    Garrett pan kit $30 is all you need to start. Talk to community members; people love to help.
    I started with a hub cap on the side of the road...just get out and try it.

      Rich! I don’t know why your comment is gone but yea, I get there are kits, but I went and bought kits when I first started and most of it just sits in the shop collecting dust🤣 Most of the stuff they throw in there is junk anyway and come on brother… you know when we all started out, everyone wanted a sluice to up the changes of getting more gold. Why not spend a little extra and get one of the best sluices! When I started I bought 3 sluices thinking I’d be at an advantage… I was wrong and wasted all of that money. Ok so maybe this list is for the new prospector that wants to get into this hobby just a bit more, that has more of a crack itch than just a regular itch 🤣🤣🤣 love ya bro!

    Ever heard of a "poop tube" sluice? It might not have as good a percentage capture rate as a Dream Mat or some of the other rubber mats out there, but you can build a lot of "beginner" prospecting equipment out of junk. Snuffer bottle by shoving a tube into a hole drilled in the cap of a bottle, gutter sluices, kitchen strainer classifier, etc., and if you're not afraid of the weight, you can build a sluice box out of wood like the old timers any size you like for relatively cheap. You can pan with just about anything, even a shovel, if you understand the technique, but it's hard on my back and IMO the most tedious and boring way to prospect, no matter how necessary the skill is, so I avoid it as much as possible. Personally, I like Gold Hog mats and a Blue Bowl concentrator, but they're not exactly cheap. I imagine most people living on the east coast would have a very difficult time finding anything other than a speck here and there with just a pan unless they're in an area that produced good gold in the past, and they're limited to private property that they have permission to prospect. Don't forget that research is also a major part of prospecting, too.

      Hey Christine! I love you’re comment! And yes you are correct that you can just about use anything to catch gold. I’ve used a lot of equipment and through the years… these are my go to favorites and I know they’ll work, even for the beginner and expert. When I first started, I tried everything and wasted tons of money in doing so, so I figured I’d take the guess work out of some and show them some good equipment. I’ve also used a lot of “not prospecting” equipment and found some gold. I actually like doing that the most. It’s fun and cool to see everyday items collect gold. And yes, I do watch some east coasters prospect and it’s definitely slimmer Pickens out east but people are still finding it and in every state as well. It’s all about the hunt and that why I enjoy seeing people get on it. Where are you from by chance? I don’t need an exact location. East or west will work just fine. You seem pretty experienced and I bet you have some awesome stories to tell! Thanks again Christine :)

      @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser I only have personal experience prospecting on the east coast, on a poor to mediocre creek with way too much overburden on average in the mountains of VA outside of the gold belt. Finding anything at all was very difficult, you can do 20 pans and only find a speck or two, no matter where you dig, but after a lot of research and hard work I managed to find a few tiny and super course pickers on the bedrock (they didn't travel hardly at all). There are still decent gold bearing areas in VA, but most of the alluvial east coast gold is probably way too deep in valleys that filled in long ago, because these mountains are as old as Pangaea, and even though quartz float is all over the Blue Ridge, it's hard to find any bedrock to look at without digging. I've spent WAY more than I've found, but it's fun to get out every now and then and test a new spot or upgraded piece of equipment, and I've learned a decent bit of geology in the process (not to mention pulled a lot of lead, nails, and broken glass out of the creek).

    Where you been at bro ? Been MIA for a good min lol... Great video. Great information, everyone has their own preference when it comes to equipment. I love my super sluice pan cause the bottom is wide. Makes it much more easy for doing clean ups. Plus your able to go through so much more material faster. As for dream mat I'm not to much of a fan of it. I do like that you don't have to classify. But I'd still classify lol. Love my A51. And I know a lot of guys don't like the whole carpet and riffles thing. Mainly cause you gotta burn the carpet and pan the ashes to get the rest of the gold. Plus the riffles and carpet and mesh add extra weight. Witch sucks if your hiking. But it doesn't bother me to much.been meaning to get out to the creek soon. But I've been taking a break from prospecting this summer and just been fishing a lot lol

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Shawn! First off thanks for the continued support and comment. That’s a great question. I check monthly on their website to see if any new rules dropped and happened to check last month and still see that the rules are still applicable (as of the 2021 edition) and nothing new has surfaced. Have you seen something different or are wanting any other info? If not, rest assured I will always keep everyone up-to-date if new rules come out. I’m also hoping, like you are, that on the next rewrite, they loosen the rules. I was planning on doing a beach mining rule set since I didn’t hit it on the 2022 video. I just haven’t gotten out there to do anything. I also wanted to do a video on the permit process but ran into some roadblocks that I’m still hoping to work through. Anyway, I hope this helped and answered your question my friend. Thanks again Shawn!

