I'm really sure Ian is so proud that his lifetime hero is now performing his masterpiece. Now, he's sitted on the sky's darkest cloud, smoking a cig, drinking a pint of beer and enjoying it...We miss U, bloke!!!
Everyone is afraid of the bang-bang-bang beat in the original. I don't know why. That's what made that song stick out with the drama it was about. Without bang-bang-bang it sounds like Happy Birthday To You!
Wow, it comes full circle. Ian died listening to Iggy's first solo album, The Idiot, written with and produced by David Bowie(as was Lust For Life) I do hope that Iggy tours the new album, we need at the very least, one last tour from him, Iggy? Wow his left leg injury is really hampering his movement....
I think Summer and Hook have to stop fighting over ego, they are the remnants of Joy Division need to take this into account and only that matters, they overcame worse with Ian's suicide, we just want to see them together and continuing the story there is no more time for vanities.
The entire night was amazing. I'm still on a high from it. I don't think the actual sound quality from Carnegie can be caught in recording... although thrilled to have these videos here!
Its incredible Ian Curtis killed himself listening to and Iggy Pop album and here is Iggy singing his song. I only wish he could se this and if someone was with him that night to get him thru such a difficult time. We could have more great music from Joy Division...
Iggy Pop and Ian Curtis are two of my all time favorites. Saw Iggy several times between 1979 and 2013 live on stage. Sadly I did not made it to see Ian. Coming to this video: It sucks! Some songs need no coverversions. Now I'm going to clean my ears with the original.
Because nothing has changed in their lives since that time. They are still sensitive young at heart folks playin' beautiful songs written in the garage. Everything more is rock'n'roll illusion.
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a middle school battle of the bands in a basketball court and they really thought that Iggy pop and Barnard sumner wrote this song
that's cool that iggy took the back seat for this and proper. i still would've liked it more if he would've done all the vocals here. its not that much of a departure from some of his songs on american caesar.
the concept of Iggy singing Ian’s song is cool. The execution was less than inspired. Would have loved to see Iggy sing the whole thing, but he probably didn’t know the rest and didn’t want to have to stand up there reading the lyrics
Me and my brother were at this show Iggy pop should not have been on stage And believe it or not of the total of 4 songs they did this was the best They destroyed your silent face By having a poem read over the music
I LOVE Joy Division... I LOVE New Order... I have NO problem with Iggy Pop... THIS...THIS...'version'...is...just wretched. I'm sad somebody recorded this...
TBH if Iggy Pop had kept his mouth shut during the performance and not uttered a word the song would have sounded exactly the same, he did not exactly bring anything to the performance!
Iggy looks a bit bored , thinking “so this how that pop shit goes” “ho hum “..... Until he can’t take anymore, and brings the energy to the song, With some classic iggy body gyrations and attitude.
Funny how Iggy looks like a rock star and the younger Bernard looks like his boring older uncle. Peter Hook has made a fool of himself, no doubt, but Bernard is an awful live performer anymore. Every recent video I see of Bernard Sumner, I just feel embarrassed watching him. It's an "emperor's new clothes" situation with Bernard... some patronize him, I just want to avert my eyes.
The rare thing about this footage isn't Iggy joining in on a Joy Division song, but that he's wearing some form of shirt.
HA
She took his shirt lol
So glad Iggy was a part of this. Ian would have been so happy.
He hanged himself to a stooges album, so you are 100% correct.
+no you are 100% right :-)
Jeremy Bennett the Idiot album
No! Rotating in his grave!
Yeah, you have to imagine that he'd have got a kick out of this.
I imagine Ian smiling wherever he is watching his hero singing his song :D
He's hanging out with Bilbo, Chewbacca, and Tyrion Lannister.
So awesome to see Bernard and Iggy playing this song together--what a thrill it must have been! Sounds great!
Iggy should have sung lead. He has a gorgeous voice
That's what I got excited for. Letdown.
Iggy would have saved this song!
...especially with how it's matured in his later years.
Agreed
Easier to sing a long a chorus
I'm really sure Ian is so proud that his lifetime hero is now performing his masterpiece. Now, he's sitted on the sky's darkest cloud, smoking a cig, drinking a pint of beer and enjoying it...We miss U, bloke!!!
and Ian smiles from wherever he is..
I first saw Joy Division at Eric's Liverpool in the Summer of 1978. And there's Iggy singing one of the songs.
Iggy the consummate musician with his incredible style
I would love to see Peter Hook & Iggy performing that
My thoughts exactly!
Beautiful! Bravo!

we're like crystal, we break easy
and love, love will tear us apart again
Ian would have loved this so much even if it isn't amazing to other people, he would have been excited to know Iggy did this.
very moving performance
Historic! I could have been there but I wasn't at home at the time. Damn!
I think Summer and Hook have to stop fighting over ego, they are the remnants of Joy Division need to take this into account and only that matters, they overcame worse with Ian's suicide, we just want to see them together and continuing the story there is no more time for vanities.
Iggy is amazing!!!!
So Good!

