Im fairly certain i've seen this sort of thing before. What I think has happened is the backlash for how Adventures were handled mechanically has bled into fear into how to handle the story. As a result, Rare is likely in a moment of fear trying to wipe the entire adventure storyline away to replace it with what they know works. The dripfeed world changes and possibly tall tales in the future.
Could make her serve flame heart that's a twist none would expect because heroes winning and evil always losing is an over used trope the reapers have way better cosmetics than Athena
@@ServatoflaughterProblem: She's a tall tale character. Therefore, due to game design, she's locked in where she is. Her in-game character can't leave the tavern for any reason whatsoever.
The fact is this, once Rare decided to merge Monkey Island into SoT’s story line, they completely lost the “way” trying to give a sense to the existence in game of those three stories… the fact is, monkey island should have NEVER been part of SoT’s story arc. Pirates of the Caribbean was well written and merging it with SoT’s story made somehow sense, but with monkey island it just does not work. I hope they understand this and go back to the original script. That must be somehow connected to that temple made by tasha.

I hope flameheart manages to get the blade before tasha gets it and it puts flameheart back to his human form, making the ferryman not recognise him and allow him to allways return
honestly never really gotten fully into the story of Sea of thieves.. I mean it did kinda sound interesting in the beginning.. just problem that all story in game was behind adventures and tall tales, and most tall tales are really boring to go through. So staying interested in it have been hard. Only thing I find interesting with the story is Flamehearts story and seeing his return. majority of the lore is so confusing so its hard to really get into it, it was easier to understand World of Warcraft story then Sea of thieves.
Didn’t Flameheart already return in a sense? His soul his technically in the Sea of Thieves right now right? Hence the big spooky shadow during the Skelly curse? Based off of the post adventures I was under the impression that his soul is back in his sarcophagus and he’s cooking until fully baked?
i just realized, with the Temple in Tasha's Journal and the implied ending it would of had either eternal life, or to be cursed (become a ghost/phantom, or become a skeleton) depending on your actions through the quest it would of had 1 of 2 different outcomes which Hourglass has now STOLEN from us....
Ay, imagine if Rare added a monster figurehead to the pirate emporium from the adventure, and the door leading to its lair trinket too instead of actually adding them to the game world🙃
Ok, so this is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but thank god they're doing ANYTHING with the story. You know what would be great about Flameheart coming back because Guybrush slipped on a banana peel? Flameheart would be back. My experience in the sandbox would be improved, and while the story would enhance my experience of a tall tale or two, the story has very little to do with my everyday gaming experience.
I guess everyone is busy working on the PlayStation version…… I’m sure it’ll be alright in the end once Flameheart returns just to shout at the players
I hope this is like a backfire plan, like it doesn't work and then they HAVE to find the ruins and everything, if that isn't the plan I hope they make it the plan, feel like it's not too late to turn things around, not past that point of no return yet
You know what’s interesting about Tasha’s mothers memory loss? Is that the Skeletal tavern keeper in the Reapers lair says essentially the same thing, she has no recollection of her death and believes she’s the tavern keeper in Athena’s fortune, put there by the pirate lord. Is it possible that tavern keeper is potentially the body of Tasha’s mother?
Honestly, i think having the skeleton curse be "curable" is not the best idea narratively either, or at least not like this. It makes character's like wanda or brigsy's story feel pointless... like knowing that the curse is permanent is terrifying for them, because they know what it does to the victim. It doesn't just mess with the persons appearance but there mind as well. Like brigsy said in The Cursed Rogue tall tale, "I didn't ask to be cursed!" Tldr: things with big lore consequences need to be handled carefully so they don't ruin previous character's stories.
To be fair, the whole reason LeChuck ran to Monkey Island was to recharge the burning blade. So it seems its power isn't limitless. Maybe this one act will use its magic up and restore it to the sword of souls? Or just render it a plain sword?
