Hey Jon, great content!! I’m in need of some pointers on replacing those hyd coupler bushings and pins. Your video kind of skipped over this part. Probably because it’s not as hard to do as I think it is… maybe. Do you have any advice to offer a novice mech on this procedure?
It's almost impossible to get those pumps out of there without taking the fuel tank and rad out! I've taken pumps out of 2940 and 4520 by just pulling the radiator. Thanks for sharing!
Depending on hours. The older tractors you can just grab the fan blade and you can feel the bearings in the water pump but the gear driven pump on the 50 Series you just have to go by hours. If you got four or five thousand hours on there put a kit in it.
Yes there is a good chance something happened to the spider gears in the differential. Remove the cab, remove both rear axles and then remove the 3 point hitch assembly and then you can get the differential out
I mean fuel pump ;) Is there another regulation except fuel dose? I have 4255 and fuel pump don't have aneroid. Is there full power from the bottom? I'm going to increase fuel dose to about 160hp like in 4455. Thanks for answear.
remove oil filter housing and there is a plate with 4 bolts to hold it on, a nut inside that uses a 10 mm socket and then turn the threads in about a turn and that should get you close to the 160 hp?
This works out really well for us because we already had the radiator out. Some of the tractors that wasn't so bad to roll the front axle and fuel tank away. Depending on what other repairs need to be done is kind of determining on how you did it
John deere dealer? I want to build a test stand so I could rebuild a pump, test it for 10 minutes to make sure it's good, set pressure.. and ship anywhere.
Jon, have to say I am a little disappointed that the video skips the actual removal of the pump itself. I am looking at having to do this on a 4010. Is the pump removal process the same on that model?
Mike P is in upstate NY near me,he and his family sure do have a nice collection of old Deere iron. Have a great day, love the vids.
Loved this video. Just had to replace a o-ring on the out side of the pump on my 4760 tonight. She was dripping all day chopping haylage.

Besides replacing the belts, would you do anything with the water pump while you have good access?

Damn I replaced one in my 4430 when I was in my 20's (it is a 77 model) without taking the fuel tank off. It was a bitch but wish I was 25 again!
Good tear down. I'm not a Deere fan but they sure have a fallowing out there.
Hi my 4040 will only drive with the diff lock on any idea what it could be
Regards
Vic

Jon, I am working on a 3020 john deere s/n pre 122,999 I has a hydraulic oil cooler but no cooler bypass valve. Is this normal?
Holy crap good question.
So your hydraulic levers are on the dash correct?
How to increase torque in this pump? Only fuel dose?
This is the hydraulic pump in this video changing the torque would be on the injection pump on the right hand side of the engine

We just drop the front axle, not sure which is worse.

Good job.
Is there a place in Texas that rebuilds these pumps?
