Gosh, this really shows Austin’s personality. Whenever he was shown on the Duggar show, he seemed very cold, so it’s lovely to see how sensitive he is.
Their vlog was good too but people judged him a lot. I honestly like Austin personality. He was also on a show called world’s strictest parents as a teenager. I feel him be the realistic one he’s been there down that mindset and a great father.
They certainly They attach to the caring, loving God loving folks and reeel them in. Shame on the pair of them Why dont they get someone like groomer ..Colleeen Ballinger on ?
I love that Joy was able to talk through things with Jinger and Jill. I'm glad she has found her own way. Austin was her perfect match and I'm glad he's so supportive of her.
@@mariahsb7221 Jessa is trapped - she has no education, never worked and has no options but to rely on her father. That's a simple fact. She seems like a nice woman, but she is very limited in her life choices.
I wish as a mom that someone would have explained post pardom depression as being something that could happen. And steps to help it ahead of time. It hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I had it. Mammas and supportive women would really help if they warned of the signs before baby comes. I definitely spoke to my kids while pragnant because I didn't want them to go through the emotions without a plan. And I believe it made things less hard. There are natural things to take that help too. While breast feeding. Besides talk or counseling only.
I really love how Joy says that her mom has to CHOOSE to be patient, loving and kind. That's so hard with being a parent, your emotions really get the best of you.
If her "mother" (& I use that term lightly) had been loving and kind, she wouldn't have kept breeding & raised her children herself instead of pawning the younger children off on Jana, Jill, Jessa & Jinger. They were 11, 10, 9 & 8 years old when they were given 24/ 7 responsibility for multiple younger siblings each.
@@celestelawler587you don’t think kids enjoy and need responsibility ??? They didn’t RAISE them..they helped. I lived on a farm and I had a lot of responsibility at a young age including helping my mom with the young ones and fixing meals. You’re attitude it what’s wrong with this self absorbed world.
He absolutely does talk over her, and is a bit dismissive of actual mental and emotional struggles, but yes, he does seem like he thinks he is supportive. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, just kinda oozes with privilege.
Joy’s experience is important to share. Post partum depression is scary but it needs to be talked about so we can know the signs to look for in our family members and friends so we can help them
I’ve also read journal studies on those who sadly experiences CSA growing up, and for many, whether they’ve had therapy or not, am sometimes having children of your own can trigger traumas/triggers you never knew were there. I’ve always known Joy to be a sensitive person and very in touch with hers and loved one’s emotions. So when she was a tween and forced to confess her “sins” to the entire congregation and this poor young lass just breaking down sobbing…was a cruelty that I hope to never hear of again. Then to have her trauma so violated and exploited and sold is just mind boggling. For all my misgivings of Austin, you can tell he loves her deeply. He went everyday to the monsters trial and unlike other family members, he left with a very angry face and seemed to grasp the severity of what actually happened to his wife and mother of his children. I hope nothing but happiness and peace for this sweet young couple. They’ve already had to walk through so much together and they’re still babies (to my old a$$ anyhow 😉.) ✨🩵✨
@@celestelawler587 that’s a good question. There’s a lot that her family categorized as such, but it’s too awful for polite society to blast. She just looked so young, and so sad. I just wanted to give her a hug. I can’t imagine the shame she’d carry having to break down in front of those adults. I couldn’t have handled it as a tween.
I love Joy. She is so amazing. I'm also glad to see Austin so candid. I always thought he seemed cold, but I think that that was just him remaining guarded from saying or doing the wrong thing. What a nice couple. I am always amazed that the duggar women self reflect so well.
I don’t blame him from the peoples comment’s on their videos. People always bully him, they like Derrick better…blah blah blah. He’s been nothing but loving and supportive of Joy in every video. It’s sad people don’t care that it’s small snippets of peoples lives.
She talked about on their TH-cam channel how uncomfortable he is in front of cameras and how unnatural it felt for him.... he has warmed up a little but I think it may just be some stage fright.... mixed of course with the Duggar narrative on the show - which couldn't have made it any easier for him
When Joy started crying I just wanted to give her a big hug. I’m so proud of her for all that she’s overcome. ❤ And Austin seems like such a supportive husband. 😊
I love how you always let your guests speak. It’s probably easy to feel like you have to talk often to show that you’re listening, but this is soo much better!
Yes I will say this is something they’re really good at! So many podcasters think they need to fill in every second of the episode and they’re constantly saying “mmmh” or just thinking of the next questions and it gets in the way but I’m glad they just listen and then take a moment to follow up the questions!
Me too! They are never talking over their guests. Having two conversations going at the same time,it’s so annoying when they do that because you can’t understand anything they said. So the listeners missed out on all of it. They are excellent at letting them speak until they are done. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone on here and I watch a lot of podcasts that do it as well as Matt and Abby do. It just shows are interested in listening to what their guests have to say so that we know them better.
Goodness what a great interview 😢. I loved the Duggar show and actually met the parents in Fl at a family conference ., I hope the best for each one’s future , I love how she doesn’t regret her past … and is using those moments to grow .., ❤
Ok, I was almost in tears hearing joy talk about how her mom chose not to yell or scream. And then her honesty saying it’s been hard for her. It’s SO hard, but I am inspired now to try my hardest! Parenting is hard!
There’s a whole video of her yelling at one of her 10 yr old daughter. Derrick accidentally on purpose caught it on camera. She was yelling and had the child backed in a corner ..With her finger in her face. So I wouldn’t say she doesn’t yell or intimidate her kids. We all know Jim Bob has a raging temper.
