Hello again, can you do a little review or talk about the focusing beam system on the YN622? I'm rather interested in this feature, but am having a hard time finding anyone talk about it. Maybe do some tests with a kit lens with 5.6 aperture in super low light and see if it can still focus, using the beam only or whatnot. Does the beam focus only work in single focus mode, or can you servo mode with it? Thank you!
556ex has TTL, high speed sync,, exposure bracketing, exposure lock, focus lock, can be a commander, both manual and auto control, rear curtain sync. the 560 is much simpler, I use mine as a manual flash speedlight setup with a simple radio popper.
Not with those triggers. If your D7000 has a commander mode, you can change the output of the flash from the camera if you use that setting, I believe. With these Yongnuo YN-622, I'm able to change the power from the camera.
I had one with me but the wind kept knocking the light stand over. I decided to just use the flash without a modifier. I don't think the results suffered so it was all good.
hello, nice tutorial, i have a canon t3i and t4 but i have set my speedlight to high speed syn so i can shoot shutter higher then 200 but when i do it wireless with my Yongnuo the shutter speed only goes to 200. so i was wondering if you had a tutorial on what setting to put it on so i can shoot higher then shutter 200 using wireless triggers. thanks
Not sure if yours works like canon version trigger st-e2 I think, sorry it's not with me. But what I like doing is shooting in aperture priority and I use exposure compensation for background and I use flash compensation from the camera. When I want to shoot wide open like f2.8 I use a neutral density filter. I am very impressed with your results in high speed sync and will give that a try!
hey! What about the Yongnuo Flashes? the YN-568 EX [170$] or the YN-560 [80$] ? i dont know whats the difference between em [ttl thingy is on th e568 i think]. But, will they match up to the oh-so-expensive official Canon\Nikon flashes? will they cover basic usage, well? p.s- @ around 3:13 - was the flash placed straight to the right side of your model? [like 90 degrees?] or was it 45 degrees to the back of her? [some flash light spilled into her cheek, so i wonder].
Quick question about using Flash Triggers, if you are using Manual on both the camera and the flash .... can you change the flash output from the camera? I'm on a Nikon D7000, SB-600, and Cowboy Studios NPT-04. Thanks and always look forward to your videos. :)
If your system is working for you, theres no need to change it. I haven't used ND filters for these situations, but I know that I lot of people do use them with great success.
I could use your help. I have the same setup. I'm having some problems with getting the flash to work in manual mode. I'll set it to manual mode, then immediately as a press the shutter halfway, it flips back to ETTL. Any advice? Thanks.
Hello, great video! I have question though. I have a Nikon D5100 and I want to buy the YN622N as tranceiver for HSS. Will this work? Because the Nikon D5100 doesn't actually support HSS. Also, do I need a HSS-flash then? Probably yes, so the Yongnuo 568EX would be a good choice? I have the Yongnuo 560 II now and I'm very happy with it but it lacks functionality like TTL, HSS and focus-assist beam. Thanks in advance!
It depends. In TTL, the camera limits the flash power; meaning you can set the flash compensation to +3, but TTL may limit you at +1.3 (for example). Once TTL "decides" the exposure is right, you can adjust all you want and it won't make a difference, again, because TTL has decided the exposure is right and adjusts your flash accordingly. Think of it as shooting in auto for your flash. In Manual (remotely triggered) you can set flash power manually to 1/1-1/128th power. Hence the name. :D
One VERY interesting question I would love to hear answered in the full Yongnuo Review would be: What's the different between the budget-friendly Yongnuo and the expensive but highly praised Pocketwizards?
Hi, am using the pop up flash in commander mode to fire off camera sb900. Does the camera totally control the flash power settings through the menu, or can the sb900 have flash power set manually? Have found that i can use pop up flash for high speed sync using commander mode, with-- set. Thank you
Hi Great Video, Just got a question I have two yongnuo 560 iii flashs and a yongnuo yn560-tx wireless flash controller which does not support high speed sync is there anyway to be able to do the same effect, I was thinking of neutral density filters would do the same for cutting the light down?
Thanks for the video, ever do a more extensive review on these? I'm trying out a set. One question, am I going to need another trigger in addition to my 2 used on a 1D Mk3 and a 580EX II to trigger my 270EX II in slave mode? I want the 580 off my camera; but would really like to use the 270 to pop as a backlight when needed! Great demonstration, can't wait to really start using these!
I'm using the on camera wireless triggering and a 430ex II. Should I get a wireless trigger still? How do you feel about ND filters for this kind of situation?
Hi , Haven't done high speed sync for a while, so have forgotten the camera menu settings on my d90. Went into the menu and set e5 FP Sync to ON..........Not working. Curtain is not opening as it should be. What am I missing? Thanks for your help. Am using an SB900 off camera with yong nuos.
Hi man! :] I got the 568EX now :] its the best Yongnuo flash now.I dont know what's focus lock [for a flash], or a commander mode [dont u mean slave+master? Yongnuo's flashes are all slaves] & also Rear curtain sync-i thought that was high speed sync,meaning- u wont see the shutter in your image. But, anyways, after all these technical questions-my most important concern is to learn how to take photos where it Wont be obvious i used a flash! I want it to be soft+subtle. unnoticed in the image!
my canon 70d won´t shot with strobist with yn622c nor flash popup. can you htell me wich i need to set up? i already in flash set up, set manual, and in 568exii i set slave, same chanel and group, the flash shot normally. but i cant change the value 1/1 to 1/128
