Also works with my windows10 on my lenovo laptop. although i must mention that the mouse kept on hanging. i double checked my bluetooth settings and there i could see that it always disconnected and then connected again. like in every 3-10 seconds. this hanging issue has nothing to do with the mouse itself. the problem was with win10 (like 99% of the time) you have to go: control panel-> devices and printers, right click on the connected mx master 3 for mac, click properties, click hardware tab. Here, there are bunch of functions listed. Double click each, then click on the change settings button (with admin icon) and look for power management tab. click power management tab. uncheck the checkbox where it says that windows can deactivated the device for powersaving purposes. voila issue is gone, enjoy laggfree mx master 3 for mac on windows btw i am not using any dongles, only my built in bluetooth coming with the laptop. ofc if u wish to be able to connect another BT device at the same time to ur laptop (like a headset) it might get problematic as the mouse will take a BT slot without the dongle. Damn, here I found it for 30 euro's cheaper compared to the 'normal' MX master 3. I bought it straight away, because I have been wanting to buy this mouse for a year already, but at 110 euro it was too expensive. Just noticed a 'for mac' version and then wanted to know the difference, hence stumbled upon you video. But no dongle, and 30 euro's cheaper, awesom! Thank you for this short and clear difference video, I always appreciate these, especially when they don't jab on on things that aren't really of importance and just add time to their video's!
In my opinion, one should go with the original unless you really want that sliver trim. The USB receiver may seem useless until you actually need it one day. I use a Mac and owned the original MX Master and now own the MX Master 3. There have been situations where there is some interference that causes the mouse to glitch a bit which the wireless receiver usually solves. Also if you’ve ever had to troubleshoot your Mac or reinstall MacOS, you will know that Bluetooth doesn’t work under these conditions. Sure using the wireless receiver at this point requires a dongle but in my opinion, having the option of doing so is much simpler.
The Bluetooth is supposed to be upgraded in the Mac version so connectivity should be less of an issue. They also include a USB-C cable for when you need a hard connection.
Ok, so I've tried both models and what I've realized is that the PC model feels more SOLID especially the button clicks. So I'm sticking with the PC model and returned the Mac model.
Are you using the PC version with a Mac? Apparently it's a laggy experience whereas the Mac version seems to have upgraded bluletooth connectivity. I primarily use Mac but also have a work PC - tend to switch between the two multiple times in the day, so a little torn about which one to go for. Was thinking PC version but concerned about some of the reviews mentioning lag when using it with a mac.
I was thinking about that too, but just found this video (th-cam.com/video/EssUCHb2KJk/w-d-xo.html) that shows that it works on iPad as well. It seems it's just Apples marketing
Good review and I also want to report something that does not work on the MX Master 3 For Mac. Given it has the "For Mac" one would expect it works flawlessly with a MacBook Pro (I tested with the 2015, 2018 and M1) but not so fast. A very important function is not work. As you mentioned it does not come with the unifying receiver, so bluetooth is the only option. Also my M1 laptop has only 2 ports and they are taken up by the charger and monitor. With a mouse connected I want to disable the trackpad. System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Pointer control -> Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present -> check it and... trackpad still works. Installing Options software makes no difference. I have a ticket open with Logitech after I discovered that a 30 dollar Microsoft mouse works as expected. I don't think Logitech will ever fix this annoyance, because with the trackpad on I keep touching the trackpad while typing and the cursor jumps all over the place. The mouse is otherwise fantastic and connecting to the iPad and MacBook is seamless.
@@bowietan4351 It is no longer an issue as long as you are using the new "universal control" feature of macOS and iPadOS. Use any mouse and seamlessly move cursor from one device to another.
Great short video! But I have a kinda ridiculous question: Can you pair the Mac-version with the dongle? There's a Logitech Software for this process...I have many dongles from previous Logitech mice, so thanks for an answer
I already have the MX 3 and was wondering if I should change to the Mac version. This video confirms a few things....I guess I’ll just keep it now. Thanks for the video
Everyone should get the Mac version, way better!! I have a Windows PC I use for work, a MacBook, and an iPad Pro for personal use and it works seemlesly on ALL of them, one less dongle to worry about.
I accidently ordered the mac version and thought they sent the wrong one when it arrived. I luckily already had the unifying receiver as I had the MX Master and so I tried it out anyway and it also works perfectly fine for me. The only other thing is the cable is USB-C at both ends but my laptop has a USB-C port and I also have a Samsung Note 10+ so have charging brick with USB-C port in. Only other difference is that it's got MX master 3 for mac on the bottom and in the software.
