Just happened to seeing this listening to this song. Kirk Hammett is no comparison to George Lynch as far as I'm concerned. Personally I'm not a big Metallica fan because all their music sounds a lot alike. You hear Kirk do one guitar solo you've heard pretty much all of them. You hear George to a solo you've heard one of 1000.. Dokkens music was always so much better than Metallica's
Lynch ran circles around all of the guys who played in monsters of rock festival 1988 but he and don had so much hate for each other that it was causing fracture in the rest of the band and they performed like shit and became the laughing stock of the set. It's too bad, because talent wise, none of those bands had shit on dokken
They only gave it to Metallica as a sympathy award as some kind of automatic atonement for the embarrassment the previous year when Jethro Tull was given the award after Metallica had just performed live. Kind of like what they've done with Taylor Swift for the last decade 🤣 Dokken had already split by the time of nominations which wouldn't have gone in their favour for the win. I agree Lynch is one of the best in the business 👌 Kirk was at the peak of his playing around '88-89 too, he's since become lazy & horribly sloppy & would be lost without his cry-baby wah... But Mr. Scary still has the goods!
lynch worked his ass off on this thing and put in the performance of his career...stellar stuff...still has legitimate impact after all of the decades that have passed.
I am an artist. George uses the "Halloween colors:" Orange, Purple, and Green, as opposed to the primary colors: Red, blue, and yellow. It shows how totally SICK (and I mean that in a good way!) his playing is.
I have both the Japan 2 disc set and so glad I found it at a good price when I did. I think this needs to be rereleased in the US with the full track listing.
I had this cassette at one time and I believe that these two songs are on there. The CD isn’t long enough to hold all of the songs. I want to say the cassette version has three more songs than the CD. This is a very very good live album.
These 2 songs were on the Tape version, here in the states. They had to take them off the CD, because CDs can only hold so many minutes of songs. Tapes, on the other hand, can hold more songs. I remember having these songs on my tape version. Then, later, when i got the cd, it didn't have these songs. I totally forgot these songs existed, until recently.

Oh and yall, it sounds like he's using the neck pickup for the main riff through the WHOLE song. that's why it sounds so smooth I guess. I could be wrong though

Yeah I saw these cats 5 times in the late 80’s…… in Philadelphia and Baltimore opening for AEROSMITH AND Judas Priest….. THIS LIVE album is AMAZING but BACK FOR THE ATTACK ITSELF….. was a bit soft or at least badly produced. Could have and should have been the best
No it was cut purely for time constraints, compact discs could only fit a maximum of 70min until about 1996 when it was increased to 80min. Set closer 'Turn On The Action' was also cut from the CD along with these 2, the Japanese version was 2 discs so it's the full show. I only had the cassette as a kid but all songs were on it

I have always believed that dokken tweaked this album in studio because I've seen their live videos of their 1988 monsters of rock performances and they sucked badly, George played like shit, don sang with 1/3rd the intensity that he sang on the records of those songs and this is just too far ahead of that

Most likely, it was common practice with most live albums in the mid 70's through the 80's, most of what are revered as the greatest live albums of all-time are heavily worked & overdubbed or re-recorded in the studio, from Kiss - Alive, Cheap Trick - Live At Budokan, Judas Priest - Unleashed In The East, Thin Lizzy - Live & Dangerous to Iron Maiden - Live After Death, W.A.S.P - Live..In The Raw etc. I suspect Dokken did the same with Beast From The East for the reasons you mentioned, it was stock & trade in the industry at the time. Don himself didn't do cocaine but was an alcoholic & valium addict, George, Jeff & Wild Mick all did blow & that was one of the many reasons why Don wasn't part of the gang

Even though no video, George's guitar work on the entire live album was the best he's ever done. The tone is on par with all the best.

I think he split his signal up between at least two amps. That’s how got that clean and dirt sound simultaneously. 🤷🏻♂️
