@@mikeguidry2577 I'm sorry you feel alone and I hope you find whatever way loneliness means for you to find since loneliness can't be "cured" from something external. So many of the popular people are just as lonely but distracts from it with the people surrounding them. Loneliness really has nothing to do with what's happening outside of you, it's inside of you. I've found that helping people, either secretly or direct, feels like balm on a lonely heart. To ease someone elses pain in some way. Take care because you are very valuable 💙
My heart started hurting for her when she started to tear up at 3:26 😢 She's so strong and smart. I hope she continues to find more positive and supportive people in her life ❤
she is neither non-verbal or non-vocal non-verbal means: not being able to communicate using any means non-vocal means: not being able to speak to communicate She's uses vocal, gestural, an AAC device, and eye contact to communicate. 99% of people with disabilities have different ways to communicate and are very rarely nonverbal. also this girl rocks seems like a very cool person!
Blows my mind even someone whose profession it was/is to care for people with disabilities would just railroad Emily here based off assumption and refuse to listen to her. Ridiculous.
Unfortunately that's quite common with some ppl who work with intellectually disabled ppl. I've been treated like a child or less than capable by teachers who thought they were just "helping" me. Fortunately there are channels like SBSK that show a great example on how to treat disabled people
@@thewiddler1746 I think this is in reference to Emily’s story around the 3:30 mark about the person who thought she shouldn’t be outside by herself and that person ignored her response that she was fine and just enjoying the outdoors and walked her back home.
However it was well intended and an honest mistake. So there is a basis for learning. Let's not throw anyone under the bus especially when they already prove to care about and for people that have some issues that make it hard for them to live in the average society that isnt built to their advantage. I would assume that that person was embarrassed when he or she learned that Emily is perfectly fine from a cognitive aspect.
god this sort of stuff is heartbreaking - these amazing individuals do not deserve the disability they have. As Emily said, she had planned what she wanted to achieve in her life but most of those things will not be possible, it's gut wrenching stuff. Those of us who are able-bodied, it is our duty to do our best for those who cant.
Couldn't have worded it better myself. Her friend Christine is a great role model on how able-bodied people should treat others who are less fortunate.
I don't like to comment but this video just gave me so much motivation. I am also a disabled 26 year old. Although I am not physically disabled, I am invisibly/mentally disabled. I relate with her depression and loneliness. I'm so happy she has friends and some support.
get the help you obviously need and take ur medication then u should be able to integrate into society. depression doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be doing what every other adult has to in life. mental illness isn’t “invisibly disabled” and in no way shape or form do mentally ill or depressed people get an excuse to not function with the rest of the world
@@alexadec23334 They didn't say that a mental illness was a disability. Also, not everyone has access to medication, nor does medication work on everyone. And what do you mean by "function with the rest of the world"?
Her laugh is contagious. I live down the street from a building with a lot of disabled people (I am also disabled) and a lot of them do their own thing zooming around and doing their errands. I cannot imagine just walking up to one of them and decide to “take them home” ?! Ridiculous. She’s so funny and kind ❤️
I can see the feelings of loneliness on her face. I have a lot of mental health conditions I receive government assistance for. I recognize that expression because of my own reflection in the mirror, and it hurts to see on another person. Compassion and patience go a long way, no matter who you're interacting with. Never pass up an opportunity to get to know someone who's different from you. Even if it takes patience, that interaction could result in a beautiful friendship.
The fact that she has no cognitive disability out of all of this is such a double edged sword. I am glad to hear her story and that she can express it but living with this while having sound mind must be incredibly isolating. Thank you for sharing your story Emily.
I can only imagine the frustration when in your head you can speak super fast, and have all these ideas you want to share, but it's physically just impossible to get it all out. I hope you find a community, Emily! You seem super awesome
Amen 🙏🏻 very well said. I got really frustrated for her when she explained how she was just outside enjoying her solace and someone insisted she go back home without giving her a chance to speak with her phone
That fact that she’s so cognitively sound and yet her siblings wanted nothing to do with her. Heart wrenching… Emily is such a beautiful person, Bless her heart.
I think if we listened to more people like Emily we would learn more about ourselves and how to be a better person in this crazy world. Emily is amazing.
honestly this woman is so admirable with so much determination and incredible intelligence. Would be great if she wrote a book about her life experience.
I like this idea. Honestly, with a channel called Special Books by Special Kids, it would be great to have a whole series of biographies and autobiographies about select people Chris interviewed, another way of spreading awareness.
The way she stares at you intently......never breaking eye contact as what she typed is being spoken is extremely moving to me. Everything she thinks and feels is flying out of her eyes, and I think it's wonderful.
As a person to whom haves autism, I totally understand when people treated me as a child. I remember an former social worker spoke to me that I was an toddler, when I was an grown man. It felt so humiliating.
It wouldn't bother me if Emily needs extra time to reply to questions I asked her. I will be happy to give her time to answer. Some people are really rude to her and it's not cool!😢 You're really sweet, Emily.
A lot of neurotypical people should use extra time to answer questions because some of them don't even take the time to process a question and give an inane reply.
@@gentleauroraasmr8562You are right! I think that it’s because many people are not used to silence. Some people feel like they have to fill those awkward silences with talking .