But if it's so hard to cure the curse, why can I change from skeleton to ghost and back from a chest on the ship? (Just kidding, I agree that the story should stay away from the cartoony logic of the sandbox gameplay.)
I came to check if this was only happening to me i bought the game but it doesn’t let me play it tells me that I have to check for updates is that is happening to anyone else any advice 😢
I’m thinking on buying one of those PCs I’ve been wanting one for a while. I’ve added stuff two the brig and made it more than double the price it will be worth it I hope if I do get it I’m not sure if I will.
I really hope that the last 2 years of story don’t just end in a character no one cared about , or even knew about being the voodoo doll or reincarnation device for flame heart. Also , if it does , what next? Aswell as this , think about how confusing it’s going to be for the whole new wave of players coming in on ps5. It’ll just be like , this character is going to be reincarnated again through someone whose whole storyline essentially got cancelled by rare in order for more of the exact same stuff to happen again that’s been happening for 2+years.
There's another explanation - The sword was only used to manipulate Guybrush (SoT clone Guy). He then somehow traveled back to his original game's universe, to talk with the Monkey Island version. The monkey Island version is a multi dimensional god of art and creation, who was born from human imagination. Essentially, WE have been manipulated through that god pulling the strings. Our minds altered, the game file altered. The sword (in game) could always alter reality. And with this theory you can alter it to fit: Guybrush was created as a god, when he was imagined in his artists mind. He's messing with us. Our parallel universes are server merging. That or it's crap writing :D
I havent played in the good bit but the story thread you mentioned could have happens sounds SO cool and has so much potental but were actualy getting is just dull and mundane
I hope something goes wrong with this weird memory thing, but I hope it doesn't end with flameheart appearing. perhaps this is actually Briggsy lying to get her own body back? idk. I don't trust her tbh.
Wait wait wait... You are telling me, that the unbelievable battles i had with the reapers to prevent flamehearts return, and the sacrifice my favourite sot character pendragon did, is now just retconned and the master of the Flame is still not back, he will return through that sword? WTF!? Then it wasnt necessary to try stopping him in the first place! That is so badly written, that it is nearly robbery
Oh gods, it's the Ghostbusters thing. "Ray, what did you think of?" Also, making "memory" Tasha and _grafting her arms onto real Tasha_... wtaf? Thororughly brutal, but also doesn't actually lift a curse?
I hope it's just Brigsy just killing her and she felt bad making her forget and is using the sword to get her memory back. FIN then go back to finding the cure or get the memory back to cure
My personal take is that people are jumping too quickly to doom and gloom right now, i think the whole behavior in the tavern going down right now is very strange and i get the feeling something fishy is going on, considering who's hands this sword is going to end up in. They already said flameheart has BEEN back since return of the damned, he has just been slinking away. ESPECIALLY considering what the orb has been saying, referencing the secret stars and all. I think flameheart is having some kind of influence right now, since he's so interested in ancient locations somehow connected to the secret stars, and briggsy is just airheaded thinking theres nothing going on. I think its definitely some kind of red herring.
The idea doesnt sit well with me. So because Tasha's mother remembers what killed her it brings flameheart back? Even though the reapers brought him back ages ago and has yet to make an appearance and a random memory brings him back???? When he was revived long ago????
While everyone else was celebrating the cancellation of Adventures this is exactly what I realized would happen. You can't have big story moments in a "cookie crumb" format so the entire story would have to be reshuffled and changed.
Dear god how are we at ~15 months still playing through what can be called one of the most glorified side story tangents in a video game. It's like if in Skyrim, there's this quest which involves a ghost haunting an inn, and instead of the normal pace of the quest where you just need to get a quest item from a random nearby dungeon, it spirals into a whole questline as big in scale as one of the DLC's.
