    What an amazing knife. That pattern is just beautiful. Such a great show of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This goes to show people why Damascus is so expensive to buy, it's the amount of both time and effort that go into making it. The beauty of the pattern is the pay off. Well done and well made.

    i think its disgusting how there is no pride of work in most of the 'crafts' ppl still out there. thats what makes this so refreshing. thank you Manuel. once you learn how to make something. the reasons and nuisances behind WHY you make it a certain way versus another. once you master form and function, some of us.. move on to beauty. i have to say, if you havent mastered that you are close. this was so amazing. i only wish the audio was better. talk to us man. we definitely want to hear what it is you have to say. im new to your channel and will be watching more but if you could do a vid talking just about Damascus patterns and how you make each one... thatd be great

      Beautiful! Anyone who considers Damascus steel overkill really has missed the point. Alchemy, passion and beauty combined. I once owned a shotgun with Damascus steel barrels and it was a thing of beauty.

    What a total boatload of work! But the final results were so worth it. It does my heart good to see craftsmanship on this high a level. Mr. Quiroga, you are one of my new heroes. I even liked the music you chose for the video, and I normally do not care for music in instructional videos. Really, I am just so impressed. Thank you!

      But this imitation can not go beyond a visual similarity.
      It is not "damascus" steel. It is not "damascus" to glue and pattern two steel types.
      The raw material of the "Damascus" steel is a kind of steel called "Wootz" steel.
      The "Wootz" steel is produced from a different iron ore.
      "Wootz" is a special type of steel produced in India-Sri Lanka. Please investigate.

    Skip ahead to 21:23 to see a work of art made by a craftsman.
    Made from a single piece of steel, I'm impressed. I see so many "Damascus" pieces made with two kinds of steel welded together. It was refreshing to see a man actually making a true Damascus blade, that is making a blade in the old Damascus technique.

      But I think you missed 1:35 when I showed the billet made from L6 and 5160 steels.

    Fantastic work, I am very impressed with the machinery you have. I love burning metal myself.
    I am curious why you did not saw that beautiful billet in half, length wise, to create 2 blades? It appeared to have the thickness to do that.
    Great work, keep it up!

    • @mrmanuqg
      @mrmanuqg  10 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Thanks man!
      To your question: the pattern wouldn't be even if I cut it lenghwise. Twisted patterns are all about even simetry on grinding of both sides. And the true beauty is deep inside, thats why its left SO thick after forging.

    • @BigJohn651
      @BigJohn651 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Instead of putting a handle on it, leaving some material to shape the handle out of would have been a great. Just leave the handle are with a rougher finish for gripping before the acid etching to bring out the pattern.

    Excellent work, would love to see a handle and sheath with it. The standout feature to me was the consistent spacing from the edge to the pattern overlap. Excellent.
