10:5:1 compression pistons and 585 cam will make 15 more hp for less then half the cost.

The S&S big bore kit will bring the engine to 110 cu inch at 10.5:1 and I think it's 565 cams or 585, not sure. Anyway, S&S claims you should expect 100 hp and about 120 ft-lb torque. I'm debating doing that kit but the more I research the more expensive the whole thing is getting, lol

This 103 to 110 upgrade seems to be a nice upgrade. What I am wondering though is with all of these upgrades, why was the stock cam plate and oil pump reused? I don't think I would enjoy these upgrades with the uncertainty of a possible oil issue in the future.

After owning an 88,96, and now a 107 M8 I have grown to learn that Harly Davidson motorcycles are overly labor-intensive motorcycles. It's always something with them to the point even mechanics I know who work on them say the same thing. My wife has a 2015 Honda Goldwing and nothing compares to the smooth highway ride, and changing the oil is so dam easy with one hole to fill and one hole to drain. All I am saying is if Harley doesn't step up their game I am going to get a Liquid cooled bagger next go around.

    • @edwardfaris8516

Agreed..the HD is a novelty.. The goldwing is a real touring m/c..

You should just sell it and get what you like.... I have two 1200 sportys and two 2016 dynas and never had one issue, just change oil and gas. My original 2000 sportster starts up and goes like day one, its now 21yrs later! still running the same drive belt too!

LOL I wonder what “perfect” cars you own? Some if you get all stressed out chasing the Harley Marketing Machine and the “need” for all these upgrades. My 2016 FLTRU runs well enough.. no issues. But I ain’t chasing the BS

    • @chevyon37s
      @chevyon37s 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Labor intensive?? Harleys are some of the most simple to work on vehicles on the road. You don’t have to pull off a bunch of bs to do one thing or simple maintenance... like with a sport bike you’re going to be pulling off cowlings to do a simple oil change. I pull off no body work to change the oil on my Harley. Maybe you meant maintenance intensive since they have three separate fluids to change... which two of the fluid you don’t even change as often as the engine oil. Oh yea and don’t forget you’ll have to change that final drive gear oil on the goldwing for the shaft drive too... and engine coolant, and so on. It’s a wash.
If you like the goldwing more than you like Harley touring bikes, great! The goldwing is a solid touring platform. But it’s not for everyone, so no need to try and justify it by saying it’s less labor intensive. And if it were truly a better bike for more people, their sales would reflect that. And what the Harley touring frame outsells the goldwing 5:1? 10:1? And I can tell you for 99% of motorcycle owners maintenance isn’t stopping them from owning a bike.

I remember huge job shimming Kawasaki valve lash, 2,4,6 carburetors, low resale value, say what you will about Harley they build what their customers want, and everybody has tried to get a piece of that with their Harley clones,
I00 plus years of continuous operations lots of manufacturers have come and gone, seems the Harley affection-ado, has some sort nostalgic obsession that four-cylinder water cooled does not satisfy.

big bore kit isn't the best bang in my book, I watch these videos and don't understand the low numbers. Harleys are underrated in air flow for their heads. do a tuner, cams, head work, bump the compression on that 103 slightly, it's still reliable, breaths and flows as needed and you should be right at 100 horse or over, seen it done, doing it on my 103, and have done it with other 88 inch builds.. fuel and air flow, big cubic inches are heat pumps. a motor is still restricted.. it's like covering your mouth and breathing, vs breathing harder, your still not gonna get air and breath until you get the proper air flow

    Trevor great video!
Couple questions and please forgive me for I know nothing about motor builds
    1. I bought a 2016 SG. That from birth was a 103 the previous owner built it up after. Long story short, a valve spring snapped shortly after I bought it. ( just my luck) so I decided to do the 110 stage 4 tire shredder. ( which I think that is this rebuild you are doing right?)
My lower end is welded and balanced by dark horse I have an S&S cam plate and oil pump with the same cams S&S 585 with big radius pipes. With the licensed power vision tune. My final #’s as it sits are 105 hp and 127 fpt. So just a bit north of this rebuild.
So my next question is, are my #’s a little north of this bile because my lower end?
    3. What's your thoughts on going to a 2 onto 1 for more gaine’s over the big radius? I'm getting mixed reviews by different tech’s

I don't think this is the 110 tire shredder kit cause I have it on my 2011 dyna street bob and it's close to your power output (106hp/122tq) You'll get more out of a 2 into1 exhaust, mine is V&h big radius 2 to 2 but I really like how they look!!!

If you want more torque a d&d fat cat 2-1 is your best bet don't go to 2-2 because it's just a waste of money because you lose power with a 2-2

Why invest all that money for just 7 extra cubes? Great video though.

Because a 110” kit is the biggest big bore kit you can put on a factory 103” case without boring the case to accept larger cylinder spigots. Just like guys have been boring Chevy 350’s out to 355’s forever. And over a bone stock 103” twin cam there are 50% gains in Hp/Tq with this kit.
Also if you look around, install it yourself you can get a little better gains using non Harley parts and come out at 1/3 the cost.

This is a twin cam engine, not a Milwaukee 8. The 114” kit/ engines is for Milwaukee 8.

I'v never understood WHY, they want more h.p than the factory gives them. There is no Warranty, the work differently shortens the engine life, plays hell with resale, and basically if there is a accident, could be held liable, if the bike is beyond the capacity of the rider.

Hi Larry, thanks for the comment. For these kits, there is a factory warranty. Also, the HD Extended Service Plan often goes over the top of them. As for engine life, we see a lot of longevity out of these kits. It's when you alter the kit that you run into longevity issues. Resale value is not impacted in our region of New England. In fact, lots of customers seek out bikes with performance. Liability concerns, ask your local lawyer, we don't opine on that.

😂 a 103” with a set of aftermarket cams can beat up on an indian tHuNdUr StRoKe 111, at least my cammed 103 makes more hp and Tq than an indian 111 with intake/exhaust/ tune.
This 110” build should’ve made a lot more. My 103 is 91hp/107tq. Which is 1 MORE hp and only 3ft/lb less than the 110” build featured in this video. Should’ve made over 105hp and 120tq, which is what most other 110” kits make. Which funny enough is right there with the 116” indian kit.
