I was going to go to bed on a sad note but I just decided to go on youtube and I smiled for the first time in a while because I saw you'd posted a nice long video. Thank you, Mr Ovens, I hope you know how wholesome, real and very wonderful you are. You make everyone who watches your videos smile and you make me remember my childhood and younger adult life, when I was free to explore the wilderness as my home in the Highlands of Scotland. I miss the adventures and, maybe one day, I can get back out there. All the best to you and Finn, bud. Keep on casting!

I think my favourite part of this video is actually the fire safety aspect, so many people don’t understand how flammable things are, or how fires can spread under ground, along old roots, and the like…
I loved the joke at the start "Free Turkey if you can Outruun security" it took me a few seconds to think about it lmao Keep the guides coming! We love your work and we appreciate it so much. :) Very calming AND funny at times :)
When I was young back 🔙 n 1978. I knew a girl who got sick all over herself at a party in the woods. She passed out, but woke up in the wee hours and walked home a couple miles naked in an inverted garbage bag - tearing holes for head and arms in the corners. Impressive !
I'm so glad I found you today, thank you for making me smile. I so very much needed that. You have a fantastic sense of humor and thank you for keeping it real,. Much love to you and Finn, from South Africa
Really enjoyed this video because, as a younger person, a group of us used to camp on a regular basis and seemingly, always during rain storms. Many times we made shelters and rain gear from trash bags including coats and pants and also makeshift tarps. On several trips we made shelters for our campfires. We tried to get contractor trash bags because they were thick and almost impossible to break. I saw someone sew together heavy duty trash bags with yarn and an embroidery needle. This video brought back some wonderful memories. Looking forward to your next adventure! God bless.
Hi Greg. I'm a new subscriber, as of I think 2 days ago (7/2/2023) I live in Northern Michigan and noticed we have pretty much the same plants. What clued me in to " this guy REALLY knows this stuff" is, you mentioning plantain and chewing it for a poultice. That opened my ears to the rest of the knowledge you so generously share, with times going as they are, I sure hope others pay very close attention as well. Thank you for keeping it real and natural. I look forward to learning more from you. Thank you for giving as you do to the rest of us.
Greg put some rubbing alcohol in a little spray bottle (from the Dollar Tree) and every time any bite starts to itch - mist it and your good to go, Stops The Itch ASAP!! 👍🏽P.S. Coffee & Black Tea are “warming” drinks if your too hot go for “Cooling” plants look like Mint, ect… (Love Finn!)
Many years ago I was staying on the street and we used black bags to protect the cardboard boxes so they wouldn't get wet in the rain. or as sleeping bags then you fill them with clothes, newspaper or paper and voila, you had your hamster burrow, in the rain it is very useful to have bags, you are great! Thank you for sharing this!!
Few years back me and a friend got trapped in a nasty thunderstorm in Italy. We used trash bags in the same fashion and it saved us from two days continuing rain on a mountain. Great tutorial Greg!
Good to see you back from the vicious bed bug attack. Your videos rock and are very calming with lots of great content. Thanks for putting yourself out there and teaching us. ✌️
The plant in the creek scene is sweet woodruff. It grows well in my area and naturalizes easily. I love watching your videos and enjoy your knowledge shared.
Cities are far more inhospitable and treacherous than any wilderness setting. Greg is truly among the bravest of men for going into "civilization", such a wicked and evil place to be.

PLease do not compare Clay Hayes to this bumbling fool. Clay is a professional and is far more responsable that Greg. Greg does not plan his adventures properly, he does not practice any kind of safety rules. Greg is a nice guy with a good knowledge of plants and some survival skills. At best he is entertainment. Eventualy he will get hurt or cause someone else to get hurt or worse. He just doen't think. How He got on Alone places the creibility of the show in serious question. Greg is not even in the same league as Clay Hayes.
I’m a really lonley guy and seeing the bong between you and Finn has made me get a dog and he’s my best friends I couldn’t live without my buddy the companionship of the fur humans are unreal we don’t deserve animals thanks for the uploads I’ve learned a lot from you over the years
22:00 Nice addition to the video! I liked that! A while back I had a camp in the woods, I went to every day. Eventually a Ruffed Grouse showed up and stuck around the area. She wasn't too friendly at the start, but she got to be kind of like a buddy after a bit. I liked having her escort out when I'd leave to home and even sometimes, she was at the start of the trail to escort me in to the camp. She was there a couple of seasons, then disappeared. I figured she was that age to die, as they don't live long like humans or even dogs/cats.