@@mel3256 is that why there's a link to interact with her on Instagram? There is a much broader world to be accessed with online tools. That's so true Emily! People have no patience nowadays. I'm 25 and I don't just see young people needing constant stimulation, it's every age. I stand in line for anything, or I'm waiting for my food just looking around, and EVERYONE is staring at their phones. They can be waiting 10 seconds and they still have to entertain themselves with social media or whatever, they can't just sit and think for any period of time. 0:29 gotta appreciate that you asked Emily whether to trim the time she takes to answer or leave it in the final video. I feel for her so much. Honestly brought me to tears. She seems like a kind and intelligent person. God, I get frustrated some days and have bouts of frustration or depression, and someone like her makes me want to do better and be more grateful; not simply because of her disability, but because of the saintly patience she's learned and her persistence in life. I really hope all the best for her.
She is very open and honest which is refreshing. I'm one of those people that would assume her cognition is affected based on the disability. Lookism or horn effect. I need to be more self-aware. I feel non-disabled people are on the same boat in regards to being childless at 30+, 30 is the new 20 for many, and they live with their parents too. Though they do focus on careers, but many haven't even worked that out yet either.
There's nothing wrong with that and don't let anyone tell you different. I lived home even after I got married, with my husband. I'd give anything to still be living with my Mom who is now deceased. Enjoy your loved ones while you can. Family should stick together.❤️

It's a real shame that most people aren't very thoughtful and caring when dealing with a disabled person. The amount of strength she has to have on a daily basis to still be able to smile like that must be tremendous. Great video. I think a big problem is when people think they know better than you just because you are disabled. They forget people with disabilities are still people with rights and feelings.
Yes; perhaps they should have sign on their wheelchair or a t-shirt saying: My mind is fine! It's my body that's disabled, not my mind!" Or something similar.
Just watching Emily communicate, you can tell she is so intelligent. I also noticed once you realized that she was able to cognitively understand what you were saying that you just spoke to her as if she had no issues understanding. I’m almost 26 (just a little over a week week until my birthday as of writing this) and I feel lonely a lot to. I’m Autistic and connecting with people is tough for me. It’s especially hard when it feels like I’m the only one in the room who’s into anime (Sailor Moon is my current special interest). Isolation really hurts. I’m glad you’ve found a friend!
I love Anime too! I'm not autistic tho (I am getting tests run to see if I am or not, or if I have something else for professional diagnosis because my behaviours and social interactions are and have always been very different to other people and I've had a really bad school life because of it. Horrible attention span in every class, easily distracted, unexplainable emotions, daydreaming, slower to answer questions, struggling to make eye contact when talking etc. I've also had SO MANY assumptions of being autistic) anyways. I only have one friend and I relate to the lonely feeling. I don't hang out a lot. I'm quite the introvert. But I also still like filling that void of loneliness by hanging out, even if I have to really push myself to step outside. I hope you make good friends! You can do it! 💖