I saw the Mac version in an online store, and both sell for the same price. On Logi's website, the Mac version appears €10 more expensive. They seem to fully embrace the Apple philosophy: fewer features, more money.
Now that MacBooks and all come with many ports, kinda odd that the dongle is missing, and Microcenter sells both at same price, lol, what? It connects to 3 devices, but apparently using it on a non-bluetooth windows or linux is... better? Great review, thanks for pointing this out, because I just bought one for my M1 Pro Macbook 14", and glad I got the regular version so that I can switch to mutliple devices in my office, including an older water cooled win10 machine with zero bluetooth! Woo, dodged a bad purchase there! Great job, and thanks for that heads up!
I just need back and forward buttons to work with iPad!!! I use jump desktop on ipad to connect to windows. I want the ability to customize buttons on iPad!!!
BTW: The Mac version WORKS with the Unifying Reciever... So they literally just removed the USB receiver and did nothing but change the color... * it sucks because mac has EMI interference issues, Bluetooth in certain scenarios is unusable! the only way to solve the problem is to take an extension cord and move the unifying receiver about 2meters away from the mac... so it's the opposite, it's the mac version is not meant for mac, it should be the "economical version".
Yeah this is so confusing to me. I've heard a lot about Bluetooth issues with Mac devices, so why would they release a Mac mouse that only has Bluetooth?
What i found out from my experience is Bluetooth connections with apple product is quite strong as compared to windows because of the quality and standards. I have boat earbuds but in windows connection drop happens but with macbook it's just awesome. So at the end doesn't matter which third-party cheap device you have apple Bluetooth connectivity is better than windows, linux you name it.
I think the reason on why it still works in windows is because of bluetooth. some older windows machines do not have bluetooth and so external devices must be connected with usb. same for linux ecosystems, as linux is known for having issues with bluetooth. Since the version "for mac" does not include usb dongle, they cannot claim that it works for windows. it stills stupid on their behalf to claim that it is not compatible for windows based on this.
One major difference needed to be mentioned, either the Mac version will be possible to get connected to a unifying USB or not via logi unifying app? The regular USB unify can support up to 6 devices to be unified to it
Well the honest truth is that there is no software limitation/compatibility for mouse and keyboards. I know someone that uses a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse with his Mac studio and it works perfectly fine without any issues. Many things are in fact cross platform compatible even if it is not stated on the websites etc
Got the original MX Master myself. Got the MX Master S2 for work.. have to say I prefer the original. Feels better put together. Wondering how the 3 feels.
I just ordered my MX Master 3 yesterday and today I find out that there is a special version for mac! Can I use the regular version with my mac without problems?
I had a lot of lag, especially when using the scroll wheel with the MX Master 3 on a Mac Pro. The Mac version has no lag and works flawlessly. I could not honestly recommend the non-MAC version if you are using it on MAC.
Now. the real question... Could the mac version pair to the dongle IF you wanted it to? I honestly love the color scheme for the mac version over the windows one.
Question about compatibility of the MX Master Mac version (given it doesn't list Windows compatibility but works on Windows)... did you test if it can 'flow' between a Windows and Mac computer as well, including copying and pasting? Thanks.
mx master for mac is basically the regular mx master with two tone color. change the charging cable, remove the receiver dongle, slap "mac" on it then bam you got a new product with the same price of regular mx master.
Remove a dongle and charge the same price, brilliant. Bluetooth connection is far inferior compared to bluetooth connections, especially if you use your Macbooks connected to external monitor and its cover closed.

yeah for sure cuz you know logitech are too braindead to figure out a black product should be on a white box so you can you know see it.
This comparison is really helpful!
Much more important, I think you forgot to tell that, the Mac version is compatible with the iPad the other one isn’t.
I was thinking about that too, but just found this video (th-cam.com/video/EssUCHb2KJk/w-d-xo.html) that shows that it works on iPad as well. It seems it's just Apples marketing
@@paulwatrobski8277 yes they both do
Very helpful video. Helped me to decide which version to buy.
Answered all the important questions I had! Thank you very much! I actually didn’t come across videos that did comparisons so I really appreciate it👍
you should have had better questions.
The review I was loking for. Thanks!
I've ordered my MX3 in 'Mid Grey' - looking forward to it
You forgot to mention the included cable differences
Thanks Phillip, great review! Covered all the points I wanted to know.
