The clamping jig is ingenious! Next thing on my project list!

A lot of us pocket hole users use a drill to drive the pocket hole screws so you can set the clutch. An impact takes a lot of finesse to not burst the pocket. Great job as always!

Johno, you knocked this video out of the park. It's clean, flows really well, really useful and the drawers look great. Genuinely nailed it.

I love pocket holes. Discovered them about 20 years ago and using them on most of my projects. One bit of advice I would give is to use a drop of glue . I also use spax pan head screws which have T15 heads which I find better and a lot cheaper

Use clamps when fastening pocket screws to stop movement.

When measuring the drawer width , put both drawer sides together on one side , then measure the width , it it a lot easier .

Hi John. Glad to see you made access under the MFT top possible. Never mind the dust that falls through the holes, but you will also loose screws and bits and other stuff, and always when you don't have a replacement.

Hi John, another cracking video and funny as when it comes to pocket holes I think we have all made the same mistake with them moving when in place😳🤣. Best thing mate is to clamp them down if possible then get one screw in and then it shouldn’t move. Or if difficult to clamp the pieces together, then use the mft with either clamps or dogs to just stop the pieces from moving whilst you get that first screw in. Kreg have loads of videos on the best way to get over this and sell a special clamping device. I think Peter at 10min workshop has done vids on pocket holes sometime a go. Another great vid is from Shop Nation and his latest workbench build as he uses pocket holes all the time. By the way loved the vid on the castors and great idea. Will be doing that myself now. Plywood prices 🤬🤬

I've seen other woodworkers use long bar clamps to ensure that pieces don't slip when using pocket holes. Normally put the piece in and bar clamp the outside of the cabinets inwards to hold the inner piece.
Very nice work! I have a smaller workbench myself but am very interested in using this style of drawers rather than shelves to keep sawdust out.

i think you need to make custom pulls for your drawers, in the shape of a lightening bolt, mentioning your prof. job, would look really cool in walnut!!

Hi John, with the price of wood going up I used 2 drawer metal filing cabinets, they fit perfectly under my bench. The added benefit is, they are strong and have a lock on them for security and they are cheap 2nd hand. Great video

Cool Table. I like how the 4x2 trim pieces around the top give it a finished look and also keep the MFT top in place with ability to lift it off for replacement. Good way to vacuum under it as well because I was wondering about that when you inserted the 1/2 in piece to block saw dust from entering the cabinets.

Great vidjo John. The Kreg pocket hole jig was one of the first things I bought when setting up my wee workshop. After years of watching woodworking blogs and shows on youtube. Had a list of essential tools. Funny how that list changes over the years. As in the other comments the trick with pocket screws if you need a flush edge is clamping. I clamp a block inside or outside depending which side I'm screwing. Mind the knees bud. I'm thinkin of gettin a couple of grease nipples fitted to mine. And get well soon . Head colds are back, thank God #fedupofcovid.😉

Great video fella.. I use pocket hole joinery occasionally and found that when I first put the screw in I run the driver in reverse briefly which seems to help it sink in straighter, especially with mdf.

Clamp a block of wood behind the part you are pocket drilling. This will support it and stop it from moving. Quick and simple.

Hi John, I certainly would not call myself an expert, but I have been using pocket whole joints for a long time. I used to put my wood in about mm so that the wood movement would correct the alignment. I bought a pocket hole clamp about 20 years ago (it is the one that goes into one of the holes and this sorted out the problem and I can now clamp my wood and it does not move on me. I would not advise anyone to use screws that are not meant for pocket whole joinery,

Hi John, great vid as usual.
I’d just say though that if I was planning to layer the drawers from the start I’d make 2 drawers rather than layering. I get the more expensive and more work but have been there with pulling stuff out to get to other stuff and in a few years you’ll be making 2 drawers to replace 1!

    Great video.
Maybe the tear-out on the pocket holes is because that’s the part of the timber that the drill bit ‘pulls’ up on. Hard see how to stop it except maybe make sure the board is clamped tight, the drill is sharp AF or even put masking tape over the boards? Not sure any of this would work, but?

Great Video I hope the knee is going well.
I would suggest get one of the pocket hole clamps that go into the pocket hole itself
as I use to get the same issue as you it was just off that small bit
I can confirm it is gone up after getting timber for a kitchen build it went from €800 to €1200 +vat
    everything

Hey, John... I really like that work station. The drawer build was pretty straight forward and really essential for organization of tools and accessories. I'm curious about the slight shift when acrewing the pocket hole joints. I have a Kreg system that has a great clamp that has one end that sits in a pocket hole as the other hole or holes are screwed. I haven't used it alot yet but did not seem to have that slight shift in the stretcher. I'm sure to watch out for it now in future projects. Enjoy your channel! Thanks

My man, if you clamp the ends of what your putting your pocket hole in, with them clamped they won't move when your fastening them together. I've been using pocket screws fora few years. So there's my thoughts my friend.

A normal drill driver works better for screwing pocket holes. An impact can be a bit too strong and damage the material by over tightening. Easier to control the torque on a drill driver.
