Manny thanks for a very informative video, but my problem is rather unique in that I just wanted to verify how deep the treasure was buried. I live in the Philippines and came to know a place where towards the end of WWII, the Japanese buried the treasures in desperation because the American forces were just in the next hacienda (as they call it now). Big time explorers (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and British) are highly mechanized using Backhoe, Dump Trucks and other earth moving equipment that even go underground into tunnels). Also, there were lots of small farmers who already had unearthed treasures buried in their own farm, and a lot more identified locations (accidentally discovered while flowing the field). Incidentally, in that same kind of activity my team dug a 3' hole x 15' deep through one end of 4' x 8' concrete cover (2' below the surface), and again through a second cover 6' (or 6' below the top cover) going down. I'd like already to imagine the container as 2-storey concrete box. Since the soil was rocky, made of large & small marble and sand, digging works was very hard and progress had been snail paced through manual digging. At 15' down from top cover we intend to dig horizontally to the opposite end. But because water coming out from beneath is strong the digging works is difficult through the rocky soil. We are now thinking, because of the difficulty, that it would be better to bore another hole through the center of the other half end of 4'x 8' top cover. Also, we taught that works would be faster should the treasure ( whatever it is) was deposited in the upper storey of the 2-storey box. Pinpointing to what quarter the treasure was deposited would be easier using "detector". The only question now is, - which detector is best suited for this kind of application. There were seven (7) more identified other locations and we intend to use our, would be, first detector to verify their individual depths. Hope you can help me select the best compromised detector's "make and model" option for our particular application. Best regard.

Detectors designed for nugget detecting are much different from those made for hunting beaches. I do not do beach hunting. So asking me is like asking a Professional Golfer which soccer ball is best.
Question, please.... if I want a detector for finding gold nuggets when I take my road trips, but when I am at home in Texas and I just want to mess around the lakes and parks, will that same detector work for that? I just can't really get two detectors yet, maybe later. So, nugget is my priority, and coins, jewelry and relics second priority. Not a great fan of all the crazy LCD screens and gadgetry. I'm an audio kind of guy...hahaha..Cheers! Nice video.
Thanks!! Seems to me its about choices but I think the answer is two might be better than one. Funny with all this technology out and all the knowledge out in the world they can't get it Or they do get it and have to make so many models to keep business going.
TX does not have gold nuggets large enough to metal detect. You might find gold jewelry, but you are better off with a coin / relic machine for gold jewelry. AZ does have detectable gold but how often are you in AZ with lots of free time to detect?
Its a perfectly good coin and relic machine, but its not designed to be a gold nugget metal detector. White's Electronics is now closed and out of business.

There is a local GPAA club - join them. They have claims in the general area around Las Vegas (not in the Vegas valley but a reasonable drive). Go to a club meeting and tell Deanna that Chris Ralph sent you. Their claims are good, you can find gold there and they will give you a place to learn.
Its not a simple question. Are you going to do any coin and jewelry hunting in parks and schools? Not all gold districts in Nevada and California are the same. There are other questions as well. Watch the video, and then go to a local metal detector dealer and look at what he has, talk to him and decide which would work for you.
Question For going over dredge.tailings. There are a lot of quartz rocks, fist and head size.laid out in the typical huge rows the dredges leave behind.Ability to penatrate i is important, and typically fist size rocks with veins of gold are found scattered through it are found. The dredge tailings are pretty much dry, not wet,,,,,,, medium magnitite levels. want to get better depth and discrimenation.Suggestion for medium price range please. name and model please. Ball park price please.. Pulse techno;ogy or the other ?
Quartz is really common and there are many many quartz veins with only traces of gold. If the video does not suggest something to you, then there is nothing I can add.
@@ChrisRalph Well. What I was looking for was a recomendation for going over dredge tailings as described. A lot of people play around with these tailings, but few buy a specific purpose machine, offering superior depth and send sensitivity for this media. No idea if pulse is better or the other type My budget is about 500 to 1000. dollars. No, The video doesnt state what machine, and, if I can even find a adequate machine in my price range. Apparently you arnt a good source. I will ask someone else.
Your budget is too small for a pulse machine. Check out the prices. Dredge tails are tough. Some have rocks with gold, but most do not it depends on where you are.
If I like coins but I’m only interested in finding gold coins, and If I like jewelry but I’m only interested in finding gold jewelry, and I really like looking for gold nuggets small and large, is it safe to say, a gold metal detector will find gold coins and gold jewelry as good as it finds gold nuggets? I mean if I get one that is designed for nuggs, will it work for the other gold items?