Awesome story! These birds are so cool to see when you’re out in the woods. I can’t go out any more like that because of my heart, but it’s sure nice to see someone else doing it. Really love this man’s heart and blessings to you as well!
In the comment section there's plenty of depressed and have plenty of problems and seem to enjoy just seeing you share your passion which is honestly great, i love your videos, being very calm and teaching us the art of surviving out in the wild with a few items on hand which makes it actually interesting. Thanks for doing what you love the most Gregory we love you!!!!!!!
Absolutely love this kind of education, some people think it's useless and we won't need it but I ALWAYS go by the rule "it's better to know what to do and not need to do it rather than needing and not able to do it" , also that must be one of the happiest dogs on earth, outside as often as he is. Great upload thx for the information 👍
Awesome! I'm waiting to watch with my wife in the morning with a strong cup of coffee, maybe not quite Greg ovens strong though!. Glad to see you're back in action so quick after those bed bugs. Thanks Greg!
OMG My sides and cheeks hurt! Greg is so chill, super easy just kicking back in the woods of BC. BEAUTIFUL Trees sky moss n grass all around. Sweet poochie seemed to listen & behave decently. I should have known we were headed right into downtown squirrelly when the coffee pot/cup was the dogfood can from last night. I didn't realize the fashion bonanza available in a box of lawn n leaf bags!
I've used the trash bag rain poncho many times. I use the 55 gallon construction garbage bags, I usually just make a slit in the bottom of the bag. Make it small so that it has to stretch to fit around your face. About 20 inches down I make slits for my arms. But if the rain really starts to come down, I pulled the trash bag up over my head, Till only my face remains clear of the bag. Likewise pulling in my arms, They stay dry, And an amazing amount of heat actually builds up inside the trash bag. The elimination of air flow allows it insulative properties of its own. Also, Much like you made your tarp, I have made a sleeping bag! Slice completely across the bottom of one bag, And tape it to the top of another. Make 2 of these. Put one inside the other and fill in between. Grass is usually abundant and makes a good filler. It's comfortable, warm, And lasts a couple days before you have to add more grass to keep it warm inside.
Greg... You're like father that I never had lol... For real, very big knowledge and experience abt Bushcraft and survival, I learned a lot from you... Always waiting for new videos... Keep it going please💪☺️
Its not your fault. I personally would share the name of the hotel because other's don't need to pay for that . What are the chances eh? Your voice is so calming Greg.
Awwwwww. Imagine how much safer you feel in the bush with Finn. I often fly fish rivers in AB with and without my dog and I must say I’d rather him by my side.
I always carry in the woods. My dog is my warning and a deterrent, if my dog can't scare it away I'd rather not put her in harms way, and bullets are cheaper then vet bills. Plus if I see a game bird I can get dinner.
Mr. Ovens, thank you for taking the time to make these videos and posting them. I am going through a really hard time in life right now and I just found your channel today. It makes me feel happy, you remind me of like a combination of my dad and my uncle lol. Anyways, thank you and god bless you
Mr. Ovens and fin you are the most favorite humans and dog to watch . Thank you for sharing your life stories. You n fin are old old friends it a beautiful thing to see. Thank you we are going fishing because of you n fin. 'Happy Fishin' 🦈
Excellent as usual Gregg. For the hood fastener, you could twist and secure the duct tape to make a loop on one side, then secure another piece of twisted tape to a small stick on the other side, to give a simple and secure toggle and loop fastener
Thanks for consistently uploading every friday, I really look forward to your videos. I also really enjoy watching you and your inventions thanks for keeping me entertained. Much appreciated
Your garbage bag suit brought me flashbacks of many moons ago when I was a wrestling cheerleader. 🎉🎉The wrestlers that needed to cut weight before a match would wear them and jog around the halls and sit in the school boiler room, sweating away the pounds! 🤢 I like your application a lot better! Just thought I’d let you know I just stumbled across your site tonight and you have a new subscriber today! I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying it! You are a good soul! Thanks for sharing the serenity with all of us! Stay safe, and stay out of those motels they’re not good for your health. Oh, and throw Fin the stick once from me!
Thanks for sharing these ideas. It could save a life and potentially make for a better bush experience. It can take several days to get out when you go down in the Rockies. I'd like to see some dumpster diving. The shoestring hobo showed how useful carpet store dumpsters are. The pad and polyfilm is used to create a human burrito.
When I was little and we got some tasty fish to eat, my dad always gave me his fish's cheeks to eat as well, so I had more of them. Happy to see you like them just as much!
