Queen Elizabeth II Hosts Queen Margrethe II at Windsor Castle (2000)

On 16 February 2000, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh hosted Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark at Windsor Castle. After arriving in a carriage procession, Queen Margrethe inspected the Guard of Honour on the Quadrangle. The Danish Queen and her hosts then attended a reception with Danish and British students.
Queen Margrethe II announced on 31 December 2023 that she will abdicate the throne on 14 January 2024 to allow her son, Crown Prince Frederik, to become King of Denmark. The chosen date of abdication marks the 52nd anniversary of Margrethe's accession to the throne.
