My bro has a ford Smax and it was one of your videos that popped up during a google search, i pulled out the vapouriser and cleaned it out with some brake cleaner and compressed air and re fitted it, that was 6 months ago and its still working. Thanks for the videos and the info keep them coming, cheers
Nice one Jimmy it's freighting to see in this day and age considering how long EGR/AD BLUE and DPF'S have been around now and garages still can't fix them .
Nice one Jimmy, you are spot on the possible cause with sound logic, you win half the battle with understanding the mechanics of how it's gone wrong before you do the repair, thanks for another valuable knowledge piece.
Your bang on right there jimmy, as soon as I saw the symptom on this video I thought blocked vapouriser. I can’t believe Garages are not able to understand the basics of these systems and then proceed to go on a fishing trip hoping they’ll fix it. Customers need to start claiming their costs back from these places, it seems rife throughout the trade. Thanks for the vids, always interesting.
People believed that the design of the exhaust system for all diesel cars were the same that's why. Now after watching this video i am convinced that i had a problem with the vaporizer because all the symptoms were the same even the fault codes.
Nice one Jimmy , another job sorted , i did the wire trick on a 2018 vivaro yesterday , it was blocked solid the metal pipe on the pressure sensor from the dpf , cheers for your continued tips and information, we in the job all need info from time to time , you cant beat it when someone has experienced the same fault as a job in the garage before , so many guessers nowadays in every job
Hi, I got a 2018 Vauxhall Vivaro, for my son, a few days' ago. I'm going through what I can change, to make the van run smoothly. What is this wire 'trick' you did? I cannot see this on the video, can you tell more? Thanks!
@@tomsurrey2252 if you take the dpf upstream pressure sensor off ( on the left of the engine ) at the back ,take the rubber elbow off and check the metal pipe is not blocked if so use a thin wire bowden cable , similar to a bicycle cable and use a drill on slow speed and drill it out , keeping the cable tight or it will wind itself up it took me over an hour to do the one I was on , it then should allow the cable to push straight into the dpf , I then ran the engine just with the sensor plugged in to feel gas flow when the engine was running , then put it all back together
I think you were previously correct about glow plugs being needed for euro 4 German diesels witch don't have vaporiser but use fuel injectors to to inject on exhaust stroke to clean DPF filter ,Glow plugs are used to raise temp of engine and cylinders whilst cleaning / any intermittent or faulty glow plug will cause regen or forced regen to fail on VW euro 4
I agree, too many 'mechanics' swapping parts just on spec without research into the logic behind the fault. Great video and very honest and informative, thank you!
Listening to you recall customer's stories reminds me of an experience I remember. Some years ago a friend of mine got this diesel 'mechanic' to come and look at his Vauxhall Astra at his home. This 'mechanic' bloke decided that the solution was 'to give it 24 volts'! I kid you not, that is what he said. The short of it is that the bloke was going to hump start the car and was absolutely convinced that putting one 12 volt battery in parallel with another 12 volt battery resulted in 24 volts! To my mind, if someone does not understand a most basic principle as this yet specializes in fixing vehicles should not be doing this job or possibly any technical job.
Great video and informative. I am annoyed that cars can be sold that the DPF can become clogged up . I don't see anywhere in the manual which tells you to run car at least 3000k revs to regenerate the DPF and no regeneration messages flash up so we never know
Recent subscriber, love your videos, just noticed you're based in my old home town, You're about the only good reason I can think of to move back there😂. I might book you for some work next time I go over there visiting..
Great videos I've learned loads thanks. I watched the one where you were left holding the key of a car and the guy had been told the engine was finished and you hadn't got paid. I use the SumUp payments system, You text a payment link and when payments received you start work.
In all professions you’ll find people that aren’t willing, or aren’t capable of learning, either from their mistakes or learning to be better at their job.