@@AngelChristinaaaI’m so glad they recorded that. The way some people idolize Michelle & JimBob is gross. They are such self-absorbed freaks. And yes, parenting IS hard. Michelle is lucky she got all of her older daughters to do it. 🤡
Agreed. I suffered with both of my kids but much worse with my first. More women need to be educated and know that it's totally normal and to reach out.
I have watched them since the show came out. I have never seen Austins personality so much. He is way more relatable and funny than they portrayed. They are a great couple.
Excellent interview!! I really appreciate Joy being so open about her postpartum struggles. As hard & painful as it was it is an amazing gift to all of us to benefit from. She not only shared her pain, she gave a roadmap on how to support someone going through it. Thank you Joy & Austin!!
that’s very wise what Austin said about not reading comments! you can’t control what’s out there in the world, but you can control what you let into yours. we could all benefit from that mindset!
I LOVE this from Austin and Joy! The way she was raised talking to someone and even thinking of taking meds to help regulate her hormones to help her mental health is EVERYTHING! What the Duggar’s don’t know is I’m more impressed with how they are NOW dealing with life..This Duggar family is showing what real families going through..
I love Joy and Austin and really miss them posting on youtube. Thanks for interviewing them and sharing. I really like that they touched on depression and cyber bullying, hopefully it opened a lot of people's eyes.
I am so grateful for the posture you've had when interviewing the three sets of Dugger daughters with their husbands. When Joy cried, I cried. She is such a sweet soul. I pray she has more peace than ever.
I love seeing Austin in this setting and relaxed. Several years back when he was first introduced to us on the show, I really wasn't sure what to think of him. He did seem kind of cold and it made me question if he was a good partner for Joy - LOL - which is so silly in retrospect! We can see here how wonderfully supportive he is of Joy. He was brought up well.
Joy’s pain is heartbreaking. 😢 So, sooooo important to talk about PPD. Thanks, Joy x Glad to hear you’re feeling less unwell and that you’re now discussing your growth and sharing your story xx
This has to be one of your absolute BEST presentations ever! I know Joy and Austin try not to look at responses to their videos, etc. However, I think you have done so much to present both of them ( and especially Joy) in a positive light. You gave them an opportunity to show who they really are. I am so happy to see this side of both Joy and Austin. Thank you for helping these families to show how they really are and to help them get lut from u derthe negative stigma of being a Duggar! Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Joy I’ve missed your TH-cam channels but I am so happy you have taken time for yourself, your family, and own life. I cannot tell you how much your openness has blessed me at this time in my life. God bless y’all ✝️🩷
I watched them getting married!💕 Austin n Joy are now 30 and 26 respectively. They are so open, articulate, and respectful of each other. Just lovely! I kind of knew Joy and Carlin were best friends. Both #9 in the sibling order? wow! So much growth and goodness❤❤
Joy is so authentic. I got emotional hearing her recount her story. I so appreciate Joy sharing her story of postpartum depression. It is not talked about enough and her honesty will help so many. ❤
Austin! Blown away! I truly hope you see this comment and know how amazing it is to see you support Joy! And your kind words about Michelle. Appreciate seeing this and both Joy and Austin’s honesty! 😊
Joy is so BEAUTIFUL 😍 Inside ❤️ and Out. I am a 63 yrs old Mama and I have ALWAYS seen her as refreshingly genuine...that speaks VOLUMES, as to how humble she is. Joy...u R Loved by so very many and you have an outstanding HUSBAND❣️ Gorgeous, Lively Children too 😊
So honest about PPD. Too many Christians say that depression is because of “sin” medications can help so much. I also liked how she said that when she STOPPED breastfeeding she felt better! FED is best for your babies.
It's a SIN the Sperminator & the Incubator didn't get her any help after Josh digitally r**ped her when she was 5 years old. Trauma can cause depression, even decades later.
@@celestelawler587 i agree with you 100%!! It's hard to listen to her speak about her parents. She loves them so much and holds them in such high regard. They allowed her to be a victim.. shut her mouth and did NOTHING to help with any type of trauma. She is so strong and brave . I am amazed at how resilient she truly is 💔💓
@celestelawler587 this is a sincere question. Was she one of the 4 sisters that was molested by Josh. I thought it was Jill, Jana, Jessa and Jinger and then a babysitter. I could be absolutely wrong. Either way, that man is sick and Joy is such a Joy to listen to!
Joy and Austin, you two are freaking AWESOME. My heart is bursting with love for you both. Your honesty and humility are so refreshing. THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR SHARING. You are both brave and beautiful for doing this. You are both loved from near and far. Seriously! Your children are so very blessed to have you as their parents. The Lord blessed them richly with you two❣️❣️❣️
You don’t grow into anything, you’re trained up . “ Train up a child in the way that they should go and when their old they won’t depart from it”kjv. Parents aren’t perfect but they did an excellent job in training their sons & daughters.
@@joyaustin3140 You TRAIN animals. Responsible adults raise (as in teach & nurture) children to become decent, self-sufficient, productive members of society. The only thing any of the Duggars learned was how to produce more human beings. 😢
Matt and Abby, I have seen quite a few of your podcasts so far and I am impressed by how genuine and open you are as interviewers or facilitators. You are naturals, you are welcoming and you have a way a putting everyone at ease. The questions come naturally to you because you are clearly interested in your guests’ life stories. Congratulations! Well done!
Thank you for hosting guests on a podcast where you allow them to be themselves, and you genuinely seek to understand who they are, and what they are about. It was so interesting to see/hear Joy and Austin share so openly about their lives. They seem like a really lovely couple.
I cried when Joy cried. I think there is a lot to eating whole nutritious foods to support our brains and mental health, and I’ve experienced this struggle myself when I didn’t prioritize quality foods. I’m glad Joy confided in her friend and that her friend advised her.
