All that with dynamics. Al is still my favorite because he is a great musician not just a great Guitar player. Those lines speak with such authority. Simply the best.
right? he not only can play everything, but he knows a hundred appropriate alternatives for every 'thing' musically... that's the impression i get...he's turned every note into a good note, without exception!
The other thing that many forget about Al is he is also a percussionist on that guitar. Al's timing is way harder to play that Petrucci's straight foward drills. Now I am not knocking Petrucci in any way, that is the big difference between him and Al. Petrucci's solos and riffs are crazy, they are just straight foward and cut right through the music, Al's have all kinds of crazy tempo rudimentary structures that really get frustrating after a while if you want to play his licks properly. Plus the range of jazz that he uses makes his musicality much more advanced that Petrucci's. After a while Petrucci's stuff becomes pretty easily understandable once you master the scales he generally comes out of and his techniques. Now on the other hand with jazz, jazz mathematically is like the Pie equation. It never ends and the possibilities are unlimited. Some of the greatest jazz masters admitted they were still learning jazz in their later years. But that is why Petrucci worships guitarists like Al Di Meola, Steve Howe, Alan Holdsworth and Steve Morse. They all do things uniquely and distinctly with serious technicality and musicality.
What's always amazed me about Al is his impeccable timing. His triplets are always perfect, they start on time and always end on time regardless if they are arpeggios or three-note per string runs.
DiMeola and Holdsworth as the Master's of the Masters. DiMeola even plays long used patterns, sections and devices in constantly refreshing ways. Yeah Al we've been friends most of my life.
AL DE MEOLA SOUL MYSTIC WONDERFULLY BEAUTIFUL DEEP FEELING FULL JOURNEY FULL TIGHT FAST ACCURACY HARMONYS MAGICAL ONE AND ONLY MUSICALLY MUSICIANSHIP 🎶 FUTURIST guitarists in every way amazing THANKS AL been listening to you since FIRST ALBUM LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN .al was so young them already creative. 💫
Yes loved his playing ever since Land of the Midnight Sun, His strong grasp of Latin Rhythms also puts him in a class by himself. A Bad Ass to say the least. His early solo records rule .. !
Al is outstanding, he's simply a genius on electric and accoustic guitar. I hope to see one of his shows in the future!!!! I mist him in Leverkusen at the Jazztage 2012, bad luck!!!
AL DI MEOLA, FOR ME IS THE NUMBER ONE GUITAR PLAY......IT'S SURE .....AND THE PRS CUSTOM WHICH IS PLAY ,IS VERY NICE!!!!!!😃😃...THE COLOUR ON THE NATURAL WOOD. IS MARVELLOUS.......PLEASE AL DI ... SEND ME YOUR GUITAR 😃😃😃😃😃😃
Ojalá sepas que es un gran pianista Argentino que grabó como 10 discos con DimeHola...jijj....es muuuy groso...buscalo y escuchalo...Mario Parmisano se llama. Saludos
"we're gonna take you way back..." to paraphrase Albert King. Not a PRS fan (out of reach) and Al's wasn't much for the eyes but rolling that guitar vol to next to nothing and still sounding sweet...i guess thats why they're loved.
I fell in love with this tune off the Kiss my Axe album but I must concede this live version with PRS guitar is superior to the album version! GREAT TUNE!
wow fuck, there's literally no one out there that can write such a long piece with so many note changes and still keep it interesting the whole way through
Al recently had a heart attack
Get well soon mr.dimeola

Speed, cleaness, feeling, timing, accuracy; now I know why Petrucci cites him as his Sensei

Matteo Mancuso brokes his ass.
don’t really need comments and attitudes like this mystifying jazz further. nothing “”complicated”” my guy just a different style
Who???
KIss my Axe is without a doubt one of Al's best albums. He makes his guitars sing. Just beautiful music.
I know! Transcends any words possible!
He is still well above these well known shredders...........Superb Musicianship.
That sound.... Both clean and overdriven... All pickup positions sound perfect... I prefer Al's Les Paul sound, but this is perfection...
@@midnightcruiser7762 judging by videos on your channel you haven't learned anything yet
I never tire of hearing this song. Never!
What's always amazed me about Al is his impeccable timing. His triplets are always perfect, they start on time and always end on time regardless if they are arpeggios or three-note per string runs.
Yep he is a percussionist on guitar
This song is off "kiss my axe" arguably one of the greatest guitar albums
alot of interesting licks and lines, Al is the master!
I've been a big fan of Al's going way back this man is one of the cleanest Pickers I've ever heard puts me in mind of another clean picker Roy Clark
If it had strings, Roy could pick it!!
by far the best version of this song. so many small details that makes this better than the studio version :P
Al's a bad ass. Love the guitar too.
His timing is and has always been IMMPECABLE!
DiMeola and Holdsworth as the Master's of the Masters. DiMeola even plays long used patterns, sections and devices in constantly refreshing ways. Yeah Al we've been friends most of my life.
FRANK GAMBALE BIRELI LAGRENE TOO ♥
Supersymmetry 0101 i always wanted to see what holds and di could do together on stage....rip holds
Al Di Meola is a great player, but to name him in one line with Allan Holdsworth.. Allan was a different league.
I just imagine this being in an italian castle courtyard on a cool summer night. This song is glorious.
I definitely agree. Great compositions, high intensity & bravado woodwork. And this masterpiece still sounds fresh after almost 25 years!

Beautiful pice of music, don't need any text, it speaks for itself.
An amazing piece of music ! ! !
Fabulous! So much to love about Al’s playing! The metronomic intensity of his picking technique! And he makes the PRS sound SO sweet!
Yes loved his playing ever since Land of the Midnight Sun, His strong grasp of Latin Rhythms also puts him in a class by himself. A Bad Ass to say the least. His early solo records rule .. !
