great reaction as always, and I agree with you, Band-Maid are absolutely unique. They are a real super band as in the past few existed, this is because they only make their music and that is why they can remember all these complicated passages, because no one, like, producers or financiers, interferes in the creative flow. Misa is also released by Kanami, so she can go around her bass neck as she sees fit. if you then listen to the tone and the sound of Misa's bass, it is a unique and unrepeatable sound, this is the signal of how much she studies and researches on the instrument. Akane can let herself go in those impossible rhythmic combinations of foot and hand (you listen to Corallium well in certain points it is always hitting or kicking off, I don't know how she manages without seizing her brain), but this is certainly easy for her because it is her research and her pleasure. Miku and Saiki continue to create new vocal weaves. Kanami now makes solos and riffs that are on Kanami scales, we no longer know where she goes to get the notes, one day here one day there, she explores every genre and every scale and way. the pop melodic lines, or as you say from movie theme, are beautiful and uncommon, they always have one or two notes that are signed. By now at this point, I think they are by far the best band today and even for a few decades.
Band Maid's b-sides ... Damn ... What a quality, my lord!. Ten riffs per song, with their corresponding insane bass counter-melody, different drum patterns for each section with their different drum fills to spice them up even more, crazy guitar solos with double or triple layers, depending on Kanami's desire to play hide and seek. .. and the red and blue oni demons singing BETTER THAN EVER IN THEIR LIFE. I have started to feel that many Band-Maid songs are composed like very compressed rock symphonies. Lot's of (very short) movements that are distinct but related, with themes and motifs that recur throughout. I would not be at all surprised if Kanami is applying some classical techniques to these compositions.
I think Kanami learn a lot from her classical trained friends when writing Sense. Saiki was saying Kanami uses so many classical music terms she does not know.

SAIKI: It’s been years since we started, and we have more songs in our repertoire and our own staple tunes that make people say, “these songs are unique to BAND-MAID,” so I don’t care anymore about how people label us.
The thing I really love about Band-Maid, is this wall of sound they create. I know a couple of metal bands that play incredibly dense music, but Band-Maid is the only hard rock band I know of that manages to create the same kind of atmosphere, the same kind of musical landscape as those bands. Other people find their later stuff too busy and hectic, but for me this is peak Band-Maid.
What sets them apart for me is that they can orchestrate all the layers and keep it catchy, even accessible, without it veering into noise or virtuosity just for its own sake.
I´m enjoying a lot the new stuff. Still like their earlier songs and that sound is the one that made me interested but after following for a while it's nice to see how they're evolving. The other thing is that even though the music and style is changing their quality is still there, so no matter what they do they always make something that sounds good.
To me, what makes Band Maid so special is, the way they use instruments to underpin the melody, (like a harmony), then turn it around and use the vocals to give you another riff beside the instruments. (WTF .... that sounded so much better in my head than what I wrote. I think I'm turning into a maid.)
'hibana'/'spark' is similar to 'i can't live without you' in terms 'of guitar layers. it's also got three tracks laid -- two melodies panned left and right and subtle, thick chugging chords as backdrop.
Yeah man, Band maid is a musician's wet dream. They really are a Musician's band.... But also insanely catchy. I'm starting to hear some people say that they miss the older stuff, mostly because it's more simple and therefore "catchier". The dudes who wrote for them back in the day just couldn't possibly think of shit like that.. .. Nobody can, I really hope they never cave in to the pressure, and keep on pushing each other. This is the only band I've heard that consistently blows my mind. On every new release.
I love World Domination songs the most. And I think all songs on that album were written by them, unlike Just Bring it. I already knew them from Just Bring it days but I never thought they own written songs could be better than producer written songs.

Most bands that I have known and loved in my life have been good for two or maybe three albums of great music and then are relegated to living on past glory. The Maids have not only broken that mold but shattered it to s___t. How in the world can they just continually get better and better. These are three of the most killer rock songs I have ever heard. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha...gotcha!
They are constantly testing out new things and seeking new directions for their music. So far CORALLIUM is my favouite, Saiki really brings something special to the band.