The 560 doesn't have TTL (auto mode) or HSS (flash with shutter speeds faster than 1/200th second) so with the 560 II I can only use manual, and only do 1/200th second or slower.
ok.. so lets say I have this Transceiver and I buy a 560 EX II for $60 I connect the 622 to the 560 ex II will I be able to use the high speed sync feature?
Hey Bro! Watched this video so many times - Finally took the plunge and bought the YN622C system! Having huge issues setting them up though... All I want to do is use my 430EXII with highspeed sync! With the flash on my 5Dm2 I can push the shutter speed higher and it automatically switches to HSS. But when I attach the transceiver and use the flash off camera, the maximum shutter I can reach is 1/200. That's with HSS selected on the flash, correct group/channel etc. Any ideas? I'm ripping my hair out! Cheers from Australia!
If HSS is enabled on the FLASH and it's CONNECTED to the camera, the flash OVERRIDES the camera's settings (which is WHY you get HSS with the flash on-camera). However, it the 622 is connected to the camera, it SENDS the camera's settings to the FLASH. Solution: in the flash control menu, set the "Shutter snyc." to "Hi-speed" under the "External flash func. setting" so THAT state will be sent to the slave unit(s).
First thing first: there's no link to the outcomes in the description, where can I find it? Second: I agree it's better to use the flash on manual but I wonder, won't be a waste of time if you're using it with a softbox to open the softbox every single time to change the settings if you're working with a model and don't want them to wait or simply you're on a hurry? I may be missing something but I've been told to get a YN560iii with the RF603 trigger but does the trigger give you the ability to change the flash settings? I don't want to open the softbox, change the settings, close it and see if it's ok every single time.
Thanks for the info! In the end I went with the 568 EX II because it's HSS/TTL enabled and with the 622C trigger(non TX) that comes as a pair. I'll start shooting with a shoot-through umbrella on a stand so I don't need the display for now while I need the on camera and on flash reciever anyway so the 622C was the best choise. When I'll need the display there's the 622C-TX for that but if I were to go with the YN560 speedlite instead of the 568 the trigger you suggested is the correct one :)
+AndreCorner Hi, I have also a YN 568EX II with triggers YN622C-TX (controller) and YN622C E-TTL (transceiver)... All is set to HSS but I still cannot make it to faster than 200 speed... Did you make it work ? What shall I do ? I have a Canon 700D... Thx
+AndreCorner Actually I ended up to find out how it works. As the transceivers come in pair (YN622C E-TTL), you have to use both to work in HSS mode. One is plugged to the off-camera flash while the other is plugged between the camera and the controller YN622C TX on the camera. You will then have full access to the settings... and set the shutter speed to your wish...
may i know how to set highspeed on canon 580ex2 with connected the YN622c ii? the high speed work when connect the flash to camera but doesnt work with yn622c ii.
hi, to get a flash fire faster than 1/250, you need one that supports it right? 2nd, do you still need a transmitter that supports hi-speed sync? sorry, noob question
please reply... i am about to order these but two things bothering me a lot. 1:: what batteries these use? normal AA batteries or there are any specific batteries. 2:: i am buying them just for high speed sync.. but my flash light will be inside the big softbox and will out of sight for the transmitter.. you think it will still do high speed sync? because in your video, your flash light in not out of sight. but i think because these use radio signals so should be ok for out of sight flash lights receivers.
I find rechargeable Enegizer batteries to be the best. Your flash inside the softbox should work fine because these triggers use radio signals instead of line of sight.
Various TTL settings are just different ways of metering flash It's not something you really need to if you already know how you want the flash to affect your pictures though, just use manual flash. The high speed sync is what allows you to use a faster shutter speed while using flash, normally the faster shutter speed you can use while also using flash is anywhere from 1/200 to 1/500, with high speed sync you can go past the sync limit of your camera body.
Think of film cameras with a focal-plane shutter that scans a slit across the film. Even digital sensors do something similar - called 'rolling shutter'. Normally, the highest sync speed is maybe 1/250 second - shorter flashes would reveal the shutter 'slit'. Perversely, 'High Speed Sync' is actually a slow flash extended to 1/250 second (rather than the usual 1/1000 second), so that the subject is lit while the 'slit' traverses the sensor. Or something like that ...
Yup, true. I'm thinking of picking up another unit and a YN568 to have two flashes that can do HSS but I don't know if I'll use it all too much.
I get that too. I find that if I change the mode/power from the camera instead of the flash unit it works just find.
More of this please! I like to see how other young photographers work
Nice review. Looked like you were moving quickly and efficiently; got some nice shots.
You can use these triggers as basic triggers on the yn-560 if you want to. They also work on the yn-568 very well in all modes.
The max sync speed of the yongnuo yn-622 is 1/8000 of a second if im not mistaken.
There are Yongnuo flashes with High Speed Sync as well. I believe the YN568 has it.
wow these shots are clean
In the commander mode setting on your menu.
I could use these that way as well, but with HSS you don't need the ND filter. Thanks for watching!
Hello again, can you do a little review or talk about the focusing beam system on the YN622? I'm rather interested in this feature, but am having a hard time finding anyone talk about it. Hi! Nice video. I have a question. Why don't you use umbrellas to difuse the light of the flash?
Can you use these to high sync speed with the YN560 flash?

