Tommy Byrne returns to Mondello park at the wheel of the Ola/Navan Shopping Centre works Van Diemen and blows everyone away! He breaks first gear with a test start and Ralph Firman jumps the pitwall to see what the problem is. Ralph is removed by an official and Tommy starts the race in second gear!

Sena (or da Silva as he called himself then) had an impressive win in ff2000 at that track.
It is (or was) a particularly difficult track to learn so there was a big home advantage.

Back then it was the perfect formula Ford track.