I love your videos. I can live vicariously through your adventures. I'm 80. Had my adventures years ago. And survived being somewhat stupid at times. Besides, your voice is one octave above Sam Elliott's. You're easy to listen to.
Must say that you make some of my favorite videos. Your tone of voice and the way you narrate your stories really brighten my day. And I’ve only stayed at a cheap motel once in my life. Never again.
Fin is such a beautiful dog. He sure loves you. I wish I could go camping in those beautiful spots you find. I don't have an issue camping alone either. Unfortunately I'm unable to drive because of my eyesight. See you guys next time!
Love the rambles Steve! Your are stating facts! If people can't handle the truth and want to lash out, they are not capable of handling the subject we currently discuss here. Love the Bobby short reads! Especially the first nations. They hold the key to the knowledge of these beings. Pray the criminals are held accountable daily! God Bless us all, and i pray for peace daily. East Tennessee, in the Rtok!
Greg, would you consider doing more catch and cook videos? I know you are a survival video type of guy but us fans would love watching you do fish catch and cooks and explore more mountain lakes!

What an absolute plaeasure seeing nature and someone who appreciates its beauty as well as respects it…you have much to teach and I’m enjoying every moment…seems all of our National areas here locally are closed off ..heartbreaking…stay safe stay blessed love your perfect beautiful companion..
Lol Finn has such a nice personality. He means well, that’s for sure. 🤣 I laugh every time he gets in the way and clumsily navigates around the camera.
Hi Greg, good to see you up and about, those bloody bed bugs really did a number on you. I am thrilled to see so many eatable wild berries growing in the wilds of Canada.
Hey Mr. Ovens love your show, you've taught me alot, but on the bedbugs they make a topical creme at the pharmacy not too expensive it helps with the places it leaves, I used to be maintenance at 2 hotels and know your pain.
I’m always the guy who brings the emergency stuffs on any camping/hiking event. I’ve never once thought of bringing a box of trash bags on the hikes . I feel silly for never thinking of it. Game changer.
Not only is that jacket made of garbage bags a handy idea in an emergency situation, but it's also a mood lifter because I can't stop laughing at how goofy it looks. lol 🤣I love it, thanks for the content!
In the 70s and 80s and even early 90s black bag jumpers and plastic bag hats were very common on football terraces. Cheap and you can pop it in bin after the match
Big fan Greg... And love Finn. Looks so much like my GSD, very similar colors/markings. He passed away in March very unexpectedly. Only 2.5yrs old. Keep up the good work!
Oo was thinking since the start of this video when we would see another "extended" adventure. woohoo! As always, Fin makes me happy. Cracks me up he had the same stick in the morning. I hope you reported that nasty hotel so no one else goes through the same thing you are.
Hi Greg, hello from Burnaby BC. Big fan, thanks for the regular video's man. I've watched them all and always look forward to them. I believe the plant by the creek was " Cleavers ", correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again for getting me outdoors in spirit.
@@OvensRockyMountainBushcraft We have bedstraw down here in Oregon but it is a thinner leaved variety than what you showed. We call them cleavers, sticky willy or bedstraw. It is in the coffee family and the seeds may be roasted and grinded to brew a caffeinated beverage. I am fairly sure the variety you have contains caffeine as well.
You impress me incredibly with sleeping on the ground. I don’t think I could do it. Too afraid of creepy crawlies walking on me all night. Lol. I’ve experienced bed bugs before. I know your pain with that. Ugh. But isn’t anything biting you or bothering you while sleeping on the ground? As always, thx for another great vid. I continue to learn a lot from you. Watching from Ontario Canada
This dude has some real ass challenges really risking his life I like how he doesn’t try to make it this flashy spectacle either just dude tryna live in nature while respecting id have a beer with this man
Okay, the algorithm suggested this to me and oh my gosh, I am so glad. Your wit and video editing is HILARIOUS !! Love the information, totally subbed. Keep on keepin' on. ✨️
Greg, I'm stoked for your camp, catch, and cook expedition. Is Ace your special guest?? Gonna be a seriously good time! Hey was just wondering in situations where a longer cast is needed if a slingshot would launch a round bobber, sinker, and some bait? A threaded worm or plastic might just stay on the hook with a clever Ovens delivery. Good luck on the expedition!!
Bobber lacks mass. Try firing a ping pong ball out a slingshot- it's not going far. Better off to do use a really long pole or best, a jugline with with several hooks
I’m just subscribing because I am very impressed with that head of hair you have. It’s awesome. When I am your age I can only wish to have hair like that

Had to put my old Best friend down today and this is def helping to lighten the mood a bit . Thank you
You flippin rock Greg!! I LOVED this. Please do more of these. That trout looked so delicious.
