you know its crazy how they work as journalist, my father fought in iraq and would always say "if you get into a unit where there a journalist, you better wish it's just a tight patrol, because some of the journalist would expose your position just for a picture. and some said they are some of the reasons some folks couldn't make it out because of them."

As a press photographer, two things annoy me about this movie - first of all, no modern press snapper would shoot film. It's too slow to get your pics out. Secondly, lens hoods - why movies never have them in I dunno. You risk getting the glass on the lens scratched without them and light leaking into the lens, ruining the shot.

It doesn’t bother me too much. Film nowadays is usually done for that vintage noisy effect and “nostalgia” but the Nikon Photomic is built like a tank and reliable. Even if mirrorless are better in every way possible, if you wanted to shoot in 35, it’s totally possible.
Also I think you’ve mixed it up, a lens hood won’t prevent debris and dust affecting your glass but lens filters will protect lenses.
I see your points but if you really wanted to shoot 35mm in combat environments, it’s totally possible. Even if it makes more sense to shoot with mirrorless or dslr.

The ANTIFA massacre was kept vague on purpose. You don't know if it's a massacre done by ANTIFA, or against ANTIFA. That's not what's important though, because the film is about how no one benefits in a civil war, and we all suffer because of it. The war journalists are there because they're the ones making sure that the real details of the war get out to the public. Everyone in these comments sections keep talking about how unrealistic it is or how they never said who was at fault, when that's not the point.

  • @janefelix3821
    @janefelix3821 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +149

Basically, this movie tries to use the 1861 Civil War, which was a product of its time, in modern society. First, in 1861, States had their own armies (militias) which were independent of the Federal Army and had fought independently. Up until then, the USA had fought two foreign powers, Great Britain 1812-15, who at the time were so focused on Napoleon that they could only send a token force to North America, and Mexico 1846-48 who was not very powerful as they only became a nation in 1821. When Great Britain did invade the USA, states formed militias that fought alongside the US army. Today the National Guard (successors to the militias) are part of the Federal Army and can be nationalized instantly. The next issue is that most Americans are so dependent on Federal programs that with a quick snap of the Fed's fingers people will comply, examples are healthcare, education, transportation, welfare, housing, banking, finance, infrastructure, transportation, credit, etc. So no one would survive without these today. Back in 1861 communities were more localized and self-sufficient. The main issue for the Civil War, slavery was very divided by states. Most in free states wanted to end it while most in slave states wanted to keep it. No one issue divides states today.

Literally do enough research and looking at the geopolitics of the US and other countries today, a civil war would not play out like this and many of the decisions in this film are so silly that it's silly to think some of these things are a possible outcome. The US literally has order of operations for an insurrection on the white house. The unison between Texas and Cali is so hilarious. The way the US is divided between state lines and ideals, a faction based civil war looks extremely likely where their are new lines for separation of states and violence breaks out between communities across states. Civil wars make only sense in the begining......given enough time, people fight just because, or because they want to screw their neighbour from the next block, and not because some people that are thousends of miles away have some disagreement.
They don`t really care on wich side they are, as long as it is the opposite of their neghbours one
Then, there are the people who actually BENEFIT from war, and will make all they can to have it continued, because NOW they are a big fish, a warlord that can take whatever they want from whoever they want, and in the situation BEFORE they were just some poor suckers serving at Mc Donalds. They also don`t care for wich side they fight.
Finally when you have the first generation that grew up knowing nothing but war, considers it "buissnes as usuall", and is ACTUALLY AFRAID from peace, because it represents a situation they don`t know and for wich they don`t have any usefull skills, THEN you know you are royally scr*w*d, and that the war will go on till all resources are burned and all people are d*ad......

Bruh it was a genocide of an entire ethnicity of people - wtf are you talking about?! A rift STILL exists in that country between the two ethnicities 40 YEARS later
The most current civil war is the Tingray Conflict in Ethiopia. 478,000 dead....... I wish however, it was a bit longer and the ending did not seem so…abrupt. A post credit scene on what happens to the states now or where the journalists will go from here would have been nice. Especially since the Florida Alliance and New People’s Army didn’t show up.

