    Remember the carb screws (including Harley Keihins) ARE NOT Phillips head! They are JIS heads. Bits and screwdrivers are easy to find online. JIS tips would save many mechanics pain if they knew about the difference, and the right tip can remove even moderately trashed screws.

      Thanks for the information. I was trying to remove a carburetor drain screw from my Yamaha TW200 with a regular Philip’s screwdriver, when I examined that screw head it had the dot indicating it’s a JIS screw. I badly stripped that screw so now I’m going to have to use an extractor. I just ordered a set of JIS screwdrivers on Amazon.

    Great as always Sir.. I'm going to watch your VTX carb/jet cleaning vid as I do my first removal of my 1300R carb since I bought the bike.. Idles ok when 1st starting up and reducing the choke but after about a mile when I come to a stop the idle has dropped so low it shuts the bike off.. I have to crank it and turn the idle screw up to maintain a stop light idle without revving the engine.. I hope the idle jet being dirty is the cause.. wish me luck!

      Hello Sir.. it's a 2009 with 6,650 miles.. as crazy as this sounds, it was fine before I shot some carb cleaner into the intake following your plug/air filter video ( and No I'm not blaming you :-) ) I'd been using the choke to start it.. but just read last night that it's not a true choke but just causes the unit to dump more fuel into carb for startup/warm-up.. I was thinking maybe that's throwing the air/fuel mix off for the 1st few miles? I doubt it.. but it's strange when I test drove it straight of the dealer's floor (cold start) bought it the next day (cold start) road it 50 miles home, next day cold start ride.. no issues whatsoever.. but, after I bought new plugs ( gapped them at .035 ) and a new air filter ( shot a little carb cleaner in just like you did ) the loss of idle speed after 1st mile of riding and coming to a stop at a light just causes it to react like I'd turned down the idle by adjusting the nut.

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Go over what you have done....You will find the problem...VTX are great bikes check plug wire connection...If it ran... it will not be the carb..You did not touch the carb....You will fix it. put old plugs back in. .Let me know what it was.

    • @ninerwill9970
      @ninerwill9970 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You were correct.. I took your advice and did not touch the carb.. since the only other thing I did was plugs and air filter, I cleaned and re-gapped the plugs to .032.. and will NEVER touch the choke again.. re-packed my Vance & Hines Slash-Cuts with a 10x10 inch piece of fiberglass.. and she's all well and sounding Vicious.. :-) Thanks for steering me away from the carb for now.. I'll ride the summer out and pull all jets for cleaning next winter should have about 8K miles by then.. Thank Again for your support! P.S. you should do a Coolant Replacement Video.. Ride Safe.. and I'll continue to watch your Excellent Vids.. :-)
