Even i(have lived in seoul for 40yrs.) didn't know that Cheongryangri 588 still exist. 6:38 actually it's more like a fortune teller's office. korean fortune telling is mostly based on folk religion which adopted some concepts of Buddhism. so if you see the flag of red and inverted hakenkreuz in the city, it's a shaman's office. although there are some fortune tellers who dressed like an authentic monk and claims that his office is a temple, we normally don't think it as a Buddhism temple.
i watched a youtube video of famous korean architect, he said that the korean traditional roof style on the top of the modern buildings is always awkward because korean traditional buildings look harmonious when they have 1:1 ratio of buildings to roofs. so if we want to put a traditional roof on a 30 floor apartment harmoniously, roof would be like 90 meters tall. i think all the metropolitan cities had no choice but look much alike due to overpopulation.

I agree about the new buildings Dan. I visited Korea twice this year and only 6 months apart. A whole beautiful neighbourhood had disappeared in that time. Apparently more boring tower blocks will replace it. The best parts of Korea and the reason I love it is all the old red bricks and old hanok buildings.
Me and my boyfriend are currently writing a story taking place in Seoul, which we got the inspiration for when we lived there for a year in 2019, that explores the difference between rich and poor. One of the two main characters is a rich, influential CEO of the biggest company in Korea (a fictional one, so not Samsung 😂) and the other main character is a gang leader who resides in what we refer to as Red. Your videos have given us sooo much to go on and theyre super educational for this specific purpose. So thank you a lot!

I have had similar experiences in Seoul and have met some really nice people. One was when I met a man who saw that I was a foreigner and wanted to share a beer with me. He commented that he wanted my stay to show Korea in the best way and to share what he loves about it. We became friends and he has visited me with his family from Korea last year. Life is full of adventures when you have an open heart and free mind. While harald baldr, bald an bankrupt, sabbatical have interesting content. I will say that Dan's adventures connect with me on a more personal and relatable level. His honest and curious nature quickly comes through to all that he meets in his videos. Keep it coming Dan. So that is where the military guys went when I got there out the back gate of yongson base when they got into country. Apparently they were on there 2nd or 3rd tour of Korea. I didn’t even learn about iataewon 6 months into mine

There is a sad history behind this brothel. In the year 2005, fire killed 5 girls in that place. After the incident, this place is banned from public. But few women are still doing business discreetly.

I was in Korea from 1960 TO 1961 with the US Army. I am surprised to see that Seoul looks the way it does in those run down areas. I may have visited some of those areas and at the time I do not remember any areas that were in such bad condition because they were lived in and taken care of by the people who loved it there. In the northeast part of the country where I was stationed, all the roads were dirt and now, modern highways are there. Some of the building and neighborhoods have not done too well as they look run down just like when I was there. I loved it in Korea and I wish I could return. I wish someone would visit all the old American military bases and see what has become of them? There is a list on line of all of them like Camp Casey and Camp Red Cloud etc.

Hello Dan. I just stumbled upon your channel because I've been watching numerous travel videos on TH-cam. I've recently contemplating taking a vacation in Asia(not yet decided). Thailand is in the lead right now but I do have as interest in Korea. Admittedly I haven't seen travel vlogs regarding Korea but I was hoping to ask you a question. Does the US dollar go as far in Korea as what in said in Korea? In other words, would I be able to get transport(taxi), food, hotel in Korea at a reasonable/cheap price? Would Jeju be a nice stay?..................I'm in total agreement regarding adding architecture.

You're right about the new buildings, they lack any soul or character about them, I'm tired of seeing old neighbourhoods with small old buildings being torn down and replaced with copy and paste apartment buildings.

That was a first. A Korean that liked Japan?? Especially more than Korea. All the Koreans i ever met, have strong dislike for Japan because of the past history. I was suprised at this guy. Seemed happy to share his Maekju.
As a Korean, to my understanding, It seems like he has gone through so many bad experiences from his own country and people that ended up his conclusions like “Koreans are bad bastards and savages” like he mentioned in this video. Which is sad because it seems he’s a good lad in nature but like i said i could barely imagine he might have gone trough so much disrespect from people in his country to the extent that he rather admire Japan and US than being proud of Korea.
He is just another brainwahed man in his 60s who voted for the second candidate 18 months ago who is now the Korean president and facing criticism for his leadership decisions. This president shares his power with his wife. The younger generation is not interested in politics and does not participate in voting, while the elderly, who are too actively involved in voting without having any work, determine the future of the younger generation through a systematic voting process, making South Korea face numerous difficulties.

Hello Dan. I just stumbled upon your channel because I've been watching numerous travel videos on TH-cam. I've recently contemplating taking a vacation in Asia(not yet decided). Thailand is in the lead right now but I do have as interest in Korea. Admittedly I haven't seen travel vlogs regarding Korea but I was hoping to ask you a question. Does the US dollar go as far in Korea as what in said in Korea? In other words, would I be able to get transport(taxi), food, hotel in Korea at a reasonable/cheap price? Would Jeju be a nice stay?..................I'm in total agreement regarding adding architecture.

The best part about this Bald and Bankrupt video is that sabattical, Max McFarlin, Daily Max, Dale Philip, Chris Lewis all make very similar cool videos that i LOVE! That was a first. A Korean that liked Japan?? Especially more than Korea. All the Koreans i ever met, have strong dislike for Japan because of the past history. I was suprised at this guy. Seemed happy to share his Maekju.

As a Korean, to my understanding, It seems like he has gone through so many bad experiences from his own country and people that ended up his conclusions like “Koreans are bad bastards and savages” like he mentioned in this video.
Which is sad because it seems he’s a good lad in nature but like i said i could barely imagine he might have gone trough so much disrespect from people in his country to the extent that he rather admire Japan and US than being proud of Korea.
He is just another brainwahed man in his 60s who voted for the second candidate 18 months ago who is now the Korean president and facing criticism for his leadership decisions. This president shares his power with his wife.
The younger generation is not interested in politics and does not participate in voting, while the elderly, who are too actively involved in voting without having any work, determine the future of the younger generation through a systematic voting process, making South Korea face numerous difficulties.
And they ones that are left are in this block apparently still paying off their bill to be free