Saiki is called the Ice Queen, but reading the lyrics of Corallium shows how passionate she is!! I can't wait to see Corallium live performance. Her stage presence, charisma and aura will kill us..!!
Been waiting for this and you didn't disappoint! I'm so glad you mentioned the Gacharic Spin part, that came instantly to mind the first time I heard it. Could talk about these songs for days but one of my biggest takeaways is that Saiki has stepped up big in all three of these tracks and that's very exciting for the future.
So.. they put out an album of 12 songs, none of them bad. The put out Different and About Us, which also weren't bad. Then these 3... thats 17 KICK ASS songs in 11 months. Other than the Beatles, what other band has done that? Freaking amazing!
Different single had Don't Be Long, so make it 18. Oh wait, also Youth and Without Holding Back, so 20. And if you count the instrumentals on the BluRay which are so incredible that they are their own entities, there's 23. And I will throw in Smile (Acoustic) because it's so distinctive vs. the original, which would be 24. I would say no one else has ever had this kind of hitting streak. I could probably make a case for Guided By Voices at some point in late 90s, but Band-Maid's music is on a whole other level of ambition and execution compared to GBV. Band-Maid's music is so much more thrilling.
I keep banging on about Kanami being a musical savant but it explains so much, She is full of music. She is not an air head, she is very well versed in guitar tech - look at her pedal board - but I think she is composing all the time. How else does she keep us the work rate and deliver so many riffs and complexities. Her heart melting awkwardness of stage is perhaps another clue. I am in thrall.
Band Maid and fine wine, two things that just get better with age! Great to see Saiki spreading her wings, and Misa not far behind! Akane is still on fire on that drum kit! Love the scream from Miku! Kanami is never satisfied with the ordinary!
@@grayholloway4704 Happy Halloween to you, Gray! I'm up for a beer or two, but no horror flicks for me, maybe a war movie or two, or Alita, Battle Angel.
It doesn't matter if you listen to the songs first Ryan. Not everything has to be a first time reaction, we just like to hear your insights. "HIBAAAAAAAAANA" :)
@@xagorvangard I see what you've done there Xagor. I agree with you "Hibana's" my fav too. It's a epic slab of Hard Rock awesomeness. And if anyone disagrees it doesn't matter cos Mincho told me to say it.😏
I love what you said about how much Band-Maid throws in to one song. It reminds me of a line in the movie Amadeus. "There's too many notes!' Well of course Mozart chose very carefully what and how many notes he needed. I feel the same about Band-Maid. To give another quote, "it's just right!"
Akane activated her other two brains in her feet and started doing impossible things in her hands and feet that require the use of three brains, at least.
I am reminded of solo classical orchestration composers (I won't name names but you'd recognise them if I did). What I mean by that is that ALL of their material is truly orchestrated.... "we've got all these sounds we can use to serve the song, how do we combine them to provide the best outcome?".
A pleasure as always. It might look like I'm just admiring the shirt, but it my head all I can hear is the cool riffs, at least until Miku shakes me up. Need a rhythm section video for Hibana. For Corallium I'm itching to see Saiki in action. (Shout out for the Doctor Who gif - these songs _are_ bigger on the inside.)
17:50 That "sensory overload" feeling is specifically what I come to Band-Maid for! On the first listen there's just too much and you're kinda just washed away by it all. But if you stick around and explore it you'll find new things to love and it never gets old or too familiar.
Miku: "Hey Mincho, do you have a few minutes to work on a couple of B side tracks for our single?" Kanami: "Sure!" *Makes these two AMAZING songs* Miku: "So... Training camp again?" Kanami: "Sure!"
I love all 3, but Corallium is just stunning. It feels like the perfect summation and culmination of the incredible output of the past year, and somehow, impossibly raises the bar even more for the future. Just in disbelief about how great they are.
