Congrats on the success so far and the books came back as they should have! I wonder about a lot of things you discuss (like returning damaged books to cgc) so I really appreciate all your videos!
Given how much flak CCS gets in YT comments and FB groups, it's pretty astonishing that they were able to resuscitate 3/3 of your books to 9.8! Must have had their senior varsity work on them. Anyway congrats, glad it worked out for you. Also excited to hear about the course you are developing, and would love to participate in the beta test!
I’m glad it worked out for you Jim. From Canada, I’m still afraid to ship my books down knowing how careless shipping companies can be. Still just cleaning and pressing for now. Thanks for sharing!
I think a lot of people are where you are at in the regard. My course take all the info I've absorbed since I started and the goal is to and break it down into the simplest method possible.. but the main reason is the provide the "secret sauce" that hopefully leads to me having possibly a bit more success than others do on average. I've tried and errored a LOT over the past 2 years and hopefully my pain/mistakes leads to people not having to go through all that hassle and inefficiency.
Happy you got the 9.8s. Looking forward to the courses learned so much from you page already. Started collecting this may so 2 months in so far. Just bought a press and waiting to get my aluminum sheets and other tools before I begin.
Jim, I'm very glad you retained the 9.8 on those books. I'm extremely excited about your course. I haven't bought my press yet, but I will be purchasing the items from your list. I need to watch your course first.
I had fedex play basketball with one of my previous submissions. I had two 9.8 books have bottom corners crunched pretty bad so crossing fingers they come back (tomorrow) still 9.8!
Great congrats on your upcoming course. Could you suggest a worth it CGC submission for international collectors? The price+shipping is just too expensive
I'm glad it worked out for you. I would pay for your courses!! You've already made me a far better slabber. It's the patience you have shown that has helped me the most as I used to send many books into CGC that would have received a better grade if I just spent a little more time on them. I just had a rare cracked slab in shipping, sent in 24 books. It was absolutely blown up. It had plastic pieces cracked off. Cracked through the middle. The book seems to be OK. The box didn't have any sign of damage which was bizarre. I paid about $18 for the Spider-Man 1 news McFarlane, 9.6. I'm debating on sending it back. I may have not gotten the bag crease out all the way which would have made it a 9.8..
That waviness you mentioned - I've noticed that on a lot of books I've had pressed. Is there a way to prevent that at all, or does that just come with the territory?
I don't think it's always the pressing that causes it. I get back prescreens where most of the slabbed books have waviness and the raw rejects have 0 waves. It's baffling. Maybe the florida humidity hits the book at some point right before encapsulation? Probably not it.. but one guess is as good as another. But inn general, minimal humidity, light pressure, and lower than typical heat will help with the waviness and reversion issues.
I bought a 9.8 Batman: Long Halloween #1 that had a cracked slab. I resubmitted to CGC and a grade was not updated before shipment. Needless to say I was a nervous Nelly from the time the book shipped to the time it arrived on my doorstep. I don’t know why they don’t update the grade on re submissions and shipping errors.
I don't know if you mentioned charging for this course but if nothing else you should consider asking people to become members of the channel. That seems very time consuming and I bet people would consider a fee to watch these courses.
I haven't decided on a price structure, but it'll be a ton of value given for a reasonable price. If enough people sign up, maybe I can spend more time creating content and helping others improve their collections and less grinding the buying/selling game. That's the goal anyway :)
@@ImproveCollectingComics Gotcha. I’m glad they all retained the grade. Although, I am starting to wonder if CGC just had them pressed and re-holdered without even bothering to re-grade them - and/or if they re-used the same labels.
Shipping damage is one thing but if you have ever got the Fed Ex sticker that says they require a signature and you can pick your package up miles away, you are likely to request your package be sent by someone else. Sell your course, I’ll buy it. The future of comics is probably pretty bright , in my opinion, the reason is a little convoluted but this is how I see it ; the pandemic was a pretty big case study in “universal income “ , the goverment literally handed out checks. We are about to enter a new age of AI, this will result in the loss of many jobs and some say we will need to go back to universal income. You could argue that the pandemic and the government mailing out checks resulted in the great comic boom of ‘21-‘22, so if AI results in more universal income, does the future look bright for comics ?
I’d be interested in a course. I’ve watched your videos and have been cleaning, pressing and submitting to CGC, but just getting started. I’ve got a decent pc and amount of books for years
I am so surprised you are able to find all of these nice newsstand copies. I assume most of these are from people's collection as no way you can get it from the comic store with the way comics are handled and stored there
Jim: “I’m creating courses”
Me: “Take my money”
LOL
Congrats on the success so far and the books came back as they should have! I wonder about a lot of things you discuss (like returning damaged books to cgc) so I really appreciate all your videos!
I would love to hear/learn what your process is for each book from start to finish. Very informational and enjoy watching/learning from your vids.
I am soooo happy you are willing to create a course, thank you!!!
Great idea re the course. Just started collecting again and appreciate your advice!
I am glad they came back 9.8 for you.
REALLY looking forward to the courses! I could use the foundational approach. Great news. Congrats on the sweet 9.8 books.
Thanks, Ben!
can't wait to watch the lessons
Looking forward to those upcoming videos. Not into this for money, just love collecting.
I'm pretty excited about the courses. Thanks!
Love the idea of a cleaning and pressing class! Good luck with it and I'll be watching out for it.
I’ll buy your course. Can’t wait.
Cool thanks!
Courses are a great idea. Giving back to the community. Excited to watch them. I’m always looking to further my education with comics.
I am totally interested in a course by you, for sure 🙌🏼 I really enjoy your success and I’d love to grow with you on this as well! 😁