This was the best Duggar daughter interview y'all had done. Joy was so opened about what she went through and I believe there are so many women that needed to hear this. Thank you Joy and Austin for your honesty on how things have been. You two have such a beautiful supporting relationship.
Just a reminder to anyone in the comments that mental health medication is NOT just for when it turns into a “life or death situation”. PLEASE do not put off getting medical help, especially if that’s what you and a doctor decide can help you feel better.
I know medications aren’t right for everyone, and there’s many other ways to get help. BUT just remember getting medical help for a medical issue doesn’t need to wait until it’s “life or death”.
Antidepressants are as helpful for depression as taking bp pills for high blood pressure or taking heart pills for a heart problem. Taking insulin for diabetes. Joy should have been on antidepressants for her hormone imbalance. Her mom was organized and calm cause she had all her older kids doing the work and taking care of the kids. Grandma did the laundry for years.
I love hearing how Mrs Duggar helps her daughters after they have babies and she watches her grandchildren 5 days oer week! This speaks volumes of her heart. I know she alpreciates the hekp her daughters gave her while she was having babies, now she can help them back ❤
There is NO WAY I would let that woman near my children alone. Her abusive parenting would carry over to indoctrinating her grandchildren. And Jim Bob 🤮🤮. His pedophile self should be locked up
I'm sure Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn & Josie... & their niece Mackynzie are the one's doing the actual babysitting. And Jana, Jill, Jessa & Jinger didn't just "help" while Michelle (The Incubator) was having babies. Michelle began what she liked to call the "Buddy System" in 2001. Jana was 11, Jill was 10, Jessa was 9 & Jinger was 8. They were each given 24/7 responsibility for multiple younger siblings.Bathing them, dressing them, feeding them... "parenting" them when they hadn't been parented themselves.
I feel so sorry for those girls they were Parenta fied as kids they didn’t really get a child hood them in semi arranged marriage still as very young adults. Are they happy or just told to be
I loved this interview. Any time someone opens up about their mental struggles it takes away a tiny bit of the stigma and that is critical to our understanding of how to help someone find relief. Thanks for posting.
Joy. Your vulnerability, honesty , and humility is appreciated. Your experience is so relatable. You are a beautiful soul with a beautiful family and I’m so glad that you are taking care of yourself and doing better. It’s a struggle to take care of ourselves as moms. God bless you.
This was truly a powerful conversation. I ve known this lovely couple from their vlog, saw their 3 beautiful children come into the world and witness their personalities develop . I love them all and miss them, and wish them all the happiness in the world. Blessings to you all for this wonderful interview. 🙏❤️🙏❤️
My heart was breaking for Joy. She's a lovely young lady, a great mom and wife. I hope she's happier now. All the Duggar children have been through a lot. I hope they can all find peace.
I’m so glad Joy has shared her postpartum experience. There have been over 60 births between the Duggars and the Bates, and she is the first one to speak about ppd. While I know not everyone would be willing to share such an emotional and hard experience, I think it is important for women who have such an audience to be open and honest about how hard pregnancy and postpartum are. The shows usually only focus on the positive (which there are SO many positives about having a baby) but it’s unrealistic to not acknowledge that hormones can be cruel and that women and families need help when going through that postpartum time.
I agree. I don’t think postpartum depression is discussed enough even today. Some people still seem to think that it’s some shameful illness that must be hidden away or they think that it’s an embarrassment, or that it means the mother is a weak person. There is still such a stigma in our society about people suffering from mental issues! People need to realize that, after giving birth, a woman’s hormones change drastically almost immediately. This may combine with many other factors to cause PPD: perhaps mom had a difficult birth, she may have a fussy newborn, or suffer from a lack of sleep, etc. etc. Personally, I gave birth in the early 1980’s, when the subject was glossed over by saying that mom might have the “baby blues” that would last a couple of weeks. In my case, I was tired, but I had complete insomnia. I didn’t feel depressed at all; I just couldn’t sleep. A new mom couldn’t survive very long on no sleep, so I knew I had to call my doctor when I started experiencing anxiety over this problem. There was no internet back then, and I only had a couple of books on pregnancy and childbirth. I didn’t find out how severe PPD could be until years later. Thank goodness I had a good doctor! I’m not trying to scare anyone, but ladies, if things start to seem too weird after birth, let your family and your doctor know, so you can be monitored, and so you can get help as soon as possible, if needed. Blessings to all new mamas out there, and take care of yourselves!
This was SUCH a beautiful episode!! So nice to hear the truth out of their own mouths and such grace and humility they have. Thank you for having Joy and Austin on what a sweet family!! 🥰
When I and my mom first saw the shows about this family, we wondered what the children would tell us once they became adults and were no longer under the control of the parents. My mother is long gone, but I find these videos fascinating.
I got to meet the Duggar family years ago and Michelle said something to me that still helps me feel OK when I'm having a rough mom day. I will forever respect and thank her for that moment in time. ❤❤
@aimeebaldwin5600 we were at a book signing of theirs and all these kids kept taking books off the shelf and putting them on the floor and just everywhere. My girls began picking them up and putting them back on the shelves in the right place. We get to the front of the line and as we are about to take a picture with Michelle she says "I've been watching you guys in line and you're doing a great job momma" at that time I was in my early 20s two kids under 3 and had just had a miscarriage and just needed to hear I wasn't a horrible parent and some how she knew that. I thought wow I wish my mother- in-law would be encouraging as she was always telling me what I was doing wrong
Thank you Joy and Austin for doing this interview and letting us all into your lives. There are many fans out there that wish you and your family well.