Iggy just couldn't help going...all Iggy..haha.. love it.. great post ;))
Hooky and the lights version of this shits on it from a great height!
Hooky sings it with great passion...
Yep....Barney doesn't do it justice, if anything it is a song Iggy could and should have sung the lead his voice suits it perfectly
Thanks for posting!! It's come full circle!!!
And Iggy kept his shirt on!
True artists
shoulda just let Iggy sing the whole thing
Er no ! Guess vocalist invited by the bloke who wrote the music
Consider who Ian was listening to when he hung himself . . . .
fuck i hadnt even thought about that
@@marcconsalib7325 Things are hung, people are hanged.
Good point there! 👍
grande iggy pop
i still go back to the original, but all the other,s are excellent.i just hope other people keep making new interpretations.i wish to hear them all .
I feel the same way
Heard the Swans version? It is the best cover of this song.
Carnegie Hall? It looks like they’re performing in a high school gymnasium.
Iggy Pop graced a great song
Wow.
Ok Wow!! Why not...
It's like Dad's playing their new guitars at a coffee morning. At least Hooky does it properly.
It's like a school band playing to their school but with old people. This genuinely makes me scared of ageing
Because nothing has changed in their lives since that time. They are still sensitive young at heart folks playin' beautiful songs written in the garage. Everything more is rock'n'roll illusion.
This is like Ringo Starr performing "Let It Be" with Billy Joel...except Ringo Starr sings while Billy Joel wiggles around in the background.
Just add the original synth line and you've got yourself a hit!!! Maybe release it for charity?
Great front-singer union !
Iggy as background singer? Heck, no way he'd STAY background! 😁
one day i think iggy might buy a shirt... or maybe not
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a middle school battle of the bands in a basketball court and they really thought that Iggy pop and Barnard sumner wrote this song
Canzone senza tempo 👌
most interesting version since swans 1987
I'm guessing Iggy didn't know any more of the words!
This is one of the most Ironic performances in music history. Bizarre but poetic.
that's cool that iggy took the back seat for this and proper. i still would've liked it more if he would've done all the vocals here. its not that much of a departure from some of his songs on american caesar.
Iggy is so unlike Bernard Summer, 1. he can sing, 2. he is not fake, 3 is also real.
the concept of Iggy singing Ian’s song is cool. The execution was less than inspired. Would have loved to see Iggy sing the whole thing, but he probably didn’t know the rest and didn’t want to have to stand up there reading the lyrics
Like he could not have learned them?
new order without hooky is like a new order COVER BAND
It was bernard sumner & iggy not new order
I refuse to acknowledge post-2007 New Order. They should've done the honourable thing and disbanded or renamed.
Can't agree with you, but obvs better with him.
@@dunelmian-slinger theyre a crap new order cover band Meanwhile peter hook and the light are crushing it Awesome music
@@beastieboy9286 Tom and Phil were also there so... it was 3/5ths of New Order + Iggy lol.
I wish ian Curtis could have seen this
Death will tear us apart again...
Barney shouting “Come on!” ruins it. It’s a thing that Hooky said he truly disliked about it.
Me and my brother were at this show
Iggy pop should not have been on stage
And believe it or not of the total of 4 songs they did this was the best

WilliamBurroughs on drums
So glad I've seen the real thing! This is emotionless!
I LOVE Joy Division...
I LOVE New Order...
I have NO problem with Iggy Pop...
THIS...THIS...'version'...is...just wretched.
I'm sad somebody recorded this...
this version seems to lack the energy the original used to have.....pounding base...the drums and the tempo.....
@The ABC Jug Band that's the recording. I can vaguely make the bass out, so it was probably fairly loud.
Hooky's absence
I love New Order, but Bernard Sumner still can't sing live after all these years
agreed.. this is so horrible and sloppy.. i cant believe how many likes this has.. its so bad..
rabit818 it's as nearly as bad as his lyric writing
rabit818 that's the beauty of it... He didn't have a clue what was happening.
You’re having a laugh mate
"It's better I'm gone so early before getting a silly old man!" Ian 😉
Sheesh why is Sumner singing when Iggy is up there??
apparently Iggy doesn’t know the lyrics
British bands are the best
Oh, please somebody have a better recording of this????
Que desperdicio tener a iggy pop y no dejarlo cantar toda la canción
Bernard Sumner of „New Order“… I mean even the track is from JD
does the red-head girl in the back really look like marcia cross or?
Crap sound on the camera mic. Barney wrote about this in his book, but embellished a lot on how Iggy sung his part.
Why the hell has the bassist got a capo on.
hes gonna play lead hahahahaha
Louis O'Halloran hooky would never try to be so cool.
#nohookynoneworder
Lo veo y no lo creo........
Ian Curtis descansa en paz donde quiera que estes.
No one that tries it can match Ian
maybe you had to have been there...
Iggy adelt diesen Song! Ian would be prowed!
Who is playing drums? Elvis Costello?!?!?!
it's so ironic i'm dying
Oh, how I fucking hate it when rock stars become old.......should never have watched this. No I'm gonna watch some of New Order's show in NYC in 1981.
It's not bad at all.
WTF ... Thoughts !!
My favourite idiot on my favourite song
Didn't know this existed
Iggy should been the solo vocalist.
TBH if Iggy Pop had kept his mouth shut during the performance and not uttered a word the song would have sounded exactly the same, he did not exactly bring anything to the performance!

Iggy you just kick everyone's ass.
It may seem like Hollywood bullshit but this performance is really inspiring.... 2 Legends performing together.
I wish Bernie would shut up and let Iggy sing it. I bet Ian would have too
Not really a cover when it was co-written by Sumner
Funny how Iggy looks like a rock star and the younger Bernard looks like his boring older uncle. Peter Hook has made a fool of himself, no doubt, but Bernard is an awful live performer anymore. Every recent video I see of Bernard Sumner, I just feel embarrassed watching him. It's an "emperor's new clothes" situation with Bernard... some patronize him, I just want to avert my eyes.

Bow down to the Godfather of Punk. Made in USA.
nope ... and I love Iggy
Who was that hippy in the background ? Oh, its Iggy Pop, not a good version
Iggy is "kinggy"
Ian was listening to Iggy when he took his life
