Love this one. As beautiful as the simple, Raphaelian pianist of the 1970s was, his best work from the late 80s and early 90s is astounding in a whole other way. Here is the raconteur, and the deep, complex, imaginative musician. Gosh, I know he had retired, but it's so sad to see him go.
This is a good performance; he has fun with it. Passes my added octave in the left hand test at 4:41 plus he adds others (some extreme) along the way. Third movement had Chopinesque moments of clarity, which was a treat.
I think this is the greatest piece of music in any genre, and I have a recording of my dad performing it when I was 2 months old so I was listening to it from the start.
@@wagneric222 what a wonderful story... post your dad's performance if you can... an audio file nuts can help you get it transferred to a modern format...
Thank you for the post. Christian Johanson really has touched the truth about how the playing changes, becoming even more wonderful as an artist grows older. He was not that old, and retired when he knew he was not well; perhaps these few years were gave him an undisturbed communion with music. The photo is splendid.
highest emotional tension here by Radu Lupu!.... and than the amazing 3.mouvment...a real Love-Duett! Fantastic!! for me ...with Sokolow the very best interpretation of Fantasie op.17! Thank you for sharing! its a real gift🙏🏽
He playsthat trill and higherline with a sound You just can't believe . 2lines in one hand and its incredible the textures here are unbelievable.Recorded so well .He could doit all .Noone does the climax at 4minute like this it sounds like Hofmann's lion burst into room !
Thank you! we definitely need to hear his live recordings, as his repertoire was much wider than one would think if referring only to his studio recordings. And the decca studio sound is often very far from how Lupu was really sounding (never heard something like what's happening at the end of the 4th minute).
4:17 I am very happy and pleased that M. Lupu was able to produce such fantastic climaxes as this one. I thought that he was equally shabby and sterile than quite all his brothers pianists.

An awesome vision of this work. In such a work, the digital performance is not so important. The key issue is the VISION of he artist. I prefer photos of the pianist and the experience to be immersive like in an actual recital. Deep loss for the musical community
why are you
Can't you leave me?
This heavy, occupied
Me sitting like a desk, why?
We were boys and girls full of dreams
Listening to Schumann's Troymerai
I crossed the stepping stone
A keyboard that has been closed for years and has accumulated dust,
you are
quietly starting to wake up
that someday I will surely open you again,
talk to yourself
I understand now
It is not smooth because it has never been tuned, but
sounds warm
Apple blossoms are in full bloom
You play me with a new technique,
The afterglow of that day doesn't go away
The first person who opened me as furniture
that day… …