Oh man, I feel for Joy’s friend when she said she wished her dad cared who she dated. That was me, my dad didn’t talk to guys I dated, he didn’t tell me I was worthy of a good man. That is so important. The Duggar girls are blessed with parents who did try to help their children the best they could.
@@thisjustin2018 I agree, well, kind of! It’s just not good parenting at all, to let strangers walk around in your daughter’s bedrooms. Being willing to put all that on display is creepy. And they did it for years. Years!
It’s not exactly how you are trying to portray it. They allowed people to come to the house to meet them and people would ask to tour the home (not just the girls’ bedroom 🙄), and they were too trusting and things were stolen by these so-called fans. Being too trusting was their fault, but it wasn’t intentional. Jinger had her diary stolen, and luckily they figured out who did it and eventually got it back. But your comment saying they were “willing to put all that on display is creepy” is completely misleading. You make it sound like they had their night clothes and underwear on display. 🤦🏽♀️ If beds are made and things put away, there’s NOTHING wrong with someone giving a home tour and showing the children’s bedrooms.
They also failed in a massive area allowing pest to molest and R his sisters for years and just continually protected him over his sisters. It’s pretty monstrous to also tote a few of his victims out on national television to excuse away the crimes they survived when it was revealed to the public. They even had Pest sitting there opposite of the poor lass’. I don’t know how they thought that was acceptable. That’s pretty sick and twisted!
This was a GREAT episode! I really love seeing this side of Austin open and talking about these things. This episode really made me reflect on my life as someone who struggles with mental health and has since childhood how lucky I am to have my husband who is so patient with me and never judges me even though it's so foreign to him.
Joy, thank you so much for your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your experience with breastfeeding. It’s so important to hear that it’s not always 'magical' for everyone (same for me!), despite what we’re often led to believe. Your openness about prioritizing your mental health is truly appreciated. I’m grateful for your voice!

