  • A Polish mountaineer, Pawel Tomasz Kopec, climbed Nanga Parbat on July 2, 2023. It was his second 8000-meter mountain. Previously, he had summited Manaslu in 2019. Tomasz Kopec was part of a seven-members Polish Expedition. Tomasz Kopec, and two of his fellow climbers, Piotr Krzyowski, and Waldemar Kowalewski reached the summit quite late in the afternoon. All climbed independently and without supplementary oxygen. High winds and rain were reported at the summit.
On the descent, at an altitude of about 7,300 meters, Kopec began to feel more and more tired and dehydrated. He began to lose strength rapidly. Fatigue and dehydration had greatly weakened him.
He suffered breathing problems while descending the mountain in harsh weather conditions. He was severely exhausted, and eventually died of cardiac arrest in the morning near Camp 4 at an altitude of about 7,000 meters.
    This is his story.

Very sad - RIP Tomasz. Nanga Parbat is clearly a dangerously difficult mountain.

With all these stories, and the high odds of dying (1 in 5!)... I'm starting to think that mountaineering and especially trying to climb these highest of mountains is a form of suicide. These mountains are not being "conquered"... if anything, the climbers are at great risk of being conquered themselves. .. and being vanquished.
If people die up there, I'm unable to understand why anyone would want to remove the bodies. All that does is endanger more lives.

Thank you for your video which shows us just how dangerous the high altitude is to all climbers. Does this mean that with each bad reaction to low oxygen levels, the next experience requires less to trigger it. Does this affect occur even over a period of years.😢😢😢