Great news on the damaged comics, Jim! I'm very interested in your course. I have all the tools (including a press) but not sure where to start.

I would have an interest in your courses, sounds like a great idea!
Yes please keep us up to date on your lessons...looking forward to it...can't wait!

Awesome video jim! Looking forward to seeing the courses. Def interested
It's kinda CGC's fault. Their inner wells float around in there. And they don't pack overly well.
The same thing happened to me and they did to Care. I can’t deny that. They were very polite and help me out twice.
...that sense of relief... priceless, but then also, pricey!
Awesome new voyage with the corse,
👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽. Nerve racking. Great job..❤
That’s great news! Sign me up, I’m ready to improve my techniques.
Awesome!
Congrats, great submission !!
That’s awesome bro, glad that you retained the grades. Much success with your course! 🤜🏾🤛🏻😀
Appreciate it!!
Congrats on getting back a 9.8 for all three comics.
Glad they took care of you. Hoping they do the same for me.
I would definitely buy into the course
Thanks!
Very fortunate, keep up the good work
Very interested

That's a good idea, I'd definitely likely to learn more about options for international folks. I appreciate it!
Looking forward to the courses on pressing, cleaning and selling. Roughly how much time do you spend a week total on these things?
I do it off and on all day 6 or 7 days a week, so maybe 60-70 hours a week?
FedEx has always done well for me. And I submit a lot of books. It's the post office that damages or loses my comics often.
Same here, USPS is typically much rougher on packages, but not nearly as bad as UPS. Fedex is the best, but still not infallible.
Future student here. I've done online courses before and agree they are deceptively challenging. Fun though!
😮 I would love to be a part of your course.😊
I’m definitely interested in a course
Cool thanks!

I noticed there is a lot of movement inside the box when I get back medium or large boxes from CGC, they need to pack tighter for sure
I'm in !
Unfortunately we are forced to ship through Fedex or other and they cause the damage. Glad it worked out for you!
I'm so in for a beta!
Appreciate it!
Im down for the course

Do you think the reversion of the ticks are now being caused by the banana gate?
Not sure, very possible

Fed Ex is so unreliable. In my experience, they’re never on time and they don’t take care of your packages.
Maybe I missed it, but were these books damaged on the way *to* CGC or on the way *back* from CGC?
On the way back.. they were already graded 9.8s and retained the grade
@@ImproveCollectingComics Gotcha. I’m glad they all retained the grade. Although, I am starting to wonder if CGC just had them pressed and re-holdered without even bothering to re-grade them - and/or if they re-used the same labels.

All I need to know are the exact search perimeters and what books you are searching on Ebay. I can do all the rest ;)
I need to hire you or someone else to search for me for sure lol
Go Collect says there's only 1 Amazing Spiderman 252 9.8 in the CGC census. That's you?!
I don't think that's accurate, there's over 2000 9.8s, probably 200 or so are newsstands.. just a guess though
You can bet CCS sent those directly to Loose Larry's desk rather than have to refund you and go through the claims process with FedEx.
Maybe, but the books do look pretty perfect again at least
I’d be interested in a course. I’ve watched your videos and have been cleaning, pressing and submitting to CGC, but just getting started. I’ve got a decent pc and amount of books for years

It isn't easy to find them... I spend hours and hours searching
Whewwwwwww
annoying time waster - but it could have been worse man!
Definitely!