It was very loud movie. Damn near to the point of causing hearing damage. As far as the story went, well, if you see parallels to today who could blame you? The most haunting moment for me in the entire movie was that gas station scene. Three guys are standing there holding rifles. Nothing else. Except maybe torturing their buddies around back because they can get away with doing it. This is the kind of lawlessness proposed by some. Every man for himself. Vigilantism. Watching that scene I thought to myself that I hope it also sticks in the mind of other viewers, because what's more simple than pulling into a gas station today? Can you imagine that version of pulling up to a gas station? Just armed thugs standing there like "this is ours and we'll kill you to keep it"? No more open public parks and playgrounds. Life as WE know it, long gone. With us having no clue how to bring it back, because we inherited it all in the first place. People ask, "could it happen here?"
It's already started. Most people just can't recognize it yet. Frog in slow boiling water effect I guess. Who'll win? Since we lead the free world, nobody, especially Americans. To those who think they're disenfranchised and powerless now, wait until America is a tattered wasteland, and a shadow of its former self. That big superior military politicians love to lionize? Gone. The economy you rely so much on to define who you are and how you live? Gone. You crying about barely a percentage point of inflation? Normally inflation hovers around 2.5% to 3%. Currently it's at 3.85%. When fighting breaks out watch it go to 400%. Or how about your money being worthless? All those credit cards and HELOCS and lines of credit you use to extend and finance your current lifestyle? All gone overnight. It's all fiat currency anyway. Gold and silver won't do you any good either. We'll be back on the barter system. That stock market your 401k is tied up in? What do you think happens when our economic system collapses overnight? Our deterrence to enemies like China and Russia? C'mon. You think they're going to be afraid of half the United States? Or a third? While Americans are killing each other they'll be landing troops on both our shores, ready to help finish off whatever's left, carving our country up into their territories. The reality is that it's always been easier to destroy than to create. My advice is if you don't know how to rebuild it, don't break it in the first place.
    That's this movie's warning, and it's message.

It would further polarize an already divided nation with one side saying “see! We are are the good guys you’re the bad guys.” That’s not the point of this movie to see who is good or bad the point is to see the needless death and destruction a civil war brings. Because there are people calling for violence in the real world. We do see some glimpses of the president taking a 3rd term , disbanding the FBI and launching. Air strikes on US citizens implying a facist government takeover that causes California and Texas ( 2 of largest economies in the country/ world) to join forces in the interest of defeating the White House, despite leaning politically opposite. This has happened in history before. Japan and Germany formed an unlikely alliance in WWII.

There is no civil war coming, it's pure fear tactics and people wanting to drag others down with their problems instead of focusing on how to fix these problems. Guns, Video Games, Civil Discussions, and Rights aren't the problems but Illegal Immigration, High Taxes, Instigating wars for profit and oil, Resentment of the lower and middle working class, Mental health, and Narcotics are the primary issues

the soundtrack was AMAZING for the film. The first song is offbeat and eerie, and later on, they use contemporary rap and hip hop as a backdrop to today's culture being used as the "war music", like Fortune Son and Everybody Wants to Rule the World before it.

honestly, the fact that A24 has made a few politically based movies while remaining unbiased is something that almost no other studio has been successful with. Didn't they also make 'the hunt'? I mean that movie was very political, but still without taking one side or the other. Making both sides look cool and making them both look ignorant. That's kind of how this movie feels as well. I mean, quality of story plot aside, you got to admit, they're tip toeing a line that other production companies have a hard time doing these days.

To be honest this movie show you a potential reality we all could face. For example, when Donald Trump lost the election in 2020. The riot that happened in the capital that was caused by trump supporters could be seen as an attempt overthrow the government because they didn’t want to accept that Trump lost. Let’s say it was successful in some sorts and Trump even had the support of the military. The country could quickly descend into Civil War.

I must disagree with those who are saying the California/Texas alliance is absurd and impossible. The film takes place not today but in the near future. With thousands of Californians and New Yorkers moving to Texas and other red states for economic reasons it’s perfectly possible that Texas could someday turn purple or even blue, as Arizona has. So a Texas/California alliance is by no means impossible at some point t in the future.