That is not correct. Nugget detectors are made to see small targets in strongly mineralized ground. Most nuggets are small and most gold deposits are mineralized. Most jewelry and coins are large by comparison, even small coins like a dime are larger than most nuggets. The places where coins and jewelry are found (parks, schools, beaches, etc.) are generally less mineralized than gold mining districts.
Great video , it has helped me a lot. New to metal detecting and need all the help I can get. I am looking for a machine that is user friendly for the novice user. I will be going to Arizona this year for a few weeks an plan on doing some prospecting. Wish me luck. Again thanks for your advice.
I live in the netherlands and we have as good as no gold in the ground. I want to hunt gold objects like rings etc. NOT coins and iron, unless it's a gold coin offcourse 😅 Which detector would you recommend? I live near a salt water beach where i also will be searching.

I know I’ve heard you mention you don’t do much with military metal detectors but figure I’ll ask anyway. Do you know anything about a MLD-1 I think it’s a PI style but not positive & ive been on there website but not much info. Will this thing detect gold ? Any help would be great thanks. I’m looking at purchasing gold monster 1000 but not till summer I’m in interior alaska it’s -10 to -40 till who knows when so not worth dumping $800 at moment I’m sure you agree. I love all the great info you give out AWESOME THANKS. I prospect & mine every summer so again I really like all your knowledge THANK YOU 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A military mine detector would be a very bad choice. Sometimes trying to save money leads to just wasting money on bad purchases. The GM 1000 would be a very good choice for Alaska.
Hey Sir Chris! Many Thanks! I have your book, I would love to meet you and have you autograph it for me. :) I'm researching for a couple of metal detectors for my wife. I came across a XP Deus 1 with two coils and a Minelab 800 also with two coils (Both have a large and a small coil) used for a decent $. Will you be updating your recommendation list for some of the newer technology that incorporates attributes of a good multipurpose rig with better gold detecting skills? What is you impression of these tools?
Hi John - You found me here on TH-cam! At hard rock mines I've used my Gold Monster because of the discrimination and sensitivity to small gold - and both of those are important when searching hard rock mines.
Question,,if your going to detect in water and on land, which "one",will actually cover both,I can't afford to pay for two....so can you help me out here please...
All of them you can pout the coil and shaft underwater, only the the SDC 2300 is fully submersible. Also the Macro GOld Cruzer is a fully submersible detector. I talk about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/oTBIcrwswZU/w-d-xo.html

upvoted for "not a detector dealer". so many ppl on youtube doing "reviews" of products theyre trying to sell :/ ProTip: if you're selling it, its an advertisement, not a review
Amazing. The village idiot came to comment on my video! Pro tip for a dufus: If you dont bother to actually listen to the video and then make comments on what you didn't watch, you look like a total idiot. Let me see if I can make it plain enough for you: I dont sell detectors and never have. No one can buy a detector from me because I dont sell them. I've never sold any of the detectors shown in this video - and never will. I'm not selling them. Hope you can understand.

Sorry I dont have the mind reading skills to know when you've made a typo or not. Your comment originally read like you thought I was a dealer (which I say plainly I am not) and thought I should have called my reviews an advertisement. Shows how much a typo can really change what a post says....

Great video!! New sub too! Hey if you were hitting utah. Which would mainly be mountains, rivers and maybe dessert. What one would you go with? Just gold and 1,500-3k range?
@ChrisRalph Apreciate the quick response my man! I think I'm debating on the Gm 1000 or the gold bug 2. Probably leaning more towards the gm. Do you think it's possible to find gold flakes in the mountains in utah. Well enough to thicken the gold fever lol I know there isn't a lot of nuggets but doesn't utah have alot of production from flakes? Would it be better to try and hunt gold in a nearby state? I live in northern utah. It's like 1.5 hours north of utah but hunting gold is definitely calling my name
I suggest you study nugget detecting before spending your money. Metal detectors don't detect tiny flakes. There is a minimum size below which a detector will not sound off. The GM 1000 is among the most sensitive, but there is plenty of gold in Utah, too small to be seen with a metal detector.
Yes there is a test, but you need a metal detector to do the test. Mineralized is the amount of iron in the soil. Perhaps ask other people who find gold what there experience is in your area.
True if you buy a detector designed with gold in mind. If you purchase a machine designed for coins and rings, you may be ignoring 80% to 90% of the gold in the ground.
