Wow I can tell you did your research!! That was so informative. I seriously love the mix of history and makeup -- thank you for the video!! I hope the series can continue ❤
Great video! With the female name Francoise, you pronounce the s at the end like z - fran-SWAHZ. I took French for 4 years, and it is difficult, half the letters aren't pronounced. 😂 You did a great job!🩷🩷🩷
Lol, I agree. I don't know how accurate it is, but I had once heard that even the natives have a hard time learning to spell as children because of that.
I didn't expect this! Well done! Suuper interesting & informative! Yes Max factor next, I know nothing about them! Was just thinking about them the other actually, those comercials they used to have ("make up by make up artists" with that accent) and how nobody uses their products anymore. I've actually never tried anything from them :O
Thank you so much!! And unfortunately I’ve never tried anything from them either but he definitely had a huge influence on modern day makeup. I have a book somewhere I read years ago I need to pull back out and reread.
I am watching this a second time because I love it so much. Please keep doing these! It might take a little while, but I feel like these videos could really take off. They are succinct, informative, and entertaining.
Thank you! You’re so kind to leave such an encouraging comment. I was a little disappointed this video isn’t doing super well analytically compared to my other content but I’m not going to give up ❤️❤️
@@AmyLovesMakeup I had a feeling you might be a little bummed because it obviously took a ton of time to research and put together. I just can't imagine that it wouldn't catch on if you keep making videos like this, though. You are really onto something. It is not too long, but still detailed and I love how you subtly comment on the characters of the people involved without overdoing it.
Coco Chanel or Max Factor are interesting. But I’ll watch whoever you decide to do next, even the modern ones. Fun fact about European brands that were already established around the time nazis and fascists were in power - they collaborated with them and that’s probably the only reason why they are still around. Like there is Hugo Boss nazi uniform in my local WW II museum and infamous photo of failed Austrian painter in Mercedes-Benz. Few of those brands even nowadays refuse to acknowledge their past which is so messed up (mostly banks and insurence companies). Thanks for the video❤
This was so interesting. Would love to see a video on Max Factor. I wonder whether people know about them/ can buy them in the US; in Germany you could still find the brand in all drugstores about 5 years ago, but I haven´t seen their products in a while at the stores
Absolutely loved this video, so fun to see my love of both makeup and history come together! I really hope you make this into a series! Love the final look as well, gorgeous 💖
@@AmyLovesMakeup yes, but going forward. How are you going to do Max Factor? Do Clarins, Revlon and Shiseido please. Chanel is fascinating but has been covered a lot. A fragrance house might be fun as well.
Amy, I love this series! I would love to hear about Max Factor. I wore their complexion products until they stopped selling in the U.S. I loved them so much, I buy them from the U.K.! The look is beautiful! 💚💚💚💚
@@AmyLovesMakeup I think you might like PanStik. It’s a cream makeup stick with a really lovely finish. Not glowy….not matte. I wore this from ages 18 to about 28. Not sure exactly when it stopped being sold in the US. I was heartbroken. Imagine my delight when technology allowed me to purchase from other countries! I use a mixture of #25 and #12. The shade I originally wore, Truly Fair is not available. I wore Ultralucent Ultralight powder. They have liquid foundation formulas. I never tried them. One of my favorite bullet lipsticks of all time was Max Factor. It was a nude pink that stained the lips underneath.
@@leahmiranda8359Max Factor stopped being sold in the US by 2010, when it was sold to Proctor & Gamble, who own CoverGirl. The reason it’s no longer sold in North America is because of this, and it’s quite interesting…
@@xamyx725 It IS interesting. It disappeared from drugstores in Tucson well before that though. 😢. I was around 30 when I couldn’t find it anymore….and I’m 74 now!😳Who can account for its rate of disappearance in certain areas of the country over others. I’m so happy it’s available to me again online!!
Love this idea. You can branch out into other subjects as well. I love watching beauty combined with some kind of story telling. Just one thing, it's Alzheimer's not old-timers/altimers. My mom suffers from it and dementia and I've noticed some people saying it incorrectly. It's no biggie, just thought maybe you'd like to know.
i love that it's much shorter than most informative videos! I know it probably was hard to shorten it as much as you did, and that it won't be possible to do that in every video, but just so you know, I loved this format! There are a lot of commentary videos out there, but rarely do they shorten it down, and rarely do they sound as natural as you did in this video. So well done!🙌🏼 Hopping you'll do more of these, maybe to some downfall videos too, about brands that have closed down??🤔😍
I was literally going to comment Max Factor as the next suggestion!!! Yes! I’m loving this! Nerding out on the history of makeup while doing your makeup!? A great idea!!!
I really like this video! What a great idea! Also you're very good storyteller and I really enjoyed your way of telling everything! I also love that little Spanish drop you did in there! Lol! So adorable and so well done.!
Great video Amy excellent research excellent presentation! Love to hear about Too Faced ... That would be a tough one because there's a lot I'm sure LOL! Definitely some stuff behind them 😉❤️

I'm not sure I'd call early suntan oils sunscreen. Even as late as the 70s, they were just basting oils & only had an spf of like 6 or 8. They were more designed to enhance a tan & the look of skin than to protect your skin from UV rays. I regret the time I spent as a teen trying to tan my naturally pale/fair skin. And I still get comments to this day about how white my legs are any time I dare to show them in hot weather or how I need to get out in the sun. Can we plz stop shaming people for not being tan?
You’re correct, I just checked back and the protect was called a sun tan oil I must have misheard that. And there’s definitely no pale skin shaming on this channel lol I’m super fair 😅

The name is so common because of the Frankish origin, the name of French Kings, St Francis ( national saint ) and of course the country’s name.