Wow, so good to hear. I had a very similar upbringing, 12 kids, lots of trauma. I definitely had to find Christ on my own as an adult, putting aside what I was raised with. I had a dark dark period when my 3rd child started exhibiting very severe behavioral issues part of autism. She would hurt herself, smeared her poop everywhere everyday and didn’t speak at all. I was in tears bathing her and cleaning poop from her body after washing the walls and carpet, brushing her teeth since she would lick her hands and I was just broken. I hugged her tight and felt so much love. I felt this thought of “this is how much I love you”. Dirty and covered with sin and I love you so much. I bawled after that, I definitely felt the Holy Spirit talking to me. Since then it changed my viewpoint of my daughter and of myself. He loves me so much, as the perfect Father loving me even though I’m stuck in sin or struggle with various things.

@@celestelawler587yeah, if they were following Bill Gothard, they were the opposite of loving and kind.
I’m Catholic and all my friends home school, wear dresses, have big families. I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Wow Joy’s vulnerability is so needed for so many people. Grateful for her presence on this platform

I really love Austin! He seems very supportive and he doesn’t talk over Joy like some of the others do.
love Austin
Oh, like Jeremy does with jinger
He absolutely does talk over her, and is a bit dismissive of actual mental and emotional struggles, but yes, he does seem like he thinks he is supportive. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, just kinda oozes with privilege.
Like Derrick talks over Jill.
@@amandagreenleaf4273I think you’re way off base
@@dash-x
No sarcasm intended; but what "'sins" did Joy have to confess?
@@celestelawler587 that’s a good question. There’s a lot that her family categorized as such, but it’s too awful for polite society to blast. She just looked so young, and so sad. I just wanted to give her a hug. I can’t imagine the shame she’d carry having to break down in front of those adults. I couldn’t have handled it as a tween.
JB gave more grace to Jeremy than poor Austin.
@celestelawler587
In the IBLP’s teachings the victims of what happened to Joy and her sisters are the ones guilty of sin for “tempting” their abuser.
I love Joy. She is so amazing. I'm also glad to see Austin so candid. I always thought he seemed cold, but I think that that was just him remaining guarded from saying or doing the wrong thing. What a nice couple. I am always amazed that the duggar women self reflect so well.
I think they felt like they had to with you know everything
I don’t blame him from the peoples comment’s on their videos. People always bully him, they like Derrick better…blah blah blah. He’s been nothing but loving and supportive of Joy in every video. It’s sad people don’t care that it’s small snippets of peoples lives.
I thought the same at one time. So glad to see him more relaxed

