Currently, I've been playing Super Mario games for 26 years. I have 107 in my current collection.
There's no reason to stop playing Mario as far as I'm concerned.
Mario is in a way is video game's Mickey Mouse, the difference between them is that Nintendo cares about their mascot and has him be what their company represent.

They all raised some pretty damn good points. Mickey mouse is Disney but you don't really ever see him anymore. But you're always going to see Mario. Even back in the early '90s there was a poll saying that more kids recognize tomorrow than Mickey. That was in the early '90s. Imagine that now

Unfortunately my voice to text likes to often make mistakes and in this case I didn't even notice. It's supposed to say Mario. How it got tomorrow instead is well I don't know. I don't know if I accidentally misspoke or if my voice to text was just being stupid again

Mario is in a weird position, as he's somehow basically the mascot of an entire genre of media. Like, who is the mascot for films as a whole, or music as a whole (I would argue it's Darth Vader and Elvis), but Mario is a far more cut and dry answer than either of those.

I think the reason Mario's outlasted the likes of Sonic and Mega Man lies in his versatility. He's not immune to being in terrible games, but unlike Sonic whom if he's in a bad game, the brand suffers until the next game, there are so many Mario games on the market at any point in time, the damage one game could inflict, never outweighs the value another game is creating in the minds of the player.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to pick up the slack for Mario Kart Tour, just for example.
The new that Super Mario 3D Land and World picked up the slack for the blandness that was New Super Mario Bros. 2 and U, for another example. But even those games in weren't bad in a vacuum.
Super Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars picked up the slack for the sports game like Mario Golf Super Rush and Mario Strikers Battle League.
If Sonic Frontiers didn't do it for you, that's all you had until Sonic Superstars.
If Crash 4: It's About Time didn't do it for you, well that's all you had, period.
A fair point. And well made. Nintendo also do a better job of separating mainline Mario games from whatever else he was being slapped onto than Sega ever have with Sonic. Like you said, even in the "bad" examples, they were hardly poor games. But not the dizzying heights of mainline Mario.

Type A whose ambitions are to do what's never been done before and change gaming as we know it
Type B whose ambitions are merely to compete with A in the market place once A's gambit succeeds.
Mario shines brightest when he spearheads a Type A game,
But gaming mascots like Sonic only exist in the first place to compete with the likes of Mario.
There was a mass extinction event for mascot platformers back when they all switched to 3D for no other reason than to compete with Super Mario 64. The only ones still with us now are the ones who survived.
As much as Nintendo remains a Type A company, in recent years they have made Type A games outside of Mario. The likes of Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Street Pass Mii Plaza, Face Raiders, AR Games, Nintendo Land, 1-2 Switch, Nintendo LABO, Ring Fit Adventure, to name the few on my mind.
On the Switch, Mario's really just competing with himself, and winning because by "himself" I mean competing with his Wii U library. Look at all the ports.
As much as Mario was a Type A on the NES, N64 and Wii, Mario runs every risk of not living up to Type A ambition if they play it safe with him on the next console.
Again, very good points. The next mainline 3D Mario game is going to be VERY interesting. Whatever it ends up being. Once you've done a world tour and gone into space it's difficult to know where he can head next. Then again, I've said that many times before and they always end up surprising me...

I'd say 2007 was when Mario peaked, we got Mario Strikers Charged, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Paper Mario. That was a point when Nintendo were at their most versatile, and most ambitious.

Unlike the other companies, Nintendo does things the old-fashioned way and focuses on their employees, branding and products rather than just maximizing quarterly profits. Their business methods may baffle us at times but they always deliver.
They also have shareholders who seem to value and understand this.
This video feels like one of those old VHS documentaries.

Yes, Pokémon sells more as a franchise, but the title of “best selling video game franchise” goes to Mario because that title is only counting the sales of the videogames themselves. Mario has sold 873 million units compared to Pokemon’s 480 million.
Pokémon has the title of best selling media franchise because that factors in everything else, such as the merch, TCG, Anime and Movies, but in terms of pure Videojuegos Mario clears, which is why he has the title

Some friendly advice: you're videos are better without the sprites. Jumping between your director-like narrator and the squeaky voices of the sprites is a jarring experience and I very nearly stopped watching entirely.
I really did enjoy your comments, but your sprites seem too childish and annoying for me to want to watch another video.
