The Original Kung Fu Comedy! Won Fei Hung (Jackie Chan) stars as the mischievous young son of a martial arts school master who is constantly clowning around when he should be learning kung fu. After his comic antics injure the son of a powerful local man, his father enlists the help of his sadistic uncle to teach his son a little self-discipline. This strange man, who has a reputation for crippling his students, tries to teach Fei Hung a bizarre style of kung fu. At first, Fei Hung resists, but after losing a fight with a local assassin who has been hired to kill his father, he realizes he must master the special art of the "Drunken Boxer." DRUNKEN MASTER was the second collaboration between director Yuen Wo Ping (fight choreographer for The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Jackie Chan. Blending intricate martial arts moves with Jackie Chan's trademark slapstick comedy, DRUNKEN MASTER ushered in the new genre of kung fu comedy and established Chan as its uncontested king.

Yes. But I have heard that Jackie didn't like Hwang Jang Lee too much as even though he was excellent her had no great control over his kicks and movement. He was tough no doubt . He injured some of the actors whilst filming the scenes. This was not received well by Jackie of course. Jackie as a result didn't do many films with him.

That section at about 5:10 where Jackie starts doing kip-ups and whatever else on the ground is insane athleticism. Also the long lens, no shaky cam, no fancy photography just straight lens showing the choreography is stunning. So glad that style is back in "Hollywood" thanks to stuff like John Wick (and others). Just glad it's back. This is still a landmark action/king fu title. Early J. Chan has no parallel really...

Jackie chan is the greatest master alive. No one can do death defying stunts like him. He has shown our world what a true human indomitable spirit is about. He took action choreography to new heights and mixed with comedy and pure creative styles.drunken master is epic. We spent nights watching his movies on VHS tapes. Jackie will remain a legend and we harboured a dream to meet him and bow kn reverence for showing us what true art form is about. He is the rarest of humans and we are blessed to be sharing earth time and watching a true master in flow. Hwang is a monster kicker and this fight is truly legendary in terms of pure choreography and chemistry. Movies offlate and dead with stupid gun fights and less skill oriented. People have become lazy and looking for drugs and pleasure. Martial arts movies are badly needed to inspire next gen with true effort. Jackie we love you and are in deepest gratitude for all your phenomenal effort to entertain and inspire us.❤️

I remember being so disappointed as a kid. I lived in Louisville, KY and loved these movies, Ninja Turtles, and Power Rangers. Really wanted to learn martial arts but it was slim pickings back in the day, so I was stuck with TKD, which of course isn’t ninjutsu or the acrobatic stuff I saw “work in a fight”… but real ninjutsu doesn’t look like Ninja Turtles or the various ninja movies either. Reality is a bitch lol

The exchange at 8:01 is kind of crazy and SO much fun. Jackie goes for an elbow strike, it's blocked, he extends the arm to grab Hwang's shoulder, which Hwang sweeps away... and then Jackie uses the momentum of that sweep to spin his arm around and hit Hwang on the other side of the head?! Whaaaat that's both amazing and hilarious.