I think I told you about the GMT I saw at a club up for sale for $300 not bad at all or the one I have for like $100 it's a whites gold master 4/b good enough or get some cardboard and a marker and some clothes from the goodwill and stand on the street corner people give you money
Fake people who are not in desperate need but stand a street corners begging for profit is why I wont give in those cases, but only to charities that are real. A GMT in good condition for $300 is a very good deal.

Look at minelab's own material on the Xterra Pro - Its a beginner detector for beaches, coin and relic hunting. Even according to Minelab, its not designed to find gold nuggets. The standard coil is big - made for coins, rings, etc - not smaller targets like nuggets.
@@ChrisRalph thank you Chris for your reaction. Can it target over 1 or 2 grammers? Can it pick up piece of natural gold that are bigger in a high mineralised area?
True, large enough pieces that are near to the surface can be found. But the majority of gold found is about gram size and less, you will be ignoring and missing a lot of gold, and gold is hard enough to find without handicapping yourself.
@@ChrisRalph again thank you, I appreciate your response. It has 15khz, do you have advise on which settings you should set it to maximize the chance on those nuggets. Or should I listen to very soft sounds, (prospecting in valleys with small rivers in african desert)

Detectors designed for nugget detecting are much different from those made for hunting beaches. I do not do beach hunting. So asking me is like asking a Professional Golfer which soccer ball is best.
It has prospecting mode and goes up to 40khz
Excellent video Chris thank you for your information
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice video.
There are a number of multipurpose detectors. Not as good at gold, but they do OK.
Another GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO CHRIS.cheers champ.
Good afternoon. I'm in Orlando Florida, what you recommend to me for coins detecting? Thanks for your help.
My expertise is really in detecting gold - there are plenty of folks who are expert in detecting coins.
Is 19 khz best for gold. Im looking at the Fisher Gold Bug Pro, with 5inch coil. Thanks joe
19 kHz is a compromise of moderate sensitivity and moderate ability to find things other than gold too.
Thanks!!
Seems to me its about choices but I think the answer is two might be better than one. Funny with all this technology out and all the knowledge out in the world they can't get it Or they do get it and have to make so many models to keep business going.
True for cars, televisions and just about any product.
Love your videos! Very helpful & great speaking very genuine
Thank you so much! Lots more videos coming soon.
Chris which is best in your opinion for gold hunting Nokta Gold Kruzer , XP ORX Gold I'm looking to buy one and live in TX but have a son in AZ also
TX does not have gold nuggets large enough to metal detect. You might find gold jewelry, but you are better off with a coin / relic machine for gold jewelry. AZ does have detectable gold but how often are you in AZ with lots of free time to detect?
I’m in No. California, which detector is popular for gold ?
Depends on where you go prospecting - not all of northern California is the same.
Thanks Cris your the best,, could say something about whites tm808 thanks and God bless
Its a perfectly good coin and relic machine, but its not designed to be a gold nugget metal detector. White's Electronics is now closed and out of business.
@@ChrisRalph thanks for fast reply and 🙏 one more favor sir Chris any idea or suggestions that it works in the Philippines?? thanks and God bless stay safe 💗💗
Great explanation of options, thanks
You are welcome! Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Just purchased the gb2 and have yet to use it but I'm all in now !!! I'm in Southern Nevada and have no idea where to go hunting lol any advice ? Love the videos tho man !!!
There is a local GPAA club - join them. They have claims in the general area around Las Vegas (not in the Vegas valley but a reasonable drive). Go to a club meeting and tell Deanna that Chris Ralph sent you. Their claims are good, you can find gold there and they will give you a place to learn.
Which is the best nugget detector for Nevada/ California under $2,000?
Sending love from Alaska really really would love to pick your brain second year prospecting taking a trip to find gold cuz why not
Lots of good prospectors up in Alaska, and good opportunities.
Hello i like your teaching about gold detecter if blf is the best detecter so where can I buy it and what is the price of blf detecter thank you
Use Google to find out who sells metal detectors in your country.
Indeed i would to say thank you for all information which im really get benefit and interesting.thanks
Happy to hear that! I'm glad the videos are helpful.
Great advice Chris and agree 100% on your choice of detectors.
I am glad you enjoyed the video.
What makes for the best metal detector, the person knowing how to use it.
I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Great clarification of detectors, thanks from a newbie. Will the big Mine Lab have a smaller coil option yet. Also is DD coil better than concentric?
