I've seen guys also use a tennis ball up near the top of the bit to make sure you're going straight up and not at an angle. I've mistakenly gone at an angle before and ended up going through a wall. The ball will press against the inside of the wall.

I HATE mudding. Despise it. Can't say it enough. Good video nonetheless.
Quick story - I used one of those long drill bits to run some cable through the wall in my garage. I had to punch two studs between the outlet boxes. Got through the first one, lined it up best I could into the next one, drilled the second one. Didn't see the bit. Went in the living room on the other side to the wife throwing a fit. It came out the wall right beside her head while she was sitting on the couch. She wasn't particularly happy because she had just repainted the living room.

I believe it's called a "flex auger bit."

@@FamilyFriendlyDIY Thanks for the reply. I found the auger bit, but I meant the tool you used to bend/control the direction. I got lucky and found it on Amazon - 'flex bit placement tool' by Klein tools.