Feeling the same. Not that Hibana and Sense are bad, not in the slightiest, it's just Corallium is on another level of excellence imho. I can't stop playing and replaying it. I calculate in three more months of constant repetition maybe I'll absorb 1/3 of it. Freaking insane sht 🤘🕊️
As much as well all love and admire Akane for her kicks and tom work... I think her high hat work is criminally overlooked. Its not just this song. There are soooo many songs where she's just driving the beat forward with her high hat work. I think Choose Me or SML is one of the ones that always stands out to me.... now I have to go back and listen to find out which ones I was thinking of... oh the horror! :) Honestly I think Hibana is the best song on this release. Even though it was written for a specific purpose, same as Sense, it just works better in my mind. I love the main riff from Kanami. Crunchy and Miku and MISA laying down a sweet rhythm melody for Saiki and Kanami to work off of. Corallium is impressive as well. The vocals from Saiki on it are the stand out to me... as well as the lyrics of course. :)
Hahaha, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to wait listening to this just for the reaction. I think it's completely fine, there's sooooo much to deconstruct, even after 5 listens there's more than enough to talk about! Well, what can I even say... they blew me away AGAIN... over and over!! Corallium is fkin ridiculous. I wonder if I will ever experience a bad song from them!? Just like you said, HOW do they remember all these songs, Corallium alone has material for a whole album. I know how I will spend my next few days on my way to work etc., just listening to each instrument and jamming out lol I've seen your 'Asterism-Gunfire' just before this, too, didn't realize you had a reaction for it. The first song of theirs I reacted to is their 'Rising Moon' MV on the 'TOKUMAJAPAN' channel, which came out 3 years ago. If you ever have the time and mood to react to it, would love to see it! Imo they have HUGE potential!
First listen: B-M have finally gone over board-Sense too close to speed metal and Saki's song spoilt with too much pounding of the drums. Those harmonies were good though.... Needless to say, I love them both now. Quite amazing how B-M can write songs that instantly grab me and others that grow over time. Only two drawbacks: highly addictive and can spoil pleasure of other bands. Great reviews, Ryan. Thanks.
Hibana has such an awesome riff, besides Liberal it´s my favorite riff from Kanami so far, i just LOVE IT! There are for sure better songs, but that´s a TOP5 riff from Band-Maid for sure. Corallium on the other hand is cool as well, not so much my taste to be honest, but nice that SAIKI did her first own lyrics. Round about a year ago she said she is trying and wanted to make a song and here it is! Great stuff! Love all 3 songs, but Corallium is my least favorite, just a taste thing that i can´t really explain... Greetings from Germany, always looking forward to your reactions, Ryan :)
I burst out laughing when the rockets started. And then you kept it coming. Great video! I love how they spread Akane's kit out stereophonically, as it highlights how effing much she's doing in the background.
.... and Misa plays all those baselines the same whilst supping whisky. The different accents and inflections are probably just dependent on how merry she is.
oh ... you've probably seen (going by your comment) that there's a couple of brand new interviews - only a couple of days old - that's been posted on their sub-reddit. For anyone that doesn't know.
By the time my brain has caught up with what one member is doing, everything and I mean everything has changed. It leaves me open mouthed and dumbfounded in the best possible way.
After listening to the other 2 more, they sound better and better. I thought they all just as good, but now I listen to Corallium again and... yep it's still the best for me.
I just had a crazy thought. I wonder what an acoustic version of Corallium would sound like. Sort of like Puzzle. However, in this acoustic version, you'd need both Saiki and Miku singing. Thoughts anyone?
you know something I've been pondering: I wonder if the fact that Kanami basically trained her own rhythm guitarist from scratch gives her alot more song writing freedom.
Somehow, can't help wondering if they'd ever appear at "Big Sight" show in Tokyo !!!----what a festival opener that could be---and not even confined to music ,but all the arts !
Rewatching this tonight, it strikes me how critical the vocal melody is to pulling everything together. It almost seems like if you dropped the vocals the instrumentation wouldn’t mesh - wouldn’t sound like a cohesive song. But, ofc, it would because Kanami is a musical genius; as I guess are the other four, too. Because if they weren’t all freaking geniuses they’d never be able to contribute their parts nor write these crazy incredible vocals that somehow combine with these crazy instrumental parts to create such an amazing work of rock music. Lol 😂 Yeah, it’s freaking perplexing and freaking awesome 👏🏼🤷🏻♂️ Cheers! 😎
@@grayholloway4704 Craft beer might interfere with how you remember things and what actually happened. I too have faint memories of a chapel in Vega, but as I recall, I married all the 5 maids at ones. However, someone else took them all on a honeymoon trip and left me behind. MISA has always said that Vegas as the reason she shifted from Bourbon to beer. It could be related to the same evening. Her bass tone sure got deeper after that.
