    Kinda moot since percussion caps have been 'unobtainium' for quite awhile.
    Even online they're "on back order".
    ( I'm an old shooter, and have my supply. I feel sorry for those new to black powder)

    Thank you, clear concise explanation. I've been out of muzzleloading for many years and needed a refresher. Just what I needed.

    There is no mention of which caps are best for percussion revolvers. And there are many, many more original and repro revolvers than there are long guns, so that might be helpful knowledge for persons new to black powder.

    How do I measure the nipple or what is the caliper measurement to determine if I need 11 or musket cap?

    The manual with my Ruger Old Army stainless pistol calls for # 10 caps. Do you sell them?? How's about a loading stand and double cavity ball or mini ball molds?? Need nipple wrench for my # 10 pistol and #11 for my Hawken 50 ???

      We're out of #10's and it sounds like we'll remain that way for the rest of the year. We highly recommend looking through our website. Here are some links to get you started:

    Hey, I'm an FFL manufacturer. I don't know much about percussion caps like you do. I have a lot of raw brass caps coming to me that are unprimed. I can send a few to you, if you'd like to tell me which ones would fit particular models. I could then prime caps per your recommendation on which caps will work properly and send you some for your efforts.

    Being Remington #10 percussion caps are not currently available, what is the best replacement?
    Will CCI #11 Magnum percussion caps work in my Pietta 1858 Remington?

    • @MuzzleLoaderscom
      @MuzzleLoaderscom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, #11 percussion caps will not be a good option because they are too large. There are several different brands of #10 percussion caps and any of those should work. They are difficult to find right now so I would recommend signing up for as many call back lists as possible. This will ensure that you receive a notification as soon as they are available through a supplier.

      I use No 11 CCI on my Uberti 1851 Navy and they work fine if you disfigure them a bit by pinching them before placing on the nipple.

    So I have a Traditions Hawkins 50 that says to use #11 Percussion Caps, but doesn't say Magnum. Can I safely use Magnum's on this rifle? New to Muzzle loading.

    Is there a difference in Musket Caps when it comes to the propellent used? Black Powder, RS Pyrodex, Triple Seven FFG, FFFG... And even for pellet propellents.

    • @MuzzleLoaderscom
      @MuzzleLoaderscom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Musket caps will effectively ignite most FFG black powders and black powder substitutes except for Blackhorn 209. Blackhorn has a remarkably high heat threshold so it will not ignite consistently with musket cap ignition. We have had excellent results with Pyrodex Select when used with musket cap ignition systems.

    would you happen to know what percussion caps would be best for my pietta 1861 navy .36 caliber?

      I don't have any first hand experience with that pistol, however, it should use #10 percussion caps.

      slickshot makes #11 conv nipples but its like 25 for 3 at my local sport shop so 50 per revolver, I decided not to switch my 1851s cause that

    Does anyone have insight as to why they are so hard to find

    • @freddieh5539

      CCI makes percussion caps, and also makes a lot of the primers for center fire ammo, based on what I've read. I imagine they're under a lot of pressure to make primers, and probably put percussion caps on the back burner.

      I ammo company's retool the line one month out of the year for percussion Caps and when they are gone you can't get any more until the next year now I heard Remington is not going to make anymore due to a government contract but I don't know that far sure that's what I've been hearing
