    People need to remember:
    1 military surplus means its trash the gov can no longer afford to maintain.
    2 something is only worth what others are willing to pay.

    Yeah; just got a humvee for 11,200; felt like I overpaid and not sure what to do. 1123 2 door truck has a soft top. At first I felt like I got a deal because of these crazy high bids people are doing. Now I'm not sure after the bidding is over.

      These of course were extreme examples but 11.2k in today's market for a fully functioning m1132 with some minor issues is a great deal. 15k is more of the norm now and I got mine for 10.2k back in 2019 but those were different times.

    Won a m1123 out of yermo for 15k back in November. Great shape, runs, no blow by or leaks. Hunting down parts during the waiting process to convert to 4 man but everything is so expensive. People want 700 bucks for a c pillar it’s crazy.

      Humvee parts and aftermarket is borderline robbery. There are just a few sellers who have totally cornered the market and they know it. Getting into the Jeep world for me was a shocking experience because I was finding the same stuff, with twice the quality, for a 10th of the price.

    I would Never rely on a Ford truck to start every time, lol Also there are all the computers on newer vehicles. In the near future ,all new cars/trucks will require Mandatory annual visits to the dealership for software flashes or the car/truck will ,Not pass emition test. And of course there will be a fee. This was first considered 10 years ago.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've driven just about every American brand and found them all pretty much equal.
      GM, Ford, Dodge... they all have their good models and bad models in my opinion.
      Regarding mandatory ECU flashes, I wouldn't be surprised but I've been hearing this since I was in diapers. I think it will get shot down by nearly every state in the US almost instantly if it ever gains ground to begin with.... emphasis on "nearly".
      For example, most rural counties in my state don't even require emissions tests at all and it's been this way since the Model T.

      @Kevin24Seven  ปีที่แล้ว

      This absolutely will be true EVENTUALLY. However, people have been saying this for 10 years now and the only prices that seem to be going up are GovPlanet auction prices. There was a time when I would recommend you buy straight from GovPlanet but now it's often cheaper and easier to just buy from the private market now. I think enough people have found out about GP and this drives auction prices up and at the same time floods the private market with Humvees and drives private prices down.

    Most of the people buying these probably don’t know anything about them or how to work on them. Just buying them for the cool factor. But I mean if they got that money to buy one they probably got the money to pay someone to fix all the issues that it’s going to have. And they will have issues.

    I told you man. Those things are getting outrageous and its only getting worse. If I were you id hit Craigslist. No waiting, often titled already, and often worked on enough to be in decent shape. I got my m998 with 4 hard X doors, 4 black rhino wheels and tires plus along with the run flats, led lights all around and it was in fantastic shape for $19K.
    Hell the one im looking at now is an m1123 that was dry stored in Barstow for 18 years and im going to get it for $17K. M1123s have the 12k half shafts, 12” brakes and are ctis ready and you can get them without the ECV front end so you wont look like a kook. People see that ECV front end and are willing to pay through the nose because they think newer=better.

      Hey Rusty, the last Humvee I had was an M1123 so I definitely know all about that man. I'm hoping to scoop up another m1123 in good shape for a little under 12k. Of course I will need to do much more work with mine than you would with yours, but its good content for the channel regardless. I think you will really like the m1123 over the 998, having overdrive is a game changer.

    Hi Kevin, How do you add air conditioning to one of these vehicles? Do I need to go to a Humvee mechanic or a GM dealer? Who would know how to work on one of these?

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a couple options, one is the red dot AC system that was fit to these Humvees in the field. It can be purchased used on eBay but is expensive. Another is to buy a 3rd party system which can also be expensive. Whether or not you need to go to a mechanic depends on your skill level. A GM dealer probably won't touch it but potentially a local mechanic could do it for you.

      It's amazing that anyone is cross shopping these with civilian 4x4s. I like them purely for the novelty and the off-road capability is actually pretty impressive (although not better than a moderately built Jeep or Bronco because of how easy they high center.). I think the drivetrain is way overbuilt also which is always good, but the fact you can't put it in 2wd is a bummer. Pros and cons, the biggest con is what you mentioned... the overall quality is terrible on basically anything other than the drive train in my limited experience.