I suggest Sense is a teaser for what's gonna be on their next album. They usually put out an album every 12 months or so. I reccon they are already hard at work recording songs for their new album. Can't wait for the new album, at least I have got Sense CD and DVD to listen to while waiting for more awsomeness from my favorite band of all times.

You're right the second verse of Coralluim really reminds me of Gacharic spin, the slap bass rhythm (similar to Koga's iconic slap bass riffs) and the singing (similar style to Angelina from Gacharic Spin)
*_Band-Maid are a beautiful complex simplicty of an initially seeming simple musically stunning complexity._* Every listening finds nearly always something more to each of our ears, what appears a trope formula is merely a parody of it; ..as they pull multiple influences, styles, genres and compositional creations into a beautiful audible recipe that always has something unexpected, ..that yet in hindsight, feels natural, and begs to question why other bands can seem to wimp-out to their studio-overlords, while putting in less effort than which B-M to do.
@@RyanMear ..apologies to triangles, ..lol, ..I tend to edit my comments as I boil down & condense what I'm trying to say/write, with the initial comment being more a general placeholder of thoughts and a pin-point of the/that comment location.
Just to get me outta my ignorance, what would you say is Corallium's genre? I've been thinking for a while but can't properly classify it. Maybe just put it on the Band-Maid genre(? 🤘🕊️
Lets take everything complicated from Unseen World, vocal layering from Black Hole, Dragon Cries and Daydreaming, the passion from Puzzle, and throw that into a blender. Now crank things to 11 and add a dash of lyrical spice from Saiki. Then place it as a B-Side track. This trio of songs is a whole meal for the ears. Sense is bold appetizer, Hibana the solid, full, main course, finishing with a masterpiece of a desert in Corallium. Corallium is such a masterpiece of music. This eclipses Sense for me, in all aspects.
I am in a minority that actually would put Corallium in third spot out of the three on the CD. But that just means it is still head and shoulders above anything else anybody else is doing.
I like that you admitted to already hearing songs when you have. It’s better than trying to bullshit a fake reaction. I’m watching for your commentary as a fellow musician. -Rick from Indy.
The old geezer I am may be allowed to utter it: A simple explanation for Misa's virtuosity and unending range? Classical musical education! Mind you, that also goes for Kanami and Akane! LOL

Muttley, Jeff Goldblum and Doctor Who in one reaction video. Cool :) There's one tiny noise in Corallium that intrigues me - it's a high pitch almost metallic oscilliating squeak. Only lasts a second or two. Used twice I think. No idea why it's there but it is.

In sum: This band has legit rewired my neural pathways. All three songs are friggin' brilliant.
In a way it makes most other music slightly dull, they have ruined me in a good way.
@@bartyslattfast I totally hear you there!
Yes!
Yes!
Band Maid and fine wine, two things that just get better with age! Great to see Saiki spreading her wings, and Misa not far behind! Akane is still on fire on that drum kit! Love the scream from Miku! Kanami is never satisfied with the ordinary!
My wine doen't have time to age much, it gets emptier pretty quick after uncorking.😏
@@grayholloway4704 Stack 'em deep! Stay safe, Gray(Gary)!

@@grayholloway4704 Happy Halloween to you, Gray! I'm up for a beer or two, but no horror flicks for me, maybe a war movie or two, or Alita, Battle Angel.
@@waynebenedict5785 +1 Alita, Battle Angel. Great movie!