Jimmy, I love your videos but I'm now stuck with my diagnosis. I have a Jaguar F-Pace 3.0D V6, 2016. 1 year ago I had a cracked DPF core and it was renewed. After that after some driving the oil level has risen from middle to max and service interval went from 25.600km to just around 3.000km. Then I changed the oil, bought OBD-2 scanner and now after few months of constantly looking at parameters I figured why it happened. Active DPF regeneration happens every 80-150km on mixed driving style and maximum 300km when driving only on highway. Way too often!! I successfuly completed every active regeneration for 4 months and there is no more oil dillution. DPF pressure sensor looks ok. 0mBar after regeneration on parked car and 10mBar when it needs regeneration soon. At 130km/h it's 30mBar after regeneration and 120mBar just before the regeneration. Sensor looks fine, DPF seems to clean itself quite ok. But it fills up too quicky!! I have to be careful every 3 days to succesfully complete the regeneration process. On active regeneration, the DPF reaches up to 670°C. On city driving it's around 220°C and on highway on passive regeneration it's about 350°C. The DPF company that renewed the DPF said it's been renewed correctly and it should have normal "capacity". What can I check to diagnose this problem? Why is the DPF filter getting full too fast? Could it be one of the EGR valves not working correctly maybe? I've seen very big and constant errors on EGR (A) on my OBD-scanner. EGR (B) seems fine. Could it be that EGR (A) is causing too much soot to collect on DPF? What else could I possibly try? I wish i lived close to you. You are amazing and I hope you could tell me what is most likely the cause. I would be forever gratefull for your help.
that engine coolant temperature on the test drive seemed way too low. never got to 80c. they might've put in a cold thermostat at the shop and that might cause problems in the future.
Another great educational video Jimmy 👍, I also wanted to ask if there would be any chance of you doing a short video using forscan diagnostic to let us know what you're thoughts are on it and if it's worth paying for ? Cheers Jimbob.
Only other fault I've ever had is the fuse gone on glow plug on vaporizer valve which was down too the plug going to short still amazes me amount of garages that struggle with a simple fault
Hi, I have a 2012 Peugeot Boxer with a strange issue. the van has no engine lights on and not in limp mode but once it gets to temperature it starts smoking a lot, I can hear the vaporizer fuel pump pulsing which suggest to me my smoke issue is the vaporizer glow plug not working. My son is a mechanic and he has scanned the van and tested the vaporiser for blockage and all's fine. The DPF values are all ok as well. If I was closer I would come to see you, would it be possible to point me in the right direction? great informative channel👍👍
Hi I looked at a few of your videos regarding the DPF. All is very clear thanks! But ( always a but) my problem is just a little different I think. During regeneration I often get a "Service warning Now" and my Ford transit custom shuts down turbo and some other stuf. I turn of ignition . Start again and drive on with no problems. Last time the generation went from 97 to 64 and then the warning came. The only warning I see every time is low turbo pressure. P0299 But I think this is more a sympton after the turbo shut down? Can the low turbo pressure have anything to do with the warning during regenaration? glowplugs have been changed, and the dpf also. Vaperizor not yet .. hope to hear from you greetings Nort ( Netherlands)
So, I have an issue with DPF. codes p246c p244c p246b p2463. I connected the software, and the DPF pressure seems all right. The sot accumulation is 225% and 217%. The exhaust gas sensors 1 and 2 show 100C and don't move at all, and the voltage does not change when revving the engine, either. My theory is that DPF is not blocked; faulty sensors prevent auto regen. What do you think?

Great work Jimmy, what happens if you replace the vaporiser and don't reset the values, will the van not realise you have the new part installed and still give the fault code?
Hello, nice clarification, thank you! I've been having problems with my DPF in the MB 200 CDI, W204 for a long time. Question, which diagnostic device do you use and from what price range can you use it to measure the DPF temperature? I have one that obviously can't do it. With my ArtiDag 800 from Topdon I can only observe the regeneration itself, read out the ash content and the soot content, as well as a few other parameters, but not the exhaust gas temperature in front of, in and behind the DPF/cat. I suspect that the required temperature is not reached. Thank you and kind regards from Germany.
If there was a fault in cooling fan circuit it wouldn’t regenerate, so maybe that was the reason, however of course he should have checked the vaporiser
I have a question Jimmy, when you put the dpf cleaning fluid in, is the dpf cold or at operating temperature ? I hope this isn’t a stupid question but it’s something I’ve not heard you say before.
Most of these cars have showed up less than a minute before recording so they are at operating temperature but not regeneration temperature that would maybe damage it

The moment I see him plug the launch dpf cleaner. I feel dirty and have to stop watching. Another tool
Me ears hurt!
Seems that the dpf filler has been a wonderful idea for the mechanics and car and van making world they must be making millions off the poor people that keep having to have the bloody things fixed all the time , just another failed useless idea to fleece everyone.