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Veteran Metals! Super appreciate the comment and support! To answer your question, I don’t sell any raw gold, I kind of wish I did, but it’s something I haven’t even looked into yet, having said that, I can let you know who I buy my raw gold from. Goldnuggetsales.com is the go to for buying raw gold. Once you’re on their site, quick the menu button on the upper left, then go to their wholesale nugget page and boom, you can buy anything you want there. The prices are very good (almost spot price) and you’ll get very good gold. That what I would do if I were you. Also, if you want paydirt, they sell that there as well, but also mike from vendetta prospecting sells some really great paydirt bags as well. He’s also very trustworthy in this community. I hope this answered your questions and thank you again so much.

      Hey Michael! Man I wish I knew who to contact out there. I do know there is some great ground in the upper east side mountains of Oregon but I wouldn't know the first place to get a pan wet. Try researching some areas in those mountains and see if there is a club. You can also try the Columbia River as well. Gold does travel through there and I'm sure you can find some flakes along the banks. My apologies if this didn't help answer your question. I'm mostly a western Washington guy so anywhere else... I’ve tried a lot of different pieces of equipment and I’ve had luck with some and no luck with others. I do believe however, that this list is good and is what you need to try prospecting to see if you like it without breaking the bank. That’s important to me, saving money but having fun. Sure you could go all out and buy the best of something, but realistically thinking, prospecting is hard work, so start off slow and steady :) super appreciate the comments :)

Dont listen to the dickheads. I was definitely impressed with your vid. It was honest and informative. Now, my questions 😅. I live in the northeast and we basically have flour, fine, some pickers, and occasional nug. I am just starting to, and i have bought everything except the sluice. I want a 36/ or 42? Maybe inch sluice like the 24 inch u just showed. Which 1 from who should i get it? 2, which dream mats would best suit me for the gold up here? Please let me know.

    • @StoneyCreekSparkchaser
      @StoneyCreekSparkchaser  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      My man Anthony! Thanks for the comment and support and don't you worry, people are going to always troll and it doesn't bother me. I'm so used to it by now, hahaha.
      I for your question, hmmm... that's tough.
      Since you're beginning, me personally, I'd get Dream Mat's 8 inch Bigfoot sluice. The one I use is 8 inches wide by 35 inches long (the mat is 24 inches long). It's small and really works well in most conditions. As for the mat, the combo mat is tried and true and will deliver (obviously dependent upon if you're on the gold).
      But if you're stuck on wanting a larger sluice, then one with a 36 inch mat would be more than enough. I have a 12x36 inch Dream Mat sluice with the combo mat and it eats material. I love that thing. Having said that though, it's heavy and to be honest, when I go out in the mountains, I'm just using my 8 inch Bigfoot sluice. It's just lighter and easier to carry and it honestly works just as well as its bigger brother, the 12x36.
      So anyway. I hope I answered your questions and please if you have anymore, feel free to ask away. Welcome to the hobby and good luck out there. And on a final note, remember, keep your initial costs down and just have fun trying it out. There's no need spending tons of money on something which monetarily might not pan out, but on the fun aspect of things, it's a great way to spend sometime outside :) Good luck my friend :)

    After visiting "Stoney" for a week or so back in August, I saw this same equipment...and in action. Since I don't know a dang thing about p r o s p e c t i n g, I can imagine that this would be a good start for someone whos' interests are brewing. The investment seems fair and not a ton is put into the craft. Heck, most probably even have a scoop in the form of a small garden shovel. I can imagine costs going up though if you plan to continue with this hobby. Anyway, seems like a decent start to me.