DD is better in some places but not better in other places.
Great video! Very in-depth!
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for your help, love the channel learning a lot 😊
Great video , it has helped me a lot. New to metal detecting and need all the help I can get. I am looking for a machine that is user friendly for the novice user. I will be going to Arizona this year for a few weeks an plan on doing some prospecting. Wish me luck. Again thanks for your advice.
Good luck to you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
I live in the netherlands and we have as good as no gold in the ground. I want to hunt gold objects like rings etc. NOT coins and iron, unless it's a gold coin offcourse 😅
Which detector would you recommend? I live near a salt water beach where i also will be searching.
Detectors designed for nugget detecting are much different from those made for hunting beaches. I do not do beach hunting. So asking me is like asking a Professional Golfer which soccer ball is best.
Mine Lab 800 is very good.🇨🇦
Excellent info, thanks.
Our pleasure!
Chris Ralph, Professional Prospector ok thank you. I actually got it free so not out any $. Again thank you for your time 👍🏻
I was saving money for buying best but the are not available in Kenya so I don't know what to do 😢
I am sure someone in Kenya sells metal detectors. Keep searching for the dealer who sells them.
Can you advice me what kind of detector for buried Yamashita treasurer in Philippines? I have a site here were lot of treasure sign.
Metal detectors can only see to a certain depth, deep buried treasure may be too deep.
What do you think of Spanish dip needle's
Bogus and waste of time - Check out my video on dowsing for gold - th-cam.com/video/04KcwCYo7oI/w-d-xo.html
Very well done Chris and on target.... See you soon.
Thanks, Bill! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Looking forward to seeing you up this way.
Sir your Explanations very good . thanks You very much.sir
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I cant really cover every detector ever made - just too much, too many of them. I am at many GPAA gold shows and am happy to sign.
So which detector(s) do you use for detecting around the perimeter of old hard rock mines or in active hard rock claims, or rock outcrops?
Hi John - You found me here on TH-cam! At hard rock mines I've used my Gold Monster because of the discrimination and sensitivity to small gold - and both of those are important when searching hard rock mines.
Great video! Chris could you compare the Minelab GPX 4000 at the same level of the Whites TDI Pro? Or this information don't procede? Thanks
I would say that while the TDI is good, the GPX 4000 is the better detector. I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Hello sir .what is the best detector with accurate target iD.
Best one you can afford.
@@ChrisRalph just name sir you have alot of experience .mention good one regardless of it's money
Great man. Sir can please guide me I want to buy Detecor till 2000$.which will b the best in that price?can search archaeological sites and metals also.im b very thankful to u
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
upvoted for "not a detector dealer".
so many ppl on youtube doing "reviews" of products theyre trying to sell :/
ProTip: if you're selling it, its an advertisement, not a review
@@ChrisRalph *fixed my typo, a typo which should have been plainly evident, considering in i quoted you saying exactly what you said, then morally reinforced your own stated position on the subject (speaking of village idiots).. the reason i 'up'voted (ive never heard of a thing called 'un'voting, which is why this typo is so damn obvious) is because you dont sell them, maybe i should go back and downvote, cos, basic english comprehension skills?
Sorry I dont have the mind reading skills to know when you've made a typo or not. Your comment originally read like you thought I was a dealer (which I say plainly I am not) and thought I should have called my reviews an advertisement. Shows how much a typo can really change what a post says....
@@ChrisRalph no, i was definitely calling out 99% of the OTHER youtubers, who have "affiliate links" at best, or are actual retail/online dealers. my comment read like it made no sense at all.
your videos are really valuable, adding to my own geology education, which focused more on tectonics than mineral formation
Chris, I will be running all types of terrain from riverbanks to desert areas as we RV around the country, looking specifically for gold as a hobby activity. Thinking about a Garrett ATX. Would this be a better machine for gold or more of a combo/all around type of detector in your opinion? Help! Thanks for your input & advice!
More a combo type.
the nugget at 19:48 looks like a Mask Drama sculpture of Tragedy Comedy. Very cool!
Fun stuff in seeing various things in nugget shapes.
Great video!! New sub too! Hey if you were hitting utah. Which would mainly be mountains, rivers and maybe dessert. What one would you go with? Just gold and 1,500-3k range?
Depends on what you want to do with it. There are not many places to search for nuggets in Utah.
@ChrisRalph k there is a book about panning in utah. Maybe I'll start there! Thanks for all the information!!
