  • Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl is one of the most distinguished and brilliant Islamic thinkers of our time, engaging Muslims and non-Muslims on numerous complex issues regarding the interpretation of the Islamic faith, law, and the Quran. In this interview, Dr. Safiyyah Ally probes him on several topics related to the Quran: how can we understand the Quran to have complete ethical coherence in its overall message? What has motivated Dr. Abou El Fadl to undertake Project Illumine: The Light of the Quran, the first direct-to-English Quran commentary (tafsir) in 40 years? In response, Dr. Abou El Fadl explains why each chapter of the Quran elevates human beings ethically beyond any specific period or historical moment. Likewise, he describes how the Prophet (peace be upon him) embodies in his legacy a living example of the content and function of God’s message as provided in the Quran. Uninterrupted and inseparable from self-conscious exegesis, the Quran’s message, described in each chapter, is brought to light with diverse explanations throughout this profound and extraordinary interview. @Unfamiliar Light from my experience, Dr Fadl brings back the spirit of Islam, his focus on the Islamic core of goodness, ethics, justice, and beauty are unparalleled when compared to rather stifling modern Muslim focus on legalistics

      @Unfamiliar Light - well he was the first person to have identified the first racist individual in history, as related in the Qur'an. That makes him one of the greatest scholars in Islamic history.

    I have had the great honour and privilege to listen to each of the Sheik’s halaqa since the beginning of this tafsir project. I honestly feel that listening to this will change your life, dispel doubts and elevate your state. I only pray that this contribution to our collective intellect is recognised and valued by the ummah as much as it deserves

    I am a keen follower of Prof Abou El Fadhl since 2017. I still remember what he said about the syariah law where he compelled all Muslims to better understand what its all about and do not think syariah law is the domain only for scholars. We need to master the syariah law as man on the steets so that we can better practise our ways as a Muslim and not be cowed by dubious scholars who misrepresent our religion just because they can mount a discourse on the syariah, and we are too scared to challenge their misrepresentations.

    Before the Abbasids, the qur-an are about the Jewish scriptures and the Injeel.
    The Shariah was the Law of Moses.
    All of these managed by the Nazarene priests.
    From the time of the Abbasids, no Nazarene priests.
    The qur-an (Q 10:94) tell the the faithful to get their doubts cleared from the Nazarene clergy.
    By removing the Nazarene clergy, the Abbasids changed the faith entirely.
    Most of the interpretations of the qur-an became meaningless. A new man-made shariah was invented.

    The professor assumes that the standard Islamic narrative is true and that it was the Quran that spearheaded the advancement of civilization.
    The honor he accords to the Quran actually belongs to the Bible, however. It was the invention of the printing press that ushered in the modern era. Public education for all was instituted so that every child could learn the Bible in his own language, opening a new world of morality, philosophy, and rational thinking on a large scale that the world had never before seen. This is why Europe became dominant while the caliphate stagnated.

    • @cocoalfaridah5831
      @cocoalfaridah5831 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is absolutely that!
      Islam will also died due the lack of Arabic speaking and understanding..
      Most people mare starting to understand that, if they don’t speak or read Arabic properly, they are paralyzed..
      Indonesia the biggest Islamic country they don’t speak or read Arabic and also
      The Arabic supremacist over the non Arabic Muslims wil keep their caliphates in the doom center.

      That's wishful thinking by a Christian. If one is to believe your theory, the bible in fact had the opposite effect. People began to see the idiocies of the bible and moved towards science and away from the dogmatic Church and Christianity. The opposite effect than you claim in fact.

    • @peterhwang352
      @peterhwang352 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shahram6869 The wishful thinking comes from you. You want to re write the Church out of the history of western civilization, but that is a 20th century development.

    • @shahram6869
      @shahram6869 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@peterhwang352 I'm not rewriting the Church out of history. I'm placing it right at the centre of Western history in that it was the cause of the enlightenment, not because it was a force for good but quite the opposite. Read any history book about the enlightenment. Or don't. Either way the plummeting of Christianity since the enlightenment is self evident.

    • @stephenconnolly1830
      @stephenconnolly1830 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@peterhwang352 - the Qur'an, as Professor Abou el-Fadl has detailed in his Project Illumine commentary, is a revolutionary text which brought enlightenment to the world as opposed to the Bible which kept it in the dark ages until the advent of the Qur'an. If you bothered to watch the Project Illumine videos you would understand why this is the case and why your comment above is simply ridiculous.

  • @peterhwang352