But... the sword was used by LeChuck to manifest Melee Island and trap Guybrush in his fantasies of being Legend of Monkey Island. The Sea of the Damned is usually all green and ghostly but the Monkey Island tall tales looked indiscriminate from reality because it was the manifestation of Guybrush's memories
Ah I see where you acknowledge it in the video. Also I agree, I want the temple! They made the temple sound so badass I hope it makes it in the game in a tall tale or something
They need to make the adventure redo able like tge tall tales cause there's SO much story people are missing (myself included) like tgaey have full maps tgey shelved because "limited time" stuff...its killing the game for me...
One thought I have seeing this shift is, maybe the sword doesn't work, but things get worse for Tasha, leading to another Warsmith style arc, but that's still pretty lazy writing.
I know that the story line is a mess at the moment but hopefully some of it will finally be tied up (and make sense, hopefully) for more characters and villains. I’m hoping for a certain captain who hates a crocodile to make an appearance.
What if the whole mess of it is due to the broken memories? Idk hardly much about the SoT lore, but what if the messiness is still due to broken memories and maybe secret misinformation given to them. Like with what you said about it really releasing Flameheart due to the misinformation his followers may have alluded to
What if the sword itself is mind controlling them to forget what it actually does and move it somewhere less safe. Could be a good plot idea... Or maybe that's to good for rare 😅
In fact the sword of souls mind controlling people could explain all the ways people have been acting weird and forgetting what they were originally doing, it would fit in quite well
A bit unclear from you on the subject of tashas mothers death memory thing. “Remembers it was flameheart and he returns”. A bit confusing what you mean, is it like, that one thought of flameheart creates a whole new body for him that he instantly inhabits? Because that seems a bit far fetched, and too out of story, even for the devs
Crazy idea what if that’s not briggsy, crazy I know or so I thought until I remembered SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENED BEFORE. Anyone remember when the pirate lord was actually LE CHUCK in disguise. Here are my reasons behind this idea 1. Briggsy never gives up easily so why would she have just come back and say to bad 2. She is brilliant so why would she have forgotten an important detail 3. She understands being cursed and the danger of cursed items and now randomly trust the crazy cursed sword that can bend peoples will ? 4 the skull of siren song, she wants very powerful SIREN skulls when we know about the curse that turned them evil and it’s danger Not to mention she’s kind and witty so why would she be insulting us trying to give her the skulls and seem really jumpy “use your sword use your gun use a banana I don’t care just get that skull to me” Just saying that don’t sound like her character AT ALL and seeing the lit up pirate lord pendant next to the not lit up one on the start screen seems like a bad omen
The storyline has made less and less sense ever since adventures came out. No one accused Amaranta of murdering DeMarco, yet she claims everyone accused her, and instead every clue we were told was a lie so they could cop out by reviving the Siren queen. The Dark Brethren strong armed Briggsy into finding a cure for the skeleton curse - Chances are so Wanda can reclaim the humanity Flameheart stole. How did she get out of that deal? What of the spy that the rat symbolized across the pirate legend photos on twitter? Surely they weren't just hapless easter eggs Rare put in for people to have fun finding... right?
To be fair this is all speculation. And I’m also hopeful that what ever comes of this leads to something better. I have a good feeling it will, but we’ll have to wait and see.
I hope the lack of effort in the story telling is because they’re putting more effort into the future stuff and they’re maybe just excited and trying to get there faster.
I really hope you're wrong! We had a super epic storyline started. With the cure and all of SotD and Flameheart's return! It going to be very, very lame if they just leave it behind!
I feel the SoT devs have gone lazy, from content to story to bufgixes. It's all about the pirate emporium+game sales and not the love for the game that we experienced years ago.
