One of the things I love the best about Al's playing is how he plays the time. He's a master of syncopation. You can feel the pulse...but his playing is all over the place - yet it still fits. Amazing. You typically only see really advanced percussionists doing that.
He is start playing very young. And I start play young with 10y but I never play like him . I am rhitam guitarist. I love jazz and I play in jazz trio in 80is abaut 4-5y
Tones, melody, phrasing, sustain... Rhythm, and beats.. is it just me.. or does anyone else wait with great expectations for the next note to be played.???? Can't get enough of this music,!!!! Great videos, thank you for posting!!!!
I don't care that there are a million D'meola fans; All I care is the fact there ARE millions of D'meola fans. This guy inspired me to play my Les Paul the way it was meat to be played. Thanks for the inspiration AL.
Watching Al has that affect on many musicians.. even bass, horn players, etc... I think he is shredding a PRS axe.... these are quality guitars.Fast and awesome sustain... even the ones from Korea..!
Al is just technically incredible! He is fun to watch play. Was watching Steve Vai earlier. Both of these guys are something else! If you dont get inspired to play music by watching Steve or Al? You got to be kidding me! WOW!
I agree totally but much if not all this just like John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu Orchestra goes right over their heads & the just can't grasp it. Saw Al & Chick a few times in the 70s with Return To Forever & Mahavishnu O, in 73 when Birds of Fire came out & though i am a rock player since the 60s this music and Fusion were huge inspirations ,for those that don't get it it's their loss & a huge one it is.
@hartistry1957 I feel the exact same way. The first time I say him was at one of the private night concerts at the NAMM show in Anaheim in the 80's. EVH, Satriani and George Lynch were in the audience and at one point all three of them stood up and their mouths were gaped open. I knew then I was seeing something special. Al definately inspired me to play better and with more feeling.
Favorite composition from Al Di Meola's Casino album. RTF are my favorites, as the journalists say, the jazz rock band and McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Weather Report has some good stuff. My favorite bass player is Chris Squire(rip) from the band Yes, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Jaco Pastorius. Chick Corea keyboards and Joe Zavinul(rip)
As far as the who's the best war. Paco de Lucia was a guest on Elegant Gypsy and actually played Al's arrangement. Do you really think Paco, the greatest player you will ever hear period, would be interested in jamming with Satch or Vai? While they make their guitars whistle and feedback in their amps I can see it now!lol
Saw this line up on their first or second gig together....dropping sections, missing parts....VERY rough around the edges....he was even yelling at Gumbi onstage! Looks like they got it together, tho'!! I was looking for clips from this to see if I'd buy it,,,,,.thanks for the post!
@edshift . I agree, classy guitar work on all. I consider AL Di one of the best guitarist around many similar to him. These type of musicians are serious about their art, if I may say. The " Caravaserai" album was a superb album, (Santana of course). For one album from more than 30 yrs ago, it remains a class of its own.
I love ADM but Chick's original version is much more exciting with extra pace. Have a listen to it, it's on the album "Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy". Once you've heard it, tell me you love it! ;)
Bill Connors was FAR superior in every way except over playing and show off chops , maybe my fav jazz rock player. saw that band about 9 times between 1973 and 74 - THE BEST!
of course. but also the opinion of almost every major jazz rock guitarist of that era, 1969 to 1975., many of whom were personal friends of mine, so I knew their opinions as well. LC, JM, JA, RG, DT, as well as bass players. all of them. Al is also universally considered a straight up a hole by those same people, including chick himself as well as Stanley - musicians have always tolerated conceit and arrogance among themsleves for the greater goal of creating music.
It seems to me even tough it's subjectiv Al Dimeola is the most complet guitarist, technicaly. Hee plays what he likes but actualy he could play just about anything
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are trying to say. But all of the guitarists you've named are on the "no duh" list. Of course I know who all of those guitarists you've named are. I've been listening to most of them for the better part of 30 years. Love 'em all. I'm just not a big Santana fan. Search for Steve Morse and Rik Emmett from Triumph doing an awesome acoustic version of Steve's "Up in air".
its clear he know his stuff.. but for some reason sounds like a dinner I am not hungry for.. they are all great musicians, without doubt! Endless key and scale changes miss real melody soul and real inspiration and direction for me. But hey throw rocks, just my opinion. They know their instruments like the back of their hands. I call it highly skilled noodling..
Al rocks the PRS great tone but I like the Les Pauls better in Al's hands. He must really like these guitars because he plays the quite a bit now. Very fat sound.
Why is he looking at that music stand? He would have been playing this song for 30 years by the time of this concert. It's not a difficult track - in terms of chord progressions or key or anything like that. Especially the part of the song where he keeps looking at the music. That part is basically just solo over a F#11 vamp. The band isn't playing any structured motif there. Just seems odd.
Ditched the Les Paul but came back, at times recently. PRS is fine though. The Boogies actually sounded better too. Punchier, clearer and that "singing" sustain. This was a big loss for MB.
@JosephIbrahim88 I played guitar obsessively for 10 years then picked up hand percussion in about a summer. You're so right and it works both ways. Also there is huge cross fertilisation. I'm a better guitarist for playing percussion and vice versa. Luv 'n' Peace.
Rolling Stone Mag., has never heard DiMeola. Can you believe it? They regard JH as the best guitarist , all time. What a crock. I guess that they don't even rate AL.
Al's technique is absolutely flawless.
One of the things I love the best about Al's playing is how he plays the time. He's a master of syncopation. You can feel the pulse...but his playing is all over the place - yet it still fits. Amazing. You typically only see really advanced percussionists doing that.
That's taken from latinoamerican music
Kevin Smith my understanding is that Al himself is no slouch on percussion.
Yes the syncopation is awesome! I was expecting more people dancing in the audience. Then this concert does take place in Germany. Lol
He's great. I guess 40 years of playing with Chick will give you those sort of chops!
He is start playing very young. And I start play young with 10y but I never play like him . I am rhitam guitarist. I love jazz and I play in jazz trio in 80is abaut 4-5y

