Just because someone plays all the time doesn’t mean they’re going to be scratch or anywhere close for that matter. Big exaggeration by George in my estimation. Of course there is more potential but basing it just on time is just not true. Zillions of guys who play almost every day at a lot of clubs who still stink.

@@nelsonjames1272 he just meant that if you play all the time and use your time well you should be scratch or better. If you play all the time and work on the wrong things you won't be. Pretty sure that's what he meant. He's wasting potential because he's not working on the right things

@@ZickDorito agreed to a certain extent but most people don’t when you look at the statistics. Most people simply do not have the talent regardless. I hope Riggs is successful but I didn’t see a lot of hope in the video. It’s pretty ingrained. It takes a lot of hard work to really see in your mind how the golf swing works and most will never get it to stick consistently. Too many variables.

@@nelsonjames1272 a large part of coaching is building the players confidence. I didn't take the statement literally. I took it as him pumping Riggs up and telling him he has potential that he himself may not even see. Believe in your player until they start to believe in themselves. I wouldn't think it would be motivating if he were like "yeah bro I can totally see you playing to a 15 handicap for the rest of your life" but that's just me.

George is the man! Riggs and I share almost identical swing issues and this video helped me tremendously. I'd been standing farther and farther from the ball, and it was only making my "humping" issues worse and worse and worsening contact. Getting my posture right (and it feels crazy close to the ball versus what I'd been doing), but sure enough I'm getting back to the ball better and making much better contact. Working on getting eyes/chest out is huge too - also a bit counterintuitive for someone that's struggled with poor contact (had been "really watching the ball"), but realizing that was just making things worse by not allowing my chest/hips to clear through impact.
I feel like every golfer can benefit from the couple of key pointers in this lesson.

One of the keys to the whole video was when he said “is that your regular grip?” There is no way he can give you a lesson and change your grip at the same time. He worked with what he had. The truth is you have a grip where your hands are fighting each other but it’s what you are used to. I would take a serious look at adjusting into a nice neutral left hand grip of 2-3 knuckles and a right hand which fits over the left thumb comfortably and the right thumb where you like it, then work on the stuff he gave you. It looks pretty clear to me from what I saw. Your present grip makes it tough to do things properly unless the angles shown were giving a distorted view of your hands for some reason. Not likely though.

Great lesson, George really knows what he's talking about. I think the main reason that Riggs isn't able to clear his body and get into a proper impact position has to do with his backswing pivot. You can see pretty clearly during the face on view around the 34:47 mark that Riggs is swaying or "bumping" (as George calls it) off of the ball and away from the target. This puts Riggs low point way behind the golf ball, his body instinctively knows that the positions have changed and that he is going to hit the ball fat, so to try and remedy that he moves hard laterally in the downswing to try and get back to the ball. Excessive lateral movement in the backswing or downswing massively restricts rotation, it's hard to rotate when your hips are swaying or thrusting and not fully underneath of you.
I think it's important to learn what a proper impact feels like and to have an idea of what you are trying to achieve when you strike the ball, but let's not put the cart before the horse. You can do impact drills until you are blue in the face, but if you don't have a proper backswing pivot you are never going to produce solid consistent impact positions. I think George would of had Riggs work more on his backswing pivot if he'd of had more time with him.
Regardless, I'm glad to see Riggs taking his game more seriously, linking up with a guy like George is going to do wonders for his swing.

Exactly. So annoying hearing this dude say he’s a 5 and in other vids I’ve heard him say that he regularly breaks 80. Most bad golfers can’t let their ego go. Most bad golfer shave strokes when asked their handicap. A good golfer is likely to be modest and add strokes to theirs.