cool. thanks. i have a pair of 603s and they dont work with the xpro1 (even on manual) so was wondering if these would have the same issue.
You'll need a flash that is able to do high speed sync. The YN560 cannot do HSS.
hey! What about the Yongnuo Flashes?

What white balance did you use for these images? Was it custom or a preset? Thank you
is this HSS feature working with non HSS speedlight model?great tutorial :)
Thanks for the response. If I use Commander Mode, how would I go about changing the flash output?
If your system is working for you, theres no need to change it. I haven't used ND filters for these situations, but I know that I lot of people do use them with great success.
in the beginning of the video. at f1.8 the picture is very bright, so how you made it look better after that?
I could use your help. I have the same setup. I'm having some problems with getting the flash to work in manual mode. I'll set it to manual mode, then immediately as a press the shutter halfway, it flips back to ETTL. Any advice?
Thanks.
I'm not sure if you watched the whole video but the subject was not in full shade. The sun is either hitting her back or the front.
Niko when i use two YN622C triggers on my 580EXII on ETTL group a and b my pic are underexposed by 2 stops. Any idea why? with one all is perfect
I'll have that soon! Haven't used it enough to give my final thoughts though!
I see you have the Fuji XE1 as well! will the Yn622 work with the XE1?
Ever tried to use ND filters to slow down the shutter speed instead of using HSS? I'm debating on which setup is optimal and more economical.
Hello, great video! I have question though.

You clear all my doubts,i want to freeze action in daylight so i need the HSS.
In the video you were shooting flash at full power?

So wait high speed sync is only supported on canon flashes? I have yongnou speed light and one canon ... Please let me know. Awesome video as always
Can Yongnuo YN-E3-RT trigger Yongnuo 568EX II(flash)+ Yongnuo YN-622N?
Dude, do you have a blog where you put your portfolio of photos? or facebook maybe flickr 500px something like that?
What kind of flash holder do you use? I looking some cheap(ish) flash holders around $20.. Thanks...
Hi , Haven't done high speed sync for a while, so have forgotten the camera menu settings on my d90. Went into the menu and set e5 FP Sync to ON..........Not working. Curtain is not opening as it should be. What am I missing? Thanks for your help. Am using an SB900 off camera with yong nuos.
cant you lower the ambiant light till ts dark and then shoot out door creating a black background?
i wonder is the high speed sync flash will be work for every common flash?
Outdoor Flash Portraits and High Speed Sync (Yongnuo YN-622)
I'm using the 50mm 1.8 lens in this video.
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Great Video. I think i'm probably going to buy this flash What wireless trigger are you using and what lens..
nice job ! greetings from spain !
That did the trick! Thanks so much!
Very nice! Gonna try this soon :) one question tho, where are you guys located?
verynice tutorial kabayan! im a beginner and im learning a lot of your tutorial videos, keep them coming!thanks !
Hi man! :]

