  • In Episode 28 I will have a look at a stockbook I bought a few weeks ago. I paid 16 euros for this, was it a good buy? I will also have a look at 2 catalogues and compare them a bit.
Feel free to leave a comment, like and subscribe. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris, wow, I think you got an excellent deal on the stockbook and stamps. And I love to seeing the Gibbons Concise catalogue. I agree with you, GB can be challenging to find nice light cancels. I get frustrated with the smudge cancels too.
That's a neat idea to decide to fill two stockbooks and say that's your cutoff date. I hadn't considered that before. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Mark. The cancels are really a thing indeed. But then also a nice challenge to find good or even acceptable cancellations. Think I am very spoiled with other countries I collect like Luxembourg and Germany, who have generally really nice cancellations.
I have thought about collecting a country often in a way to do it all or nothing. Then I read about people doing things differently, and moving awat from the 'traditional' ways to collect. I think setting a cut-off point really helps me and in this way I can still collect some nice GB stamps.

Nice stock book of GB stamps and a good buy on the SG catalogue. For GB, I have Davo albums to 2000 and am slowly completing it. After 2000, I just buy what I like and will put them in Vario sheets. For instance, I just ordered the new weather forecasting issues.

Hi Jeff. The SG catalogue was a really good buy. I think the two catalogues can compliment eachother very well. I tend to gravitate towards Michel, but like I said in the video, it is what I am used to. There is definitly parts of the SG catalogue that Michel does not cover.
I just checked the presentation pack for the stamps you mentioned. Looks really nice and an interesting topic really.

Great looking stock book. I can see a few in there that I've got as well. Thanks for the share. Have an awesome day!! From Fun At Home (Hot Wheels, Lego, Cards, Stamps & collectables)

HI.... yes, you got a good deal on that stockbook and those stamps. I would have gladly paid a bit more for what you got. As for those heavily cancelled stamps, my own rule is to keep the best for collection until a better stamp comes along.....

Hi, thanks for commenting! That is a good piece of advice. I generally do not like placeholders, and when browsing quickly through what I have, it can gives the impression I have more stamps than I have, if that makes sense. In other words: the stamps I have are the ones I would keep, not seeking a replacement. Then again I contradict myself a bit too, because sometimes I buy a few stamps just because the cancellation is a bit better.

I think you made a wonderful purchase. You recieved a lot of nice stamps for very little spent. Of course, it isn't the amount of money spent that determines value. It is the hours and hours spent sorting and organizing that makes it worth it. I use SG for my Great Britain and Australia collections, FACIT for my Scandinavian collections, Unitrade for Canadian and Scott for the rest. I don't particularly like Scott but it is the most easily used here in the USA. Thank you for a great video.

Hi Chris, I think you got a good deal, the pre decimal stamps are quite nice, I have hundreds of great britain stamps spares ( another to send to you lol ).
The catalogue is good, I use stanley gibbons numbers a lot and find them OK.
To find plate numbers look in centre left or right, sometimes hard to see.

Hi Jerry. I would be really interested in GB stamps, but I do have quite some already. Will take me a while to organise. I think when trading catalogue numbers can be really helpful but not essential I guess. Plate numbers are not too hard I think on the penny reds. Need a good magnifying glass I think. The penny reds are really interesting to collect. Do you have many?

Hi Chris! You have a good accumulation of GB stamps there, including the catalogues to have an excellent start with your GB collection. I have a hard time with evaluating Euro prices, but I think, including a stock book which seems to be in great condition, Euro 16 seems to be a good price. The stamps therein, also being sets, are very worth while, I think.
Just more or less starting out, I find it extremely difficult to limit myself to focus collections, both countries and themes. There are definitely world wide collectors, but I guess then one can not really have a specialized collection of each country.
Thanks for the video. Very interesting to see your way of thinking and starting a new collection. It helps me with decisions as well.

Hi Charnie. I should've put on screen the different conversions. I believe it is 28,45 NZ Dollars for the stockbook and stamps. It is nice that there is complete sets in it. You tend to see that more with mint sets. I like completing sets though, but these stamps give me a very nice start.
It is hard to focus, but maybe one should ask if you need to focus or 'limit' yourself. Sure it will be harder to specialise, but again, should you specialise?
I am glad the video helped you. :-)

🙂Yes, it is all about getting to know your own preferences and what you really want to do. 🙂 You didn't have to give the exchange conversions. I should have looked it up for myself. I just wanted to explain I cannot really judge the price. 🙂Enjoy your weekend!!!!@@chrislovesstamps
