Level up in Photography with High Speed Sync HSS | Speedlight Strobe Flash Tutorial

  • Many speedlights and flash has High Speed Sync HSS. You need this ability so you can use your flash on a tripod with a remote trigger, during the day while using your prime lens such as 85mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.4. Normally, old school flashes can only trigger off with your shutter is at 250 or below. Once you're beyond 250 shutter and with your prime lens, reached over 1000 and more, your speedlight needs to have high speed sync ability and even activate it in your camera menu to allow that to happen. This is how you can get artistic and stylish photos to add to your photography skill and business.

    I highlight recommend Godox and Flashpoint R2 speedlights over any speedlight and even over the Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fujifilm brand speedlight flashes! They are great quality, tough build, works with each other with transmitter, has HSS and nest of all, more affordable.

    Brilliant! I love the technique of getting the base exposure by using Aperture Priority. I have Godox V1c and it took me months to try and work out how to do HSS flash. I thought that the flash would only work in HSS when mounted onto the camera hotshoe, but as you say in your video-they are well designed and know when faster shutter speeds are being used, even though there are no HSS symbols visible on back of the flash. It works, my wife and I tried it at f1.4 in bright sunlight=perfect exposure. Thanks for some awesome photos too for inspiration.

    • @CameraToFreedom

      HSS will work with TTL but I wouldn’t recommend it because you won’t get the proper lighting that you’re looking for. After using all their speed lights, I like the 860 because it’s smaller. This happens to me too if I forget to turn off the modeling flash. Everyone you turn on your ad2”” and your remote, it automatically turns on the modeling flash even though your trigger has it off. So you have to manually turn off the modeling flash every time so your flash works as best as it can. With that modeling light on your flash becomes so slow to refresh within handful of flashes taken especially in the heat.

      I put in the description for V1 which is the big round head speedlight like the ad100. The first link is a softbox for a regular speedlight. Return that to Amazon and get the second link that says for v1 speedlight. It has the bigger head. I’m deleting the softbox for the regular speedlight in my description now. amzn.to/3tHhb1r

    What white balance did you set it to ?

  • @onlyfacts4me
    @onlyfacts4me 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My camera allows for a variety of sync speeds to set it at. What would be the reason to set your in-camera sync speed to anything lower than 200? If you set it to 200, then you can still shoot a slower shutter speed. So, why would you set it to say, 1/60?

    • @CameraToFreedom
      @CameraToFreedom  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason why you would bring your shutter lower to 60th is incase you want to capture more light in a dark area. Or if you want to capture some light streaks a little.

    great video. pro tip for run and gun couples shoots: min ss 1/250. f/4. auto ISO. continuous eye autofocus. Manually adjust flash power with HSS on and review shot and adjust flash power if necessary. I have Flashpoint AD200 but went with Profoto B10 [without modifier - you will need the power and easier to remove in PS] now so I can read transmitter LCD and LCD on flash in full sun and it is MORE reliable than the AD200. Why? My assistant accidentally changed the settings on the AD200 flash with his hand and we could not see-read the LCD screen on sunny day to correct the settings. horrible situation when doing formals for a wedding -- looking like a rookie! will never take godox-flashpoint for outdoor shoots. ok for studio work.

      @@CameraToFreedom my point is the AD200 is the wrong tool for outdoor wedding-family photography. the profoto b10 is the best choice since you can read the lcd in full sun. plus the ad200 misfires a ton.

    what was your shutter speed @ ?

    • @CameraToFreedom
      @CameraToFreedom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I first prioritize aperture, want blurry background then I’m at f2.8. Then I bring my ISO to 200. Then that’s what determines the shutter. If it’s bright outside then it’s high 40@ or above. Once it get darker sunset then it come downs to 100 Ro any where that gives you the proper setting. So shutter is what fluctuates but aperture and ISO is what stays still.

    HSS lowers flash output (amount of light the flash puts out by up to 6 stops), reduces battery life, increases flash recycle time, and worst of all, especially in hot weather/direct sun, more quickly overheats the flash.
    As a person that shot almost exclusively HSS for the last 5 years, it's not worth it. Just use an ND and 1/250s shutter. Only use HSS for action you need a faster shutter (sports, dance, movement), not for portrait, environment, fasion.