Is it possible to do this kind of shoot with a yongnuo 560 ii flash, or is this flash not working with fast shutter speeds? :s
Yup, that's another benefit of having high speed sync!
Do you need the YN-622 for HSS? Will a pair of rf 603 work with HSS.
my canon 70d won´t shot with strobist with yn622c nor flash popup. can you htell me wich i need to set up? i already in flash set up, set manual, and in 568exii i set slave, same chanel and group, the flash shot normally. but i cant change the value 1/1 to 1/128

Great vid mate
With these work with YN-560II and will i be able to control my off camera flash from my camera
Hello, Is high speed sync available for non-Canon cameras? Thanks. :)
ok.. so lets say I have this Transceiver and I buy a 560 EX II for $60
I connect the 622 to the 560 ex II will I be able to use the high speed sync feature?
I have Nikon D4 and D700 with Pocket Wizards. Will the PW trigger the Yongnuo flash? Thanks
@Camcrunch did work HSS in canon 600D ?
Hy, help me please ! Do you know if these are working also with Nissin di622 Mk 2? Thanks a lot !
The shutter speed was at 1/2500 for the most part and I was using auto ISO!
Excuse me sir. Are you in Savannah,GA????
Have you tested the new Yongnuo's with TTL and HSS?
Can u use these with a flash bracket instead of a trigger cord?
Hey Bro! Watched this video so many times - Finally took the plunge and bought the YN622C system! Having huge issues setting them up though... All I want to do is use my 430EXII with highspeed sync! With the flash on my 5Dm2 I can push the shutter speed higher and it automatically switches to HSS. If HSS is enabled on the FLASH and it's CONNECTED to the camera, the flash OVERRIDES the camera's settings (which is WHY you get HSS with the flash on-camera). However, it the 622 is connected to the camera, it SENDS the camera's settings to the FLASH.

when u shot this whats your ISO? with the highspeed sync settings
Dude, you're awesome!
Nice job on the video.
Thanks!
Use this trigger instead: YN560-TX - and you'll be able to control the power of the YN560III remotely...
Thx
Nop I've been off for a while and just came back home, still didn't figure it out
+AndreCorner Actually I ended up to find out how it works. As the transceivers come in pair (YN622C E-TTL), you have to use both to work in HSS mode. One is plugged to the off-camera flash while the other is plugged between the camera and the controller YN622C TX on the camera. You will then have full access to the settings... and set the shutter speed to your wish...
Really? I have RF602 triggers and they worked with the Fuji X-E1
Cool video, thanks for posting
hi nice vid!
erm the yn560 mkiii supports high speed sync right with the yn622c?
No, it does not.
Oh what would u recommend? My cousin has the canon 580ex 2 those will it work? Apart from canon which yn model would u get?
The Canon 580ex2 is what I'm using in this video. The YN568 will also work.
Cool thx man!
Do you shoot on raw? And what preset you use (when you edit) for the final output of the pictures you took?
I do! I don't believe I used a preset for these photos. I made my own adjustments using Lightroom.
so whats the ISO ? the flash power ? where all of that stuff go ?
These Trigger Will Work With Yongnuo YN-560 II Fully Manual Speedlite ... ???
I don't know hss what's it and u can show me setting shutter speed and K tempurate ok . Thank u
may i know how to set highspeed on canon 580ex2 with connected the YN622c ii? the high speed work when connect the flash to camera but doesnt work with yn622c ii.
+Jun Cheung I think you could try the cat eye broh....YN is very very manual. idk abaout YN622c ii...but in my YN560ii you set mode to S1
hi, to get a flash fire faster than 1/250, you need one that supports it right? 2nd, do you still need a transmitter that supports hi-speed sync? sorry, noob question
Yes and yes!
CamCrunch - Photography Tutorials and More! thanks for the reply man. subbed!
you can use some greyfilters, too!
It'll only work if your flash, triggers and camera support HSS
please reply... i am about to order these but two things bothering me a lot.
They use AA and because it uses a wireless signal, you'll be able to trigger eve when there are objects blocking.
I find rechargeable Enegizer batteries to be the best. Your flash inside the softbox should work fine because these triggers use radio signals instead of line of sight.
camcrunch loved video
This is a great video! Could you explain ATTL and High speed sync? I'm confused O:
If you dont have hss capabilities will good ND filter render good results?
Yup!
Will the YN-622C be compatible with the Canon 550EX Speedlites on HSS settings? I'm planning buying one for these speedlites.
I'm not certain, but I'm sure you'd be able to find the answer to that with a quick google search.
looking for full review!!!!!!