When I was little and we got some tasty fish to eat, my dad always gave me his fish's cheeks to eat as well, so I had more of them. Happy to see you like them just as much!
Greg, we love you, dude, tons of skills but also a pure humility. . BUT Fin might outshine you, brother 😂❤️
I love your videos. I can live vicariously through your adventures. I'm 80. Had my adventures years ago. And survived being somewhat stupid at times. Besides, your voice is one octave above Sam Elliott's. You're easy to listen to.
Huge fan of the longer videos like this! Good work Greg! 💪🏼🙏🏼
See you guys next time!
are you really a canadian girl???🤔🤔
I remember watching you a couple years ago. I'm surprised you're not at a million subs yet.
Thanks for another great video Greg! ✌️
Really enjoy your stuff dude. Very creative as well. Hope you keep giving us great content.
You are your dog's world Greg.
What a bond. You are a lucky man.
45 minutes in a Walmart is long enough for me. How you stayed in one for 48 hours is amazing to me.
Greg, would you consider doing more catch and cook videos? I know you are a survival video type of guy but us fans would love watching you do fish catch and cooks and explore more mountain lakes!
Sir Greg, 🤗 Thanks for an awesome time.
Be safe. Yes, you make my heart smile, 😆 also are added SunShine to my day. 🥳
(Vhalior: wishing you better days. 🙏🏻 Peace abide, divine goodness fill your days. prayer hugs.) 🌻🕊
I have just started watching but I like how he tests his followers with the plant name question and such, keeps his community involved!
Nice!! Thanks for another great video Greg!!
Thanks
"Already had plans to eat gravel with the boys" 🤣

He knows the timing when your love would be given .

Ese Goyo es un loquillo😅
This too shall pass. Gotta be careful marking yourself with the beast and all. You're still loved, and very courageous for speaking up. ❤
Love the editing and extra videos! Great show!!
Back in the day .I miss my favorite cave in high desert in south west .friends and climbing around testing out different skill sets .and forging for breakfast and dinner and so fourth .fun stuff.thanks great show it's appreciated.
Gotta love Greg!
Please don't believe any text comment you get that is not from Greg they will only steal your money or information ❣️
You're just great, Greg. More authentic than any I've seen on TH-cam. Love the channel.
Hi Greg, good to see you up and about, those bloody bed bugs really did a number on you. I am thrilled to see so many eatable wild berries growing in the wilds of Canada.
You are good hearted humble man! Love your videos! Wish you all the best and greatings from a small country Bulgaria!!
I dunno Greg, plastic bags, duct tape and a knife in my trunk are going to look pretty suspicious...... 😄
Cool ideas Greg!! Mr Glad 😅 learning so much from
You!!
Finn is a great companion!! Love your dog!! Love your easy going down to earth vibe.
Your videos really calm me down after a crazy day in the office. Thanks buddy and greetings form Germany
Hi Greg, hello from Burnaby BC. Big fan, thanks for the regular video's man. I've watched them all and always look forward to them. I believe the plant by the creek was " Cleavers ", correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again for getting me outdoors in spirit.
I believe you are correct about the plant. It is in the coffee family. You can roast and grind the seeds for making a lightly caffeinated beverage.
Yes. Fragrant Bedstraw (Galium triflorum)
Eat the quickly boiled young flower buds and stem tips and drink the tea.
Yes bedstraw
@@OvensRockyMountainBushcraft We have bedstraw down here in Oregon but it is a thinner leaved variety than what you showed. We call them cleavers, sticky willy or bedstraw. It is in the coffee family and the seeds may be roasted and grinded to brew a caffeinated beverage. I am fairly sure the variety you have contains caffeine as well.
Hey i am from maple ridge bc i was born in burnaby bc!!
My dogs love the outdoors especially the woods and I love how happy he is.
I feel you man, I got bitten up by fire ants on my ankle and I still have the scars a couple months later.
Me n my wife enjoy watching your videos. They have lots of information n lots tips.
I can’t believe Greg tapped out so soon on Alone Frozen…
Was rooting for him to win
well good, thanks for saving me the trouble of watching it.
He's old and that season has some of the worst conditions ever.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful adventure!
The plants, animals, lakes, creeks and great outdoors is always fascinating.
This dude has some real ass challenges really risking his life I like how he doesn’t try to make it this flashy spectacle either just dude tryna live in nature while respecting id have a beer with this man
That thumbnail though 😂