I'll be honest; I adored Sea of Thieves and the writing especially back during the shores of gold. The adding the stuff with flameheart was awesome, and I was even able to tough out the lull's leading up to the Pirate's Life tall tales and the cool adventures that happened after. But after the end of the first mystery things just felt poorly written and plain bad. I know a lot of people enjoyed the monkey island tall tales but I've got to be honest I thought they were just poorly written for the overall sea of thieves story. They were fun filled and Im sure nostalgic for everyone who loves the monkey island style, but for the overall narrative it was just so flimsy, and since then I haven't had much desire to tune back in, because it feels like the amazing arc that was being built up with the return of the lord of flame, and then the conniving dark bretheren and ever mysterious cap'n is just... gone? I dont really know if anyone agrees with me on that, but it just feels like Rare took everything epic and intriguing about the story and just threw it to the crows or something
Rare is trying to get out of the story they were working on in the worst way possible. It’s like they lost their story telling team. Also how many freaking ways do we need to bring back Flameheart? He should have been back already. What was the sacrifice of Stitcher Jim for?

Hey I think there is new music around reapers hideout I wonder if it's gonna get a revap like golden sands
Ok, so this is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but thank god they're doing ANYTHING with the story. You know what would be great about Flameheart coming back because Guybrush slipped on a banana peel? Flameheart would be back. My experience in the sandbox would be improved, and while the story would enhance my experience of a tall tale or two, the story has very little to do with my everyday gaming experience.
i love the little song at the end xd I'm going to show this to my older brother and sister
I guess everyone is busy working on the PlayStation version…… I’m sure it’ll be alright in the end once Flameheart returns just to shout at the players
They clearly weren’t prepared for the return of flameheart 😂 and now it kinda seems like they’re scrapping together a quick story.
Rare and Microsoft using AI to write the story now. That's what this feels like. Totally unedited AI garbage.
And me planning to get back to the game when the Sea Serpent comes out
Thanks for being objective in your videos! I used to not watch, but you have earned my respect by your honesty!
@CaptainFalcore have you looked into this?
isnt there a reaper bird in that room now? waht if it is stolen by the bird? letting it fall into the wrong hands?
Honestly, i think having the skeleton curse be "curable" is not the best idea narratively either, or at least not like this. It makes character's like wanda or brigsy's story feel pointless... like knowing that the curse is permanent is terrifying for them, because they know what it does to the victim. It doesn't just mess with the persons appearance but there mind as well. Like brigsy said in The Cursed Rogue tall tale, "I didn't ask to be cursed!"
Tldr: things with big lore consequences need to be handled carefully so they don't ruin previous character's stories.
I am disappointed did developers put cancelling Adventures dammit promises to the community but they have broken them they're not cool rare.
I’m thinking on buying one of those PCs I’ve been wanting one for a while. I’ve added stuff two the brig and made it more than double the price it will be worth it I hope if I do get it I’m not sure if I will.
yay another captain falcore video :D
And with this theory you can alter it to fit:
Guybrush was created as a god, when he was imagined in his artists mind. He's messing with us. Our parallel universes are server merging.
That or it's crap writing :D
What happened to the entire skull of siren song plot
I havent payed attention to the Sea of thieves story for 2 years, and even i am disappointed.
I havent played in the good bit but the story thread you mentioned could have happens sounds SO cool and has so much potental but were actualy getting is just dull and mundane
Wait was I spoiled very badly with monkey island? I never started it yet and kinda sad if it was a major spoiler
I hope something goes wrong with this weird memory thing, but I hope it doesn't end with flameheart appearing. perhaps this is actually Briggsy lying to get her own body back? idk. I don't trust her tbh.
briggsy is defininitely suspicious
Wait wait wait... You are telling me, that the unbelievable battles i had with the reapers to prevent flamehearts return, and the sacrifice my favourite sot character pendragon did, is now just retconned and the master of the Flame is still not back, he will return through that sword?
WTF!? Then it wasnt necessary to try stopping him in the first place!
That is so badly written, that it is nearly robbery
Oh gods, it's the Ghostbusters thing.
"Ray, what did you think of?"
Also, making "memory" Tasha and _grafting her arms onto real Tasha_...
I love these videos, I want more lore 🤩
I really wish we could have just had a frigging dungeon with a unique boss.
God DAMMIT RARE!
Do we know who is The Cap'n? Is there any lore progress around him? Will we just forgot that?
