    There was some confusion on whether Burson was claiming this to be a 45 watt amplifier or a 45w per channel. Originally I showed the Amazon link, which matched the other selling sites I saw. However, when you look at Burson Audio Page, it calls it a 45w amplifier. Upon further inspection, they state: "Traditional Class-AB reigns supreme for speaker amps and the Funk is a true-blue 45Watts per channel Class-AB. Powered by our proprietary Max Current Power Supply." Clearly stating that they believe it to be a 45w per channel amplifier.

    They need to take that D class leap! If this thing had an Hypex or ICEpower amp i would order it. I have three AB amps i dont want anymore. The clarity and sound from a good D class kills AB amps.

      not at 540 just silly and made with box standard parts by looks in it all be it most likely to real stuff and not junk clone parts but off the shelf pc caps bs .this crap make me all most aggravated enough to make a run of good amps ASAP

    Even taking the 4 ohm reading is a little generous. That little guy might only throw 10, 12 watts into 8 ohms. That's fine for small rooms, desktops, etc., but that's going to hit its clipping point pretty fast with inefficient speakers. If someone goes into the purchase imagining they'll get 45 watts per channel, both channels driven, into 8 ohms, they're going to be disappointed.

    Great review, Your accurate power output measurements shines a light on dishonest advertising. I understand the advantaged of balanced audio input; but I have never owned any amplifier that had anything but unbalanced inputs. including any of my latest Bluetooth amplifiers I bought unless I count two that has fiber optic inputs.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good point. I think with the power output, my assumption is that it’s going to be used more than a desktop application. With that in mind, so it’s probably going to hook it up to a DAC. Most good DACs have balanced output. So for me, seeing the application that I feel is most likely to be used for, it really should have balanced inputs. But I definitely agree that it is a decision that isn’t going to bother everyone.
      I do want to talk about the power output. Their website does say 45 W amplifier. And later down the page, it says 45w pc amplifier. I was taking that to mean 45 W per channel as that’s typically how that’s stated. But after looking at it some more, I think they might mean 45 W computer amplifier. So that might just be a confusing way to state that. But either way they need to get their Amazon page fixed if that is the case.
      EDIT: Their own site does claim it to be 45 watts per channel: "Traditional Class-AB reigns supreme for speaker amps and the Funk is a true-blue 45Watts per channel Class-AB. Powered by our proprietary Max Current Power Supply," www.bursonaudio.com/products/funk/

      @@jimthvac100 Edit: I was wrong, they actually do claim 45w per channel on their own site. Under the heading funking class AB it states: "Traditional Class-AB reigns supreme for speaker amps and the Funk is a true-blue 45Watts per channel Class-AB. Powered by our proprietary Max Current Power Supply," I guess there is no denying what they state.

    Hopefully lower market segment companies follow suit. There's small AB boards on Amazon, Ali etc. for next to nothing.
    Have one with a TDA7377 chip that certainly has soundquality over cheap class D. Less so the output power but still far exceeds what I need in my livingroom.
    I'm sure at some point Chifi companies will think to put these in a nice case like they do with class D. Heat shouldn't stop them anymore because chips like the TPA3255 basically run hotter than this 7377.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, I would agree with you on the Amazon listing. But this Amazon listing is a Burson audio Amazon listing. And if it isn’t correct they should have it fixed. Their own site says claims, "Traditional Class-AB reigns supreme for speaker amps and the Funk is a true-blue 45Watts per channel Class-AB. Powered by our proprietary Max Current Power Supply." Maybe 20w is fine, but they should be honest about what it can and cannot do.
      Edit: their official page states it is supposed to be 45w per channel. "Traditional Class-AB reigns supreme for speaker amps and the Funk is a true-blue 45Watts per channel Class-AB. Powered by our proprietary Max Current Power Supply."
