The choreography is world class, top notch, the guy with the staff is a genius, like a cheat boss in a video game, the other guy up there is the drunken master in snake in the monkey's shadow, he's so young here. Nice movie. I miss these.
Same director (though different martial arts directors) & 2 of the 3 main fighters here were in that. villain Kwan Fung is one of the most underrated & unknown martial arts stars of this era. His pole work here is maybe the best I've seen in a film.
The greatness of Ching Siu Tung’s choreography can be seen early in this great Lo Mar film. Kwan Feng shines here and was a go-to formidable foe in Lo’s films at the time-this one, Five Superfigters, and Boxer from the Temple comes to mind. And it’s a shame that Hau Chiu Sing wasn’t in more classic kf films.
Wow. This is one of the best fights I have seen. The choreography is sooo well hidden! I bet all these dudes got bruises & bumps over the period they filmed for. What a classic.
I KNOW where I would have been tempted to put that staff after I beat that guy! But seriously, folks - mad props to the fight choreographer and to whomever was in charge of the sound effects. Both took impeccable timing!
To this day, this is still my favourite martial arts fight! That bo is just so beautiful to watch. And the last 2 minutes are a very rare example of 2 vs 1 fight where they are really going for it in a realistic way (instead of taking turns throwing a punch). And I always feel sorry for that villain. He never wanted to harm our protagonist boys and gave them multipe chances to part ways peacefully. He just wanted to avenge his master, like basically every other martial art hero of that time. And it also feels kind of unfair to see him losing that fight just because those monkey dudes are protected by plot armour ... they take so much damage, they should have died a couple of times, especially the one with the dark trousers, how can he stay up after 5:21 ? Anyway, great fight, glad this is available on TH-cam
Kwan Fung was a bad man with that spear/staff, starred in many shaw brothers movies as a bad guy. He used the pole or spear like it was a part of his body. And could fight well too, without it...just watch him in "five superfighters" and "kid from kwangtung". This movie had a weird stigma, as it was always getting confused with "mad monkey kung fu", which was starred and directed by "pops" lau kar leung. Epic fight scene. I can remember first seeing this movie as a young man back in the day when "black belt theatre" use to air them. Thanks for the upload. these guys were so good, they had you believing you could go out after watching them and do the moves on your friends.🤣😉
Indeed so he was amazing in 5 superfighters as well as the Lone wolf character, that "corrects" Bad Kung fu he was also in Bloody Parrot,Shaolin Intruders,The Boxer from the Temple,The Weird Man,The Fighting, just to name the most well known Fool among others, if anyone is interested.
Wow! I was a huge Kung Fu movie rat when I was younger and I was also a student at my hometowns American Boxing club and every time I use to spare I would make those hand to hand combat sounds you here in these Kung fu movies and everyone watching just thought I was doing breathing control exhaling on my release and counter punches; but in reality I was pretending I was in a Kung fu movie battle lol!
I think the need to make every strike a uniquely stylized type of hit-hitting with a fist, side of the hand, elbow, upper-cut, back-hand-is admirable for its creative flair, but ultimately makes the fights look weaker and, to anyone with even an interest in real martial arts, comes across as kind of goofy. When the guy's arms were stuck behind his back, I feel like in a Jackie Chan movie he'd have just punched him with a series of rapid jabs and it would have played out the same but looked more intense. That said, the section between 5:00 and 5:07 is choreography _genius._ Not only does it look fairly realistic, but it goes on longer than you'd expect, just getting cooler.
I do not want to think how much bruises resulted from this movie ! These actors are very good and dedicated to their work, thus far exceeding human limits !
Formidable!! 😲🙂👌👏👏👏👏👏👏J'aime beaucoup. 🙂👍👍👍👍
Damn that was tight. Movies like these can only be described as classics. Really good choreography. And my man with the pole... gangsta lol. Plz add more!
I know right? Even with dated cinematography it keeps pace really well. I've never seen this before, but it's amazing! Even more amazing considering it doesn't appear to be made with much Western influence...
De lo más fino que he visto en artes marciales clásicas. Los estilos de pelea perfectamente identificados, los cambios de ángulo de la cámara, la velocidad de la coreografía, la emotividad del final... Una obra maestra.
Another Shaw Brothers GEM!...as a kid we used to watch this movie with my dad and brothers. 10 years later my breakdancing moves were influenced by the drunken style.

Ha, this has gotta be the same movie I saw USA Network air one summer afternoon on, er, was it Kung-Fu Theatre...?! - and, Gilbert Gottfried was hosting the show, ha...I've memorized so many lines from this movie and still recite them when I need a laugh - "Hey Mister - ! What happened to you...?!...my mistress said, you were beaten-up!" "Augghhhh! - you keep quiet! - or I'll beat you! Now, get outta here!" "I shaved pumpkins for three years at the start, till now, I'm the fastest razor in the whole of China, boy!" "Hey Mister - do you want a haircut, or do you want a *shave*...?!"

Kung-fu fights are best when there is no wirework and people fly through the air. It is better still and more entertaining when real acrobatics are choreographed into the fight scenes. This way we the viewers/fans are able to see the actor's real human skills.
Have seen a ton of Kung Fu fight scenes. Here is my Score card. Sound timing and quality of sound 9.5 out of 10. Speed of fight scene. 10 out of 10. Choreography 9.0 out of 10. Verdict? Will be looking to buy a Eng dubbed ver of this movie for my collection. Nuff Said.
Finally found it! I saw a clip of this movie in a bar in downtown at 4:00 and never knew the name of it. I just new the good guy was f*ckin pissed and 8+ hit combo the bad guy who was already dead by the first hit lol. Love this movie!
The fight choreography in this scene was incredible !!! #amazing Old school martial art films are still the best!!!
Incredible… you don’t get artistry like this anymore. I miss the 80’s
This was the late 70's.
My childhood afternoon movies in the 80's . Such precious memories
I love the Golden Harvest Shaw Bros. of the 70's and 80's Kung Fu movies. What a great era of KungFu movies.

To me is the best choreography of staff fight. My number 1. By the way the other fights in this movie are surprisingly excellent!
Amazing techniques! 👏 kung-fu it's a real complex martial art and also very acrobatic ...
