For the black door, it depends on which direction your house is facing. I installed a black door on the front of my house and I love it. My house faces N/NW, and the setting sun warms up my door immensely. It gets HOT to the touch in the summer months. Be aware of this for any wreaths or decorations you use on your door. Beautiful renovation. :)
Very true! We've had our share of melted wreaths and decor. I never expected hot glue to melt off my decor... in the DC region... in December. Doors that get a lot of sun are hot.
We originally did black but changed to red, it does heat bad. Maybe photoshop a red door. Mg house was white vinyl, black shutters and I got lots of compliments on the door

These floors are the exact color we went with in our master bedroom. I've had mine done for 5 years. You'll love this color...dirt doesn't show as much on them like do on darker wood floors.

I think leaving the fireplace there works great. The door is closed when you are inside in the winter typically, so it works but not in the way. Once you get all settled in, I’d love to make you guys a table with a touch of the house,Take a scrap piece of the flooring (if there’s any left) and incorporate it into the piece. Then the house will be a part of that piece forever. Kind of an entry type table or craft table for you/the kiddos. Can’t wait to see all this together. Love the light bright theme. ☀️☀️
Yes black door. I love the scribble. You will treasure this in years to come. My mother found that her grand babies had drawn and signed underneath her coffee table in the den. After that we made sure all that followed had their time to draw. It’s a great keepsake I think. Congratulations on your new home.

I like the idea of swapping the drawn-on cabinet doors to the laundry room. That way it's not one of the first things that you see when you walk into the house.
Yes to the black door!! It’ll look incredible. When I was 7 I was taking a moment to think about something I had done that was not okay (yelled at mom! 😳) During that time, I carved my name into about 8-10 of the brick faces in our entry way. Not to be mean or naughty, I was just in my own world. My parents left it there because (I didn’t know it couldn’t technically be fixed) my job was to be thinking about what had done and why it was unacceptable behavior. Not to let my mind wander and daydream. I remembered that lesson, it never happened again, and all “Ronda” autographs were still present when we sold the house. I was 18. However, it was hidden behind the front door when open and it was rare anyone noticed. As a momma now, I would take a pic with it for lolz 😂 later, and then have the mischievous artist help fix it. Not in big trouble, art captured and appreciated for posterity, child takes responsibility and fixes mistake, learns valuable lesson with siblings watching example provided. Everyone wins! You’re a great momma Jessa, just a suggestion. Remember, mine really couldn’t be without ruining the brick face a different way, so they left it. Otherwise, they’d have had me help fix it.

Instead of a deck have you thought of stairs leading down to a concrete patio? We've had both and I love not having to worry about pressure washing and staining a deck anymore.

Some day you may sell this place and you will be disappointed that you didn’t fix it. I love watching your updates. We recently had our kitchen remodeled. Including knocking a wall out. New vinyl floors downstairs except for the living room. It all turned out so nice. We still have to paint (color Silver Mine)everything but living room. Upstairs and hallway. I want to hire someone just to get it all done. We also had my bathtub converted to a shower. Love the new shower! And had the other shower in master bedroom redone. It’s Beautiful.

To remove sharpie marks, get a dry erase marker and go over the writing, then wipe it off, it will take the sharpie and marker marks right off.

When I was 7 I was taking a moment to think about something I had done that was not okay (yelled at mom! 😳) During that time, I carved my name into about 8-10 of the brick faces in our entry way. Not to be mean or naughty, I was just in my own world. My parents left it there because (I didn’t know it couldn’t technically be fixed) my job was to be thinking about what had done and why it was unacceptable behavior. Not to let my mind wander and daydream. I remembered that lesson, it never happened again, and all “Ronda” autographs were still present when we sold the house. I was 18. However, it was hidden behind the front door when open and it was rare anyone noticed. As a momma now, I would take a pic with it for lolz 😂 later, and then have the mischievous artist help fix it. Not in big trouble, art captured and appreciated for posterity, child takes responsibility and fixes mistake, learns valuable lesson with siblings watching example provided. Everyone wins! You’re a great momma Jessa, just a suggestion. Remember, mine really couldn’t be without ruining the brick face a different way, so they left it. Otherwise, they’d have had me help fix it.

I like the navy blue idea! Not as harsh as black but would still stand out against the white.
Instead of a deck have you thought of stairs leading down to a concrete patio? We've had both and I love not having to worry about pressure washing and staining a deck anymore.

Black door yes. You could always just do chalk board paint over the sharpie mark door and it can be a little daily message board for scripture etc.
I vote yes for the Black door. I also agree with others who have commented about sanding the cabinet door so it matches. Some day you may sell this place and you will be disappointed that you didn’t fix it.
I love watching your updates. We recently had our kitchen remodeled. Including knocking a wall out. New vinyl floors downstairs except for the living room. It all turned out so nice. We still have to paint (color Silver Mine)everything but living room. Upstairs and hallway. I want to hire someone just to get it all done. We also had my bathtub converted to a shower. Love the new shower! And had the other shower in master bedroom redone. It’s Beautiful.

Yes to the black door. And PLEASE sand off the Sharpie. It’s a good learning experience for all…mama don’t leave Sharpies around for little hands…and littles need to learn to take care of things, especially in your beautiful new home. Whoever used the sharpie would likely not like it if someone wrote on one of their toys. You’re doing a great job Jessa! I can’t wait to see the finished product

I vote for painting the front door black! We painted our front door black several years ago & we actually had neighbors come knock on our door to say how incredible it looks! Black 100%! I would also sand off the sharpie marks!
