  • Just a tip on how to replace the latch return spring in the event of the original failing which will cause the latch not to extend fully into the strike resulting in it not being able to be locked with the key or the snib.

I have a ton of parts and junk. Then trying to find them when weather
is bad is not fun. Locksport is so much more fun. Life of a locksmith
can be tough sometimes. But I still like it. Good video Paul. 👍👍👍👍🧡

Thanks for the expo! I've found more leaver lock springs in my travels, usually with a bit of persuasion they sort them selves out unless they are completely rooted. Broke my promise and didn't email ya Apologies mate will do asap had a few personal things to take care of. Hope ya well mate! Take care Cheers :)

I have screen doors with the triple lock and cable setup. The handles are cheap zinc. One handle broke so I had to replace the entire lock with a Gainsborough one. Both being manufactured by the same company, you'd think they'd be compatible but, no, they're not. First I had trouble disconnecting the rear of the Austral lock from the cables. Then I couldn't reattach the cables to the Gainborough one.

Should have just replaced the handles from the new lockset and threw the lock itself in the bin. lol. Not sure with the blister pack locks in regard to the triple kit. The Elegance and the Ultimate are the two that are on the market under the Austral brand with the cable triple kits. HD16 and HD14.

@@crankylock7844 Bunnings don't have anything Austral. I thought of just replacing the handles and the Euro profile lock. That would have been a step up.

@@crankylock7844 If you dont like the austral locks for security doors then which ones would you recommend?

    • @crankylock7844

@@stephentsun8560 How are you mate. If your Austral is still functioning ok then i would leave it as is. If you want to change over to another brand then i would go Whitco Tasman 2. That is if your lockset is a single lock in the security door. If it's a triple locking application then you are pretty much out of luck. I am pretty sure the foot print for Austral and Whitco are different. That being said, if you are game enough to modify the triple locking bars to suit your door then that option is on the table, although not recommended. I find the Tasman 2 to be more durable and less engineered than the Austral which brings the saying less moving parts, less problems. The latest Assa Abloy Lockwood is a good option also, although in the higher price range. All in all, it's about choice. I am only expressing my experience with the locksets in point. There are people who stand by Austral and that's fine. For me, they are not my choice. Have a good one:-)

Thanks for this. I have the same tri-lock & the tongue isn’t protracting properly unless I slam the door or pull it out myself as I press the release latch.
Going to try some silicon spray on the tongue first, then might take the handle off & spray more inside.
But if I need to inspect the innards of the lock itself, your video was a great insight. Now I know the spring could be another culprit.
What brand of (tri) lock do you recommend?

@@crankylock7844 hey mate took cerclips off the handle assembly and the springs are fine however the alloy tabs that the springs push on have snapped. The handle is alloy and If I really wanted to I could get a dot of alloy welded back where the tabs were and grind them back to size but I think I will just buy a whole new system.