I think the reasoning behind this is simple: Stuff needed to be retconned and changed when Adventures got cancelled, and this is the result.
If my lord returns do to a memory I’ll still be happy and disappointed that he didn’t get a greater return
Somehouw Flameheart returned
It feels like Rare don't care if they can't reskin it and add it to the Emporium or release as a Twitch Drop.
While everyone else was celebrating the cancellation of Adventures this is exactly what I realized would happen. You can't have big story moments in a "cookie crumb" format so the entire story would have to be reshuffled and changed.
It's not the sword of souls it's the burning sword
And now the sword is with Tasha and she is cured and nothing bad happened 😔
One thought I have seeing this shift is, maybe the sword doesn't work, but things get worse for Tasha, leading to another Warsmith style arc, but that's still pretty lazy writing.
I heard from a friend that necromancy wil come to sea of thieves.
is it true?
I know that the story line is a mess at the moment but hopefully some of it will finally be tied up (and make sense, hopefully) for more characters and villains. I’m hoping for a certain captain who hates a crocodile to make an appearance.
Yep, I don't mind a speed bump like this, if it puts the story into 5th gear eventually!
...and if you haven't been doing PVP then you can't even access the area to follow the story.
The lore in sot has always been at a kingdom hearts level writing.🤣
What if the whole mess of it is due to the broken memories? Idk hardly much about the SoT lore, but what if the messiness is still due to broken memories and maybe secret misinformation given to them. Like with what you said about it really releasing Flameheart due to the misinformation his followers may have alluded to
What if the sword itself is mind controlling them to forget what it actually does and move it somewhere less safe. Could be a good plot idea...
Or maybe that's to good for rare 😅
In fact the sword of souls mind controlling people could explain all the ways people have been acting weird and forgetting what they were originally doing, it would fit in quite well
I miss adventures😢
A bit unclear from you on the subject of tashas mothers death memory thing. “Remembers it was flameheart and he returns”. A bit confusing what you mean, is it like, that one thought of flameheart creates a whole new body for him that he instantly inhabits? Because that seems a bit far fetched, and too out of story, even for the devs
I don't know how they haven't even followed their own roadmaps and story lines. Just went "oh. Um. Don't worry about that. This shitty idea instead."
Crazy idea what if that’s not briggsy, crazy I know or so I thought until I remembered SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENED BEFORE. Anyone remember when the pirate lord was actually LE CHUCK in disguise. Here are my reasons behind this idea
1. Briggsy never gives up easily so why would she have just come back and say to bad
2. She is brilliant so why would she have forgotten an important detail
3. She understands being cursed and the danger of cursed items and now randomly trust the crazy cursed sword that can bend peoples will ?
4 the skull of siren song, she wants very powerful SIREN skulls when we know about the curse that turned them evil and it’s danger
Not to mention she’s kind and witty so why would she be insulting us trying to give her the skulls and seem really jumpy “use your sword use your gun use a banana I don’t care just get that skull to me”
Just saying that don’t sound like her character AT ALL and seeing the lit up pirate lord pendant next to the not lit up one on the start screen seems like a bad omen
Surely they weren't just hapless easter eggs Rare put in for people to have fun finding... right?
Imagine how little you have to care about your game’s story to forget key lore details
Then why is Briggsy not a ghost?
Is this really Briggsy or just a Imposter?
I really hope you're wrong! We had a super epic storyline started. With the cure and all of SotD and Flameheart's return! It going to be very, very lame if they just leave it behind!
I feel the SoT devs have gone lazy, from content to story to bufgixes.
It's all about the pirate emporium+game sales and not the love for the game that we experienced years ago.
They are doing a Game of Thrones...
Olga will take the sword and go rogue
Rare is trying to get out of the story they were working on in the worst way possible. It’s like they lost their story telling team. Also how many freaking ways do we need to bring back Flameheart? He should have been back already. What was the sacrifice of Stitcher Jim for?
I wish the storytelling would go back to normal when it came out slowly but surely
