I like the set up and the information you provide. Well done Chris.
Hi Daniel. Thanks for the compliment. I think the start is really confusing where I mess up between when I say 'episode' and 'part'. I didn't notice that when editing unfortunately.
Extremely interesting !!! Thanks so much - I did not know a lot of the history of Canada depicted in the stamps !!!
Hi Jeff. Me neither. The more I learn, the more I realise how little I know. I really enjoy reading up on a country's history through stamps.
👏👏👏 I don’t have any canadian collection at the moment, but this is definitely helpful. Good pointers to remember once I decide to start on this area.
Hi. Thanks for commenting! As you probably can tell, I like Canadina stamps. I think you will like the definitives also as there is quite a few to collect with quite some varieties. I love your 2 videos about the Penny Red and the Helvetia one! Nicely edited!
Nice collection Chris, i have a lot of Canadian stamps to sort myself.
I really love Canadian stamps. A bit more pre-2000, than after. But the more classic ones have really good designs. I have duplicates as you can see. I could send a few alongside what I was about to send you this week.
Interessant weer en een geweldige bonus!,
Hoi Camiel.
Thank you for another great video, Chris. I said it before, but I really like your format and structure for the videos. I would not know about your other viewers, but I personally love the information you give with the stamps.
9:26 You are right, just a bit of extra info:
The Boers, also known as Afrikaners, are a South African ethnic group descended from Dutch, German, and French Huguenot settlers. The term "Boer" comes from the Afrikaans word for "farmer". (I am an Afrikaner. 🙂)
There were two Boer Wars in South Africa. The First Boer War took place from 1880-1881 (won by the Boers). The Second Boer War took place from 1899-1902. Both wars were fought between the British Empire and the Dutch settlers (Afrikaners or Boers).
The British Army won the second Boer War. The British used controversial tactics, including scorched-earth policies and appalling concentration camps in which mainly women and children were incarcerated, to defeat the Boers.
Hi Charnie. Thank you for the additional information about the Boer Wars. I thought boer is the Dutch word for farmer. When I read up about it, I also read about the concentration camps. I saw a picture of Lizzie van Zyl. Horrific. I should've investigated it more when I made the episode so I would have actually known what the Bier Wars were about, instead of editing it in. Thanks for watching and your comment!
Hi Chris - not for one moment did I think you should have known anything about "Boers" and the "Boer wars" when you worked through the stamps for the episode!!!! You cannot know everything in the world! I just replied to that because I am so closely involved in the history and am a South African! I know FAR less than you when I make an episode about stamps. 🙂@@chrislovesstamps
The concentration camps that the British used were horrible. Up to two thirds of the children and one third of the women died.
It was bitterly sad! @@danielste-marie779
