I drove for a small Charter company mid thru late 1970's in Connecticut. They had 5 GM 4905 Parlor Cars and a Flxible Viewliner, and I was usually assigned to GM coach #304. After a couple of years the company acquired 2 used MCI MC-7's from Vermont Transit and after coming out of reconditioning I was the first to drive one. I immediately fell in love with the MC-7 - It rode better with far less porpoising of the front end that the 4905's had, and they handled better as the 2 axle 4905 tended to have the rear end slide out like a Japanese Drift car on wet or snowy pavement. By that time I was driver #4 on the Seniority List and none of the old head drivers wanted to give up their Buffalo's, so I got to keep the best MC-7 in the fleet. Spent several years enjoying driving that MC-7 until I moved into an Owner Operator's Peterbilt hauling swinging beef for 3 times the money driving Charter Coach.
1st rode an MC-7 on Greyhound, actually two, from Baton Rouge La to Port Arthur Tex. Changed buses in Lake Charles going to Tex. Thru bus back to BR going home. Was really pissed the 7s took over as flagship from the Scenics. Rode a few 7s after that, including from Houston to L.A. and L.A. back to Baton Rouge later in 1972. I think my last ride on a 7 was in 1977. Great car.
Lovely coach, you can see the MC5 & MC6 styling cues all over it. Also lovely lemon yellow & red colours on its sides and the wheels, they make for a really attractive combination.
I have been a professional commercial driver, and for a short period a driver trainer, for 31 years and the MC7 is where it all started for me as a child... I would totally freak out when I heard that we were going to ride one of these, they were an absolutely majestic bus and riding one of them was always a wondrous experience for me... I would lie on the floor, crawl under the seats marvel at the view and talk the bus driver absolutely and completely to death... I totally loved every single millisecond aboard The MC7.
There never was nor will be another like the good old MC-7, which was the last of MCI's Challenger series. The MC-8 was Crusader and the MC-9 was the Crusader II. Greyhound MC-7s built from fall 1969 on were Super 7 Scenicruisers. Their most distinctive feature was cantilevered baggage doors that stayed open on their own. Earlier 7s had old-style pin-open baggage doors carried forward from the MC-5 and earlier models. I don't know what other differences there were, or if Greyhound updated the early 7s to Super 7 standard. Those MC-7s built for other operators were built from fall 1969 on, to Super 7 standard. My local carrier operated MC-7s from 1971 well into the early 1990s; I loved riding on them. I also liked subsequent MCI models; in many ways the 7 cast the die for its successors. Prévost's buses from the Champion on were good; Le Mirage was really popular. Eagles I never rode. GM Buffalo models I did NOT like at all; their ride had all the stability of a metronome.
Got to ride a few MCI MC-7's as a child with my parents in the late 1970's/early 1980's. At least twice on Badger Coaches, once or twice on Kerrville Bus Co. in Texas and a few times on Greyhound. As an adult with this historic Richfield Bus Co. in 2014. This is a family owned bus company that preserve past buses.
I use to travel to and from high school on these buses back in 1970. The bus line was called Pacific Stage Lines which was based in the Vancouver area in British Columbia.
No vehicles are so nostalgic to me like the MCI MC7s & GMC Parlor coaches.... school field trips, summer camp trips, church picnics etc.... those 8v71's struck a chord in me like no other sound!
Yes sir those are definitely very nice pieces of equipment and they're hard to come by these days especially in a very good condition like you see this bus in thanks for checking out the video and thanks for the comment I really appreciate it my favorite is the mc9 because I wrote it so many times when I was a kid in New Jersey I also like the eagle ae20 which we had in New Jersey
Oh yes and about the 8v71 what a great sound to hear even just the idle but when you hear that thing get going and shifting really nice good sound to the ears
Beautiful coach still in Revenue Service they still use this at least when this was recorded they were using it I'm not sure if it's still in service now but I wouldn't be surprised if it is thanks for checking out my video and thanks for the comment I really appreciate it
I remember driving by the Richfield Bus garage and seeing their old buses as well as Rochester buses. They also had new E4500s at that time. I was in Minnesota in 2994.
Bus Grease Monkey is currently doing some work for The Bus Boys. I caught a glimpse of this beautiful coach parked outside in his driving video from a couple days ago.
My goodness, I think that I had owned a toy bus that looked like that. I remember riding a bus, similar to this going to Clarksdale, MS when I was a kid.
@@BusTVChan Agreed! (The up/down uip for on,position of the solenoid reverse doesn't correspond to its position on the shift attern, where it, as always would be on 2, but is below 2nd. Maybe the switch should have been on top of the driver's side' panel, facing forward, and ON toward the driver since Reverse is closer than 2 (one and the saame on the stick shift!). !
for very good bus that is the challenger MC-7the PONTIAC PARLORCOACH 04 GMC is the most beautiful bus built here in MEXICO was the horse of a thousand battles for the LONGEST TRAVEL companies since 1958 that began to arrive in Mexico faithfully served until 1988 when they arrived at the lousy Europeans
Wow! 5.4 decades & still in service! That bus coach was very well maintained & self contained! I couldn't tell though if there was a sink in the rear bathroom lavatory to "lavar los manos" (wash hands). I couldn't resist adding that since lavatory & spanish word lavar resemble & are related in word origin from Latin. Anyway, I wonder if that was a flush toilet. I desired that it would have been elongated. Interesting bus video overall. I'd rather ride this 1970 model than any of the new 1's of today 2024.
@BusTVChan this lady that worked with driving prison buses said she was a retired greyhound driving and that she drove some buses that where 10 and 12 speed manual have you ever run across anything like that?
Yes the ZF Astronic 12-speed transmission was available in MCI a few years back. It was basically a manual transmission that shifted automatically, an automated transmission they call it. It has a clutch but no clutch pedal, the clutch action is also fully automatic. It normally starts in 3rd gear but 1st or 2nd can be selected manually if need be. I drove one once and honestly, I'm good with the Allison B500. 😀
Complimenti bellissimo video io ho fatto dei modellini in scala se ti va di vederli su TH-cam antonello vicino autobus di tutto il mondo se ti va puoi farlo girare ad altri colleghi
Hello, Could you tell me where this vid was taken and what event? I'm interested in that Greyhound Supercruiser MC-6 behind you in the vid. Would like to find vid of it.
This was the spring bus event last year in Hershey pa. This year this theme is transit buses. Go to mybyojtube channel you cant miss the video your looking for
If, this is a four speed manual, where's the clutch pedal? I saw the shifter. (I've driven ZFasTronic 12 speeds and know they're fully internal and the driver should know by the difference in the push-button gear selector.)
The clutch pedal is there, when the camera first comes up the steps you can see it. Never drove an MC-7 but drove many MC-8 with 8V71 and 4-speed and sure would love to take one more spin. 😀
this bus is great Thanks for checking out my video, and thanks alot of the comment =) every like and subscribe and comment helps me out, so i appreciate it
@@BusTVChan unfortunately I haven't made it in several years. I went back to driving truck and haven't been able to get near there. Hoping to make it this year.

Gracias por compartir! Un titán de las carreteras...
Gorgeous old motorcoach! If automobiles were built to give that kind of service they’d all go out of business.

The engineering and mechanical skills back then were amazing.