Thanks for the inspiration AL.
This musical arrangement by Al is phenomenal! Wow!!!
Amazing Music + Great Performance = EXCELLENCE! These guys are phenomenal. What a superb band!!!. I've been a follower of Al since the 70's
I love this version of Senor Mouse, it's one my favourite tunes. What an amazing arrangement!
First heard DiMeola in the early 70s with Chick in Return To Forever...stunning what they created together.
Just the best guitar instrumental ever.
It was true when I first listened in 92 and it's true now.
Awesome feel.
bad ass player n his band, nice to discovered this music
Thank you orbs2009. Al Di Meola is so fast and precise. A great musician, even today.
One of my favorite Chick Corea tunes... And Al brings it! Just beautiful.
Dang. He can still shred out those fusion solos like it was the 70's.
Love this tune. Love this arrangement. Love this performance.
Just awesome! Al DiMeola and a PRS, blowin'!
Thanks for positive! For your Mouse. That music always drive me ahead!
Watching Al has that affect on many musicians.. even bass, horn players, etc...

Al Di Meola is my all time favorite.
Love you Al !!!
impresionante!!!!!! soy fanati de Al.
De la hoostia , Parmisano en las teclas. Tema que sigo escuchando y muuuuuuuuuucho!!
My Favorite composer (Chic Corea ) and Al . My God how could it get any better
@hartistry1957 I feel the exact same way. The first time I say him was at one of the private night concerts at the NAMM show in Anaheim in the 80's. My favorite face-puller at work! Great piece!
creo que nadie mas puede tocar tan rápido y tan limpio.
Wow, I think the real show here is Gumbi Ortiz... he's amazing on those congas!
I love, love, love!
And that is how it is done, ladies and gentlemen! 👌🏻🌹✌🏻
Out of this world!!! Far out!!