It doesn't matter if you listen to the songs first Ryan. Not everything has to be a first time reaction, we just like to hear your insights. "HIBAAAAAAAAANA" :)
True
But then we don't get the "Holy shit, man!" ...lol
@@motley22crue HAHA. Yep that's true, i didn't consider that.😆
Corallium is good but Hibana is my fave in this CD. It's such a "Spark". 💥✨
Liking the Doctor Who analogy Paul.👍
NICE!
my fav part "Gun SHot shot Gun SHot shot Gun shot shot, Gun shotx3 "
17:50 That "sensory overload" feeling is specifically what I come to Band-Maid for! On the first listen there's just too much and you're kinda just washed away by it all. But if you stick around and explore it you'll find new things to love and it never gets old or too familiar.
Miku: "Hey Mincho, do you have a few minutes to work on a couple of B side tracks for our single?"
Kanami: "Sure!" *Makes these two AMAZING songs*
Miku: "So... Training camp again?"
Kanami: "Sure!"
Kanami: What is a B-side?
Yeah, how in the heck are they playing any of these 3 songs live? I can’t imagine how they’d sound like the recordings. Crazy ambitious!! 🤯😱😀
Does "B" stand for Bonanza ??------or Blitz ?---or just Brilliant ???? !
I don't think I've seen you this happy in your other reactions. This song is surprisingly beautiful.
I hope they release an instrumental version of Hibana. All of them really, but Hibana has some catchy little riffs under the vocals.
good lord that is a wonderful single
spine tingles all the way through corrallium
and the riffs are just insane
As much as well all love and admire Akane for her kicks and tom work... I think her high hat work is criminally overlooked. Its not just this song. There are soooo many songs where she's just driving the beat forward with her high hat work. I think Choose Me or SML is one of the ones that always stands out to me.... now I have to go back and listen to find out which ones I was thinking of... oh the horror! :)
Honestly I think Hibana is the best song on this release.
Oh yeah.. those shouts from Miku... they make the song.
I know how I will spend my next few days on my way to work etc., just listening to each instrument and jamming out lol
I've seen your 'Asterism-Gunfire' just before this, too, didn't realize you had a reaction for it.
The first song of theirs I reacted to is their 'Rising Moon' MV on the 'TOKUMAJAPAN' channel, which came out 3 years ago. If you ever have the time and mood to react to it, would love to see it!
Imo they have HUGE potential!
That you reacted to?
@@RyanMear Oh, I just meant watch/react in my own time. Didn't have the time and balls yet to make my own reaction channel, I guess lol
love it and the complexity
First listen: B-M have finally gone over board-Sense too close to speed metal and Saki's song spoilt with too much pounding of the drums. Those harmonies were good though.... Needless to say, I love them both now. Quite amazing how B-M can write songs that instantly grab me and others that grow over time. Only two drawbacks: highly addictive and can spoil pleasure of other bands.
Great reviews, Ryan. Thanks.
Band Maid rules the musical universe! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Spot on for that "Hibana" riff, I was wondering what does it recall me of. John Murphy score from 28 Days Later "In the House - In a Heartbeat" 👌🏻
Screaming hide and seek and now corallium
I legit get more excited about the b-sides when I see a new B-M single now
Unfair Game!
I burst out laughing when the rockets started. And then you kept it coming. Great video!
I love how they spread Akane's kit out stereophonically, as it highlights how effing much she's doing in the background.
Dear Ryan Mate!
A biiiiig thanks for reacting!
Best regards,
Robert-Gilles
No problem, you know I'm having fun!
@18:40 The memes are getting better and better! 😂😂😂
It's really a pleasure to watch your videos.
.... and Misa plays all those baselines the same whilst supping whisky.
Yes! I was really hoping we'd get to the other two songs that went with Sense.
I learn so much from your videos - thank you
Kanami's brain is wired differently to most people when it comes to music theory. She seldom follows the rules. Bless her cotton socks.
Perfect !---including her cotton socks.
you know something I've been pondering: I wonder if the fact that Kanami basically trained her own rhythm guitarist from scratch gives her alot more song writing freedom.
Yepp, Miku didn’t know how to play guitar before Saiki joined the band.
MISA was going off during Kanami's Corallium solo. She was just going off the whole time really.=)
There are some songs that change so drastically musically, that Saiki's vocal is the only thing to let you know it is the same song
Oh no! This has been up for nine minutes and I just got here!
