    I'm watching your videos to prepare for our son's double jaw surgery on June 14, 2023. It is SO HELPFUL. You are adorable. I giggled when you said, "6 weeks! I hope you don't make me do that!" Poor thing! 😂 You're beautiful, even at the day 1 post-op. ❤️
    Anyway, thank you so much for documenting these days and weeks post-op! You're a trooper!!!

      All went very well. His recovery was WAY easier than we thought, especially after watching these videos! His pain was well managed, so he said the worst part was the liquid diet! He lost 8 pounds. Also, his lips were so chapped and sore from the surgery, so when the doc had to reattach some rubber bands/examine after surgery, stretching his lips was pretty painful. His surgeon was outstanding.
      I ordered syringes and tubing from Amazon for "eating" and had lots of good recipes for smoothies, soups, etc., so that helped. I hope it goes as well for you!

      I’m doing well. Thanks for asking. Most all the numbness has gone…just a little on my chin and bottom lip. When I eat I have a little popping on the left side but not a big deal. I was told I’m still healing. It’s only been 3 1/2 months. My braces might be coming off my next appointment which is December 11. I never really had any pain. Took some ibuprofen to help with swelling. I didn’t even take the hydrocodone.

      @@teresa3049 good to know your doing well, maybe talk to your orthodontist about the popping, just so it doesn't escalate into anything else. I'm a month off the table myself so still a long way to go. Had two very rough weeks at the beginning but doing much better now

      I have told the orthodontist and he says everything is still healing. He doesn’t want me to overstrain when opening/yawning. I just have to be patient and hopefully it goes away. Glad to hear you’re doing better. It does take time. Keep me posted.

    I know you might not feel like it, but you actually look so good! I am having jaw surgery this summer and I have been struggling emotionally. Stay positive! That has a significant impact on your recovery speed.

      I totally agree! I’m about a year post-op now, and looking back, I definitely progressed really well when it came to my swelling. I definitely struggled emotionally as well, especially fearing that I would look worst afterwards, but I couldn’t be happier with the results! It was all sooooo worth it! Every last part 😄 wishing you luck on your journey!

    HEY I GOT DOUBLE JAW SURGERY 3 WEEKS AGO 😂 how is it going so far? the stitches in my mouth have gone, but my face is still kinda swollen and my cheeks slightly hurt and i can't eat hard food but i can have soft food, im totally done with the liquid food.

      Wow you’ve really progressed well to be on soft foods already! I’m actually almost a year post-op, but I couldn’t do any sort of chewing until week 6 😫 I did also start losing my stitches in week 3 :)

      My 3 week post-op self would be so jealous 😂 super happy for you though! Are you not wearing a splint? Is that why you’re able to use your teeth? I had a splint in for 5 weeks, preventing me from chewing even if I would have felt strong enough to do so.

    Is the actual surgery part scary because that’s what I’m most afraid of does the surgery feel like it lasted for like a second or how was it ?

    • @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
      @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the actual surgery itself wasn’t scary :) Considering my surgery took 9 hours, it felt like my typical nightly sleep. While I don’t recall dreaming or anything, I could tell that a long period of time passed. Most surgeries don’t go past the 6 hour mark, but I would imagine the same applies for that amount of time. Just a deep, dark sleep. If you have more questions, let me know!

    • @OfficialGunner.
      @OfficialGunner. ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for answering! I have two more questions - what was the overall scariest thing about the whole surgery and is this something I should be stressing about because my surgery is June 8th and I’m pretty nervous 😅

    • @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
      @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally, I was most worried about breathing when coming out of surgery as, beforehand, I could never properly breathe out of my nose.
      But I had faith that I would be able to breathe, because I figured, “if this was an actual problem, then they wouldn’t be performing this surgery so often.”
      And I’m so grateful I came to that conclusion BEFORE going into surgery, because I went into it with such peace, and came out of surgery with peace. Sure enough, I was able to breathe just fine. It’s crazy how much our bodies do for us, even when we don’t feel we’re in control of ourselves. Considering I was on heavy drugs coming out of surgery, I had hardly any control over my body - yet my body took care of me. It was like I was on autopilot (which honestly was such a relief).
      You can trust your body. You don’t need to worry about anything: that’s the doctor’s job. If anything were to go wrong, you’ll be in the best possible setting (a hospital). Your only job is to stay positive and recover. Remain focused on the end result and the purpose behind getting the surgery. This surgery is going to improve your quality of life and grow you into a stronger person. Who would be scared of that?
      However, it IS okay to worry and wonder sometimes. I did a heck of a lot of worrying a few months prior to surgery, when doing all the research I possibly could on the surgery. But once I educated myself, and finished with my despairing and worrying, the only thing left in my mind was: I need to prepare. So don’t feel ashamed for worrying, but do make an effort to come to a point of peace closer to your surgery.
      Hope that answers your questions and then some 😄 I’m rooting for you!

    • @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
      @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there :) The answer to that question is a bit complicated, as I had to still pay the monthly fee for my insurance, a mass payment for the surgery, and still pay for visits to my surgeon, + Invisalign treatment. But as straightforward as possible, for just the surgery, while I should have paid $55,000, I only had to pay a total of about $2,900. This cost includes a year of insurance payments, and then a mass payment of $500 the day of surgery. My insurance (Anthem Blue Cross) covered the rest of the costs, as I met the requirements for them to do so. Amounts will vary depending on your insurance, and depending on how medically necessary your surgery is deemed. Hope this helped 🙏🏼