Plus we get more tea this way lol
They create a safe place for others to share their story
Goodness what a great interview 😢. I loved the Duggar show and actually met the parents in Fl at a family conference ., I hope the best for each one’s future , I love how she doesn’t regret her past … and is using those moments to grow .., ❤
Oh how I love Joy and her spunky barefoot self. I also love how open and honest she is it makes her so much more relatable

I applaud Joy for speaking out about ppd!! Mom's everywhere need to hear they are not alone!! Thank you Joy!
Austin sounds like a very wise person!
I miss their TH-cam videos as well.
So, sooooo important to talk about PPD. Thanks, Joy x
Glad to hear you’re feeling less unwell and that you’re now discussing your growth and sharing your story xx

So honest about PPD. Too many Christians say that depression is because of “sin” medications can help so much. I also liked how she said that when she STOPPED breastfeeding she felt better! FED is best for your babies.
Yes, absolutely!
100%!
You TRAIN animals.

BUT just remember getting medical help for a medical issue doesn’t need to wait until it’s “life or death”.
exactly.
I’d love to know her new diet because she looks fabulous. Her skin looks bright and clear. They both look very healthy and happy.
I wanted to say this too. Sometimes it’s needed, and that’s okay.

OK! She has her girls do the dirty work!

Yes! 🎉
I always really liked Austin but this made me love him. Joy is so lucky to have a man who loves and encourages her
I got to meet the Duggar family years ago and Michelle said something to me that still helps me feel OK when I'm having a rough mom day. I will forever respect and thank her for that moment in time. ❤❤
Can you share what she told you?

If beds are made and things put away, there’s NOTHING wrong with someone giving a home tour and showing the children’s bedrooms.
Same here. I longed to be protected/cared about. Now I feel that way 100% by my amazing husband!

I love Joy and Austin. They are so real. It is so nice to see that they are doing good. I have missed them on TH-cam.
I hope you're continuing to feel and share joy with your family each day.

joy you are so brave for talking about such intimate and painful things. As someone who suffers from depression, taking that first step is so scary, it makes it real. Be kind to yourself, you are strong. Working with a counselor and your doctor is such a great step. And please know, that when you hit rock bottom that you can only go up, and every day can get better, and be kind to yourself if you have sadder days, you are worth being here, you weren't placed on this world by accident. Lots of love to you and your little family.

I enjoyed hearing from Joy, of course, but I really loved hearing from Austin! I spoke so calmly and freely and you could tell he felt comfortable
Great episode! I’d love to see some Bates couples on since they grew up like the Duggars and they seem more mainstream so to speak. Or Duggar and Bates girls together. I’d love to see Carlin and Joy on together.
Joy you are so brave! I hope you help a lot of women with this testimony! You are a fighter ❤ and you two love each other so much, and are supportive of each other. ❤
Thank you for being willing to share your struggles Joy Anna! We help others more when we share that life is not perfect, we all go through things, but God will bring you through on the other side of it!
Thank you so much for interviewing Joy and Austin. So many women will relate to her story and are thankful for all the women she will help by sharing her story.🙏God bless your family and their family!
I’m a FTM and had PPD so badly. Thank you for opening up. It made me feel less alone. It feels like I’m out of it now, but for months it was horrible. Thank you for sharing
What is FTM? is that a type of postpartum complications?
We know how you feel, joy... it's easy for others to say get up, be proactive, believe... when you are so deeply entrenched inside your own mind, it takes a lot of soul searching to dig out.. it's a spiritual awakening xxxx