such a beautiful song
Al Di the master !
Yes. He is like a drumming guitarist .
Amazing. I saw him in concert with RTF three years ago. Would love to see him solo, too.
Love ya, Al!
This Jazz is chill shred. awesome
This guy is above the normal, he is a genius!
Thanks for the advice!
Saw this line up on their first or second gig together....dropping sections, missing parts....VERY rough around the edges....he was even yelling at Gumbi onstage!
Looks like they got it together, tho'!!
I was looking for clips from this to see if I'd buy it,,,,,.thanks for the post!
Love Al's performance of Chick's Senor Mouse, this version, Casino or any version.
Larry Carlton
Really good.

here we go with the dudes that have to write their personal preferences and feel superior than others
@12caanis Wow, all that ego under one roof! I've been to the Euro NAMM show, but no stars. Thanks for the comments.
Negatori , this is a beautifully crafted composition by Chick Corea, very nicely interpreted .
@r3ck0rd It must be Joel Taylor on drums... I'm sure it isn't Gary Novak.
Cool un ich war dabei :D
theres definitely no guitar in the world which is as awesome pretty as (t)his one :)
one of a kind
@kranne31 Gracias.
Yes
2020
Finally an intelligent comment!
Long live Al Di Meola, RTF, and Chick Corea!
@lookxpress I agree. Carlos Santana could'nt carry Al Di Meolas guitar case.
It seems to me even tough it's subjectiv Al Dimeola is the most complet guitarist, technicaly. Hee plays what he likes but actualy he could play just about anything
"Ahora coño " which translates to "Now goddamn it" in it's use here, it's kinda funny how he screams that in the excitement of the moment.
This guy knows how to play Jazz!
He may be a tad full of himself and rightfully so, but that is one talented Italian. He isn't the best but there is no one better.
lol 5:03 Parmisano's face! :D
Ditched the Les Paul for a Paul Reed Smith? Still brilliant.
That is actually Paul's personal guitar. Al stole it.
I actually miss the Les Paul to be honest. Sounded better to me.
PRS might be a bettet guitar; but there's something about a Les Paul. That whole rock/fusion thing.
Manufacturers pay for endorsements.
THAT GUITAR REALLY SOUNDED GREAT ,THIS IS ONE OF HIS BEST BANDS.
He loves descending scales.
@bynog101 that's a paul reed smith.
what other Chick Corea's song that he used for his albums? I've heard his version of Spain, No Mystery, and this song (Captain Señor Mouse)...
That's not music on Al's music stand, he's reading the daily newspaper.
I didnt know Jay Leno played keyboards for Di Meola, lol
Great music by great musicians is all that matters. of course this is different from RTF. So what!
ahh nice! mike pope on bass :D
u have 2 throw Prince n there.........The man is a great guitarist.
I have to agree also.
Hello, does anybody know where you can download a backing track? Thanks!
ahora conio!!! sonido latino carajo!!!
If somebody could tell me the name of this bass player that would be great. Hope somebody can tell me soon's.
No 1
rapidamente!
Great version of this composition! I think Umphrey's Mcgee has the best cover of this song... it rivals the original in my opinion.
grande classe
Genius would be an insult

is that Gary Novak, Mike Pope, and Gumbi Ortiz? and who's the pianist?
@DrFunkness Is it tony grey?
en el atril tiene todas las tablaturas el chavón!

live at the egg this week
can anybody share which guitar strings does al uses ?
I believe on electrics D'Addario EXL110 10 - 46
Thanks
Gumbi Ortiz is awesome
.......
Nobody else on Earth will get a PRS with a white back, and a 10 top.
Axe is like butter. Melty, but tasty.
🙄🥀💙🌱
it's three times, and wtf? shat?!
Is that a Schecter he's playing or Dean?
PRS
:)

@hartistry1957 fyi he is playing a Dean Hardtail Exotica just thought you should know, not disin you or your les paul