An excellent book. Its by Alan Chenworth. It has lots of info.
Thanks for your honest explanations🙏🙏
You are welcome.
Hi Chris what about the nokta makro jeohunter 3 d with the big coil is it fake or true
It is real but no good for gold nuggets as it only sees very large targets. It would have a hard time seeing nuggets smaller than 20 ounces.
How to decide if the soil is heavily mineralized or not... is there a test for that?
Yes there is a test, but you need a metal detector to do the test. Mineralized is the amount of iron in the soil. Perhaps ask other people who find gold what there experience is in your area.
Whatever you buy . If you take the time to learn how to use it . It will be a enjoyable Tool & Hobby . The people who learn ask .
True if you buy a detector designed with gold in mind. If you purchase a machine designed for coins and rings, you may be ignoring 80% to 90% of the gold in the ground.
Great video, thank you for what you do!
I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Fantastic information Chris..
From the land down under..
Cheers Famo59 👍🤓🍺⛏
Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the video.
How come Garrett ATX All Terrain Extreme (P/l tech) is not included amongst the best prospecting machine for "gold"? Plz comment. Thank you.
Its a decent machine, but not a great gold machine choice. Better for treasure hunting.
Can gold detectors also be used to hunt for relics?
Yes.
Thanks for the insight
My pleasure!
Sir, may know if how much does GPZ 7000 costs, so I'll know if my budget is enough to buy such?
I do not sell detectors, find someone in your country to tell you how much it costs in your country.
Well taken sir.Thank you.
Which detector is better for mountain
Not all mountains are formed of the same type of rock. Not all gold deposits in the mountains are the same. There is no one best detector.
@@ChrisRalph what can I do now
What do you think about Minelab Vanquish 540?
better for hunting coins in parks and schools.
@@ChrisRalph Thanks for the reply! Great channel! I read that the multi-IQ detects up to 40 kHz.. is there some other reason it doesn't work well for gold? My local shop sells the pro-pack with two coils.
www.minelab.com/usa/metal-detectors/vanquish-540-pro-pack
Thanks Chris, I read about some detectors , the companies write 10 or 20 meters depth of readings of detectors , is accurate? and is br 20 pro one of best in accuracy?
No 10 or 20 meters is fraud and sold by thieves. Real metal detectors detect much less depth. See my video on how deep will your detector go.
Please share the link ,of how deep detector can go.
Hello Chris, if I will be using the detector on pieces of rock that could contain gold, silver, nickel or copper which type would work the best?
Watch the video and it will help you decide. I also have other detector videos, so watch them too.
@@ChrisRalph The Gold bug seems like a good start possibly. Will the Gold bug work well on ores? I watched that video where you crushed the rocks to extract the gold. Which of your metal detectors did you discover those rocks with?
Hey Chris, what about a detector for meteorites
Meteorites are easy to detect and a cheap detector will do the trick.
@@ChrisRalph please help me decide which of these two units. Garrett Ace 300 or 400 or the Gold bug pro like you recommend. Thanks for the help. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Bro I live in southern California hot rocks everywhere I have a budget of $900 looking for a metal detector for Prospecting gold nuggets can you help me out please🙏
Either buy a GM100 and learn to deal with the hot rocks (turn down the gain, etc.) or save more and get an SDC 2300 for a couple thousand +.
What’s your opinion on the Minelab gold monster
What are you thoughts on the nox 800 for gold
A great multipurpose machine, that can work for gold, not quite as sensitive as the most detectors in this video.
Thanks for posting and sharing your knowledge; I’m from Africa want some information is there a way to contact you get some questions thanks
Sorry, no. I get many requests every day for help.
i have the at gold and i noticed you havent included it. just curious if you have tried it and what your thoughts are on it?
I've not spent any time with it, I would put it in the category of general detectors for multiple uses.
How about the terra x pro ? It goes to max 15khz. Can it detect golden nuggets?
Is the coil on the gold-bug 2 waterproof
Yes, the coil and cable are waterproof, but the control box is not.
Chris what do you think of the Equinox 800?????
Its a good detector, more of a generalist type machine for a variety of purposes, not a machine specially designed for gold.
Sir, How is this detector? AS944, Brand is SMART SENSOR ,
No good for gold nuggets.
Thank you sir, I need a advice, I watched your video. But I couldnt get some point because my english is not good, I need a buy a gold & gems detector. around 120$ , Please tell me the model. I need detect around 2-3 meters deep metals