I bought the graphite MX master 3 and Keys and they look super light, wish mine looked more like yours where it looks almost black.
One important feature of Mac version that is NOT in regular version is that former works with iPadOS while latter doesn't.
the regular version cant work on IPADos ?
@@bowietan4351 It is no longer an issue as long as you are using the new "universal control" feature of macOS and iPadOS. Use any mouse and seamlessly move cursor from one device to another.
Great short video! But I have a kinda ridiculous question: Can you pair the Mac-version with the dongle? There's a Logitech Software for this process...I have many dongles from previous Logitech mice, so thanks for an answer
That is exactly what I was wondering too!
This is a great review, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
get the usb dongle. the bluetooth mode stutters sometimes. with usb dongle, it has never stutter
Thanks for this comparison review! Well done! 👨🏽💻 👍🏽
Thanks for clear all my doubts! cheers!
Thanks for the simple comparison
I already have the MX 3 and was wondering if I should change to the Mac version. This video confirms a few things....I guess I’ll just keep it now. Thanks for the video
Everyone should get the Mac version, way better!!
I have a Windows PC I use for work, a MacBook, and an iPad Pro for personal use and it works seemlesly on ALL of them, one less dongle to worry about.
I prefer the normal version because I like the exclusive colors and the adapter for when I am in an operating system that doesn’t support Bluetooth
Still rocking the MX master1 from 2016 !
You simply do not have a price, thanks for the clarification!
So no real difference at all. Same price, different colour and missing dongle. Thanks for the vid.
I read that the Mac version is compatible with the iPad. Is the non-Mac version compatible with the iPad? Thanks for the review!
I saw the Mac version in an online store, and both sell for the same price.
On Logi's website, the Mac version appears €10 more expensive. They seem to fully embrace the Apple philosophy: fewer features, more money.
I am glad it works with PC as well. I thought I had screwed up..The mac version was cheaper and I didn't notice it was the mac version.
Great comparison!! thank you for the review.
justo la review que necesitaba! grax!
thank you sir. it is so detailed that I gotten the non-mac version.
Thanks for your precious explanations.
If you don't care about the color regular one is obviously the better choice right?
Great review mate - very helpful!
Simply put, no nonsense. Thanks
I just need back and forward buttons to work with iPad!!! I use jump desktop on ipad to connect to windows.
I want the ability to customize buttons on iPad!!!
great informative video! thanks dude
thank you for this video men, I just bought the mx 3 original and I was wondering what was the difference with the mac version.
Nice video man you did a great job
Thank you so much, it helped me to make an easier decision.
Great! Thanks
One major difference needed to be mentioned, either the Mac version will be possible to get connected to a unifying USB or not via logi unifying app? The regular USB unify can support up to 6 devices to be unified to it
Thank you! So both work on Mac OS and Windows, the difference is the usb dongle and the cable ... and the color ... ahh ... : )
Thanks for the review!👍🏻
Did you like the craft keyboard ? Was it worth it or just get Mx? Subbed much love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
So no differences, unless the lack of the dongle and USB C to USB C cable. LOL
And the white box that Apple fanboys are drawn to :D
I just bought the normal version for my MacBook and with this video I realized that there is a specific version for Mac... 😓
Does the normal version work on mac?
Got the original MX Master myself. Got the MX Master S2 for work.. have to say I prefer the original. Feels better put together. Wondering how the 3 feels.
Good video, thanks, sill buy the right one now.
Do you know if that is the case?
Can we use the original version of the MX Master 3 to IpadOS ?
Question about compatibility of the MX Master Mac version (given it doesn't list Windows compatibility but works on Windows)... did you test if it can 'flow' between a Windows and Mac computer as well, including copying and pasting? Thanks.
Yeah I wanna know that 2 cause I'm more interested in the mac version for my pc
You solved all my doubts, thanks man!!
Wonderful review😎
Does the Mac Mouse recognize a Unify USB if I already have one?
Thank for your sharing to make me clear
Thank you for this video. All I need to know for the keywords I typed for.
mx master for mac is basically the regular mx master with two tone color. change the charging cable, remove the receiver dongle, slap "mac" on it then bam you got a new product with the same price of regular mx master.
Remove a dongle and charge the same price, brilliant. Bluetooth connection is far inferior compared to bluetooth connections, especially if you use your Macbooks connected to external monitor and its cover closed.
I have the MX3 regular and Keys regular, but they look like the Mac version on your comparisons, with space grey accents.