Too much craft beer i tells ya.🥴
@@grayholloway4704 You sound very much like my wife! Are you sure we are not married?
@@nussekuddenxxx6564 LOL. Hmm🤔 i don't think so, but i have a faint memory of a chapel in Vegas. Does that jog your memory?😆
@@nussekuddenxxx6564 Lol. Damn is that what happened. But i still have this ring & if it's not from you then who the hell did i marry.😮
Finally, I get to hear you review Snap and Corallium. :-P
BTW: I don't know if you are in Band Maid Prime. Probably the best place to glimpse some signature tricks of the girls and learn some of their music. I think you would love it.
You're right the second verse of Coralluim really reminds me of Gacharic spin, the slap bass rhythm (similar to Koga's iconic slap bass riffs) and the singing (similar style to Angelina from Gacharic Spin)
Mincho is The Riffinator X10🤘
That's cool! 😆👍👍👍
*_Band-Maid are a beautiful complex simplicty of an initially seeming simple musically stunning complexity._*
Every listening finds nearly always something more to each of our ears, what appears a trope formula is merely a parody of it;
..as they pull multiple influences, styles, genres and compositional creations into a beautiful audible recipe that always has something unexpected,
..that yet in hindsight, feels natural, and begs to question why other bands can seem to wimp-out to their studio-overlords, while putting in less effort than which B-M to do.
Hypotenuse!
It's BAND-MAID. That is the only classification that fits
I was going to say. I'm getting "hints" of Gacharic Spin in Corallium .... and I like it! (LOTS)
Great mini album. These 3 songs is a banger. I like bandmaids direction.
I like that you admitted to already hearing songs when you have. It’s better than trying to bullshit a fake reaction. I’m watching for your commentary as a fellow musician. -Rick from Indy.
lol, they need to do a song for Dr Who. Thank you Ryan Mear. Love these girls.
The old geezer I am may be allowed to utter it:
A simple explanation for Misa's virtuosity and unending range?
Classical musical education!
Mind you, that also goes for Kanami and Akane! LOL
Saiki gets her first songwriting credit. MISA will follow shortly. Sacramento loves Band-Maid. And Sai-chan.
Great insight! Thank you
Dear Ryan Mate!
More important news for you!
We broke through the 100-contaminations floor today!
Only 86 cases for the whole of Japan (125 million souls) and only 9 for Tokyo (13 million souls)!
Expect the real live concerts by the beginning of January!
They might write a song about it! "We squished the beast under millions of Akane's beats"?
Long live Band Maid and You!

Glad to hear it.... better than us....ugh
I liked the poster. Here I am. I think I like this better than sense. Unlike Via, I like it heavy. Your melting face from IJ cracks me up.
I want an extended Corallium remix and I wanna get on the floor.
I've had it, this is the last straw, I've decided that I'm going in for some gene editing treatments to see if I can grow at last three more ears and new brain regions to properly listen to Band-Maid.
CORALLIUM feels a lot of potential.
Band maid is another next level above everyone else
Muttley, Jeff Goldblum and Doctor Who in one reaction video. Cool :) There's one tiny noise in Corallium that intrigues me - it's a high pitch almost metallic oscilliating squeak. Only lasts a second or two. Used twice I think. No idea why it's there but it is.
He tricked us in the best possible way! Edit: (Just realized It's Halloween, so you could call this a trick with a treat).
Band Maid doing Band Maid things.
Can you imagine the next album...
Band Maid just keep it going making shit that every musician blows their minds..🤘😅👍
Kanami trying to prove that their are an infinite number of great Riffs!
Hibana, my new fav song...love saiki powerful voice

MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃
i love your reactions, but, you comment on Corallium that in one section that this is the only time Band Maid reminded you of another band," Gacharic Spin".Well,i think if you listen ,"Beauty and the Beast" (2015),off the New Beginning album, you'll find that Gacharic Spin sound like Band Maid. :)
Saiki either learned about lyric writing from Miku or is teaching her about songwriting. Corallium is a masterpiece which shows a vulnerable side to Saiki's tsun tsun/ tsun dere attitude
