Parasite director Bong Joon-ho said, "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films."

Storm heavy rain was a real story in South Korea where many poor people who live in these basement homes as well as downstream were all flooded and lost so many thing, sleeping in a gym on the floor while the rich families were like “omg the rain cleared everything. It’s so nice outside. Let’s throw a party” The word Parasite was the perfect title cause both the poor and the rich people are like parasite feeding off of each other. Also the rock in the movie wasn’t actually rock as u can see when they returned the rock back to the water, it floated to the top where a real heavy rock like that would not. Hence why Kevin survived in the end from that brain injury.

the thing about this movie is that in the end, the song that plays was supposed to be called '564 years', the director's calculation of how many years a person in the character's condition would have to work until they had the resources to buy a mansion like the Park family's.
In other words, for those who were in doubt about the supposed ambiguous ending, it is impossible in the society portrayed for someone poor, registered with the police and with a brain trauma to rise economically as he dreams of in the letter.

Movie is about class. South Korea hides its poverty. The poor are parasites, so are the rich, we all feed on each other. Great film.

U can also see the class difference and the hierarchy in South Korea. Kevin was very smart. The mom was a professional athlete. The sister was very artistic yet they are folding pizza boxes and going hungry to survive

you see this story w a western lens. the director puts these themes about korea's stratified society in many of his movies. the kims were capable/intelligent people who conned their way into work bc they'd never be able to get it otherwise... no money for college, tutors, lessons... it is not a society based on merit. the housekeeper and her husband are poor too, but they are grateful for the scraps they get from the wealthy... yet they still had to get money from loan sharks and fight w other poor people for these scraps. so we have 2 types of poor people and one class of very wealthy.
the Parks and their children were all born into privilege: private tutors, lessons, toys, trips, housekeepers, drivers, college. they are all part of a cycle where there is NO upward mobility and your class determines where you wind up. they perpetuate the cycle. it's a caste system by another name. it can be argued they the Parks were the parasites, being artificially propped up by a meritless system where people smarter and more capable will at best end up serving them and little else. they were by no means innocent. heck, the wife is dull, but lives in a mansion bc she was born in the class where she'd find a husband of means.
the college friend did not do this as a favor to Kevin. he didn't consider Kevin a threat to take his girl. that's the only reason he recruited him. blame them for their sins, but don't think for a second anybody in this movie is admirable.
insofar as the plan. the whole point is that "Kevin" will NEVER be able to afford that house. the lyrics at the end tell you it would take him 500+yrs... add brain damage, no college money or prospect of a degree or leg up anywhere.

because the rock is fake so the son is alive. So shook when the rock floating on the water. But not many reaction youtuber know it when they reaction it😢 In an interview, the actor estimated that it would take approximately 564 years for his character Ki-Woo to earn enough money to purchase the house given his status.

27:45 "i know we're seeing the contrast between rich and poor, but like they did _bad things_ to get here."
but that's like the whole point of the movie...
how is that any different to when our societies punish with jail someone that steals to buy food or medicine for their families? someone that sell illegal products? someone that turns to piracy and doesn't pay for the music, movies or books they consume?
poor people do "bad things" in some ppl eyes all the time. and then they're "justly punished" for it, because "they deserve it", as some ppl say. meanwhile, rich ppl do exactly the same "bad things" and worse and go free or serve their sentences happily in their huge homes with lots of space and confort.
how do we deem something as "bad" when it's poor people trying to earn a living and improve their current situation, but when it's rich ppl doing it without real need we turn a blind eye? that's one of the questions this movie is asking.
we also see this between the two poor families and how they parallel each other. the "ghost" living under the Park house and his wife do almost the same things as the Kims (lie, steal, occupy for free, etc), but get sympathy from the audience because they're nice, compliant and grateful to the rich family. a rich family that doesn't even respect them the same way and that is ready to fire them at the first instance of "crossing the line".
i think Dawn is taking the movie too literally when it was never intended to be taken literally. no one really acts like this. it's filled with allegories and metaphors. it's a satire about class and capitalism, and how it makes us all parasites. the rich and the poor are both parasites of each other.

The rich family insulted poor people in general far more than the poor family insulted them. The parents talk about poor people's smell and think they are all drug addicts. They are incredibly gullible and ignorant of the real world. Meanwhile, the poor family is actually skilled like the dad is a smooth driver, the mom can cook dishes that she's never cooked before well, the daughter can calm a naughty boy, and the son really knows how to prepare for exams. But they never get the opportunity. They weren't even scamming to get rich. They were scamming to get basic jobs. Americans might think anyone can become rich if they work hard without cheating but in reality countries with high wealth inequality, there's like an invisible ceiling separating between classes. Like how its estimated that it would take 564 years for the son to earn enough money to purchase the house given his status.

      exactly! great comment.
like when Dawn said "is he gonna go after him? just because of that insult?" (30:30) i was like, really? is not "just an insult" tho. the disgust the Park family shows for the smell ultimately represents the disgust they have for poor ppl.
and they insult them _all the time_ but it gets over their heads because they're "nice" (which is intentional). the Parks fire ppl that have worked with them _for years_ over minor issues that could've been talked. they're so ignorant and paranoid they don't know how tuberculosis or epilepsy even work (and can't possibly tell that a stab through the chest is way more dangerous than an "epileptic seizure"). they hate the smell and their "dirty clothes", but get horny because of them and want to do it "like poor ppl", they want to be "common ppl" (like that great Pulp song), for them being poor is a fantasy, something to roleplay. how they spoil their son, that can do literally anything he wants whenever he wants, to the point that they shush Mrs. Kim because she's "noisy" preparing the birthday of that same son. how money is used as a justification to basically own a person: they can't complain or cross the line if they're being paid. and that's just a few examples.
and yeah, the Kim family was extremely skilled: the dad was super smart and ace driver that learned quick, the mom could act as a perfect housewife and cook meals that she couldn't afford, the daughter was highly skilled in photoshop and could improvise on the spot, the son took the exam for admission to the university like 4 times and had english level of a professional tutor. as you said, the only thing they lacked was opportunities, and that's intentional, because that's how in real life rich ppl talk about poor ppl "if only they made plans..." "they're just too lazy...". the movie is filled with parodies and sarcasm about those same comments and opinions.

and like, yeah, reactions to this movie are just underwhelming (esp reactions from americans, but that's hardly surprising i guess) xd