I have no one consistent in my life than family. Social wise, I'm not different than Emily.
I hope she continues to find more positive and supportive people in her life ❤
the fact that the friend still wears the friendship bracelet years later is heart warming
☘️💚
*HEARTWARMING
She may be nonverbal but she is very intelligent
incredibly intelligent. wonderful person too
She comes across as being far more intelligent than most 20-something adults.
Quite. This interview may unlock some opportunity for her to get a whole lot more out of life.
she is neither non-verbal or non-vocal
non-verbal means: not being able to communicate using any means
non-vocal means: not being able to speak to communicate
She's uses vocal, gestural, an AAC device, and eye contact to communicate.
99% of people with disabilities have different ways to communicate and are very rarely nonverbal.
also this girl rocks seems like a very cool person!
What about her being nonverbal would equate to her not being intelligent? That phrasing really hurts.
Blows my mind even someone whose profession it was/is to care for people with disabilities would just railroad Emily here based off assumption and refuse to listen to her. Ridiculous.
Huh?
Unfortunately that's quite common with some ppl who work with intellectually disabled ppl. I've been treated like a child or less than capable by teachers who thought they were just "helping" me. Fortunately there are channels like SBSK that show a great example on how to treat disabled people
@@thewiddler1746 I think this is in reference to Emily’s story around the 3:30 mark about the person who thought she shouldn’t be outside by herself and that person ignored her response that she was fine and just enjoying the outdoors and walked her back home.
It’s not mind blowing to other disabled ppl. They love to infantilize us.
And what do you mean by "function with the rest of the world"?
what a bubbly personality i feel anyone would want to be friends with Emily
I’m having a hard time finding Emily’s IG - where is it? I would love to talk to her😊

Most people don’t deserve Emily. She’s strong, intelligent and wonderful in heart. I’d be honored to be considered her friend.

Same. I’d like to text her. Loneliness is horrible. I hope she finds comfort from reading the supportive comments from around the world.
She’s a cutie, too. What a beautiful girl.
Find her and be her friend then.
@@lukeuseforce A very sad, passive-aggressive incel has entered the comment section.
Emily is spot on in so many points she brought up and she is eloquent and bright
Emily seems like a beautiful, articulate and interesting person. Not to mention strong willed and optimistic. I am sorry she feels lonely at times.
Those are some POWERFUL words 💪 I hope others see your message 💖
honestly this woman is so admirable with so much determination and incredible intelligence. Would be great if she wrote a book about her life experience.
I like this idea. Honestly, with a channel called Special Books by Special Kids, it would be great to have a whole series of biographies and autobiographies about select people Chris interviewed, another way of spreading awareness.
She literally melted my heart. Doesn't happen often. She seems like a genuinely great person
@shaani7978 I agree! I also feel like many people are not used to the saying "think before you speak" so they don't actually take in to consideration to break down the reply and try to answer what it's being asked. They don't listen to comprehend, they listen to just reply.
People’s attention span is so short these days, they just generally get bored and can’t concentrate on anything that’s not a stupid TikTok video

My childhood friend suffered from ALS. She used something like this. It’s actually nice to sit in silence while a friend forms their thoughts and sentences.
Emily is a beautiful, sweet, intelligent, well spoken young lady. I wish her all good things!
I could tell almost immediately that Emily is very articulate and intelligent, and her instagram really proves it! She writes like a poet, and it’s almost like you can feel her emotions through the screen.
Qual é o instagram dela?
This one really got me. Something about the sincere, unfiltered joy in getting to answer questions and reveal things about herself really made me cry. I could feel the relief and joy and excitement pouring out of her.
Wow the way she said “I think it’s humbling to have a disability and it makes me a better person because I see things in a different light.” She truly has an amazing character. So much love from inside
if emily started a blog or a channel based in text/subtitles about their experience, i would LOVE to follow that . their language is so eloquent, her voice so wise, her perspective unique. i want to hear the observations she's made watching the world.
she's so right about how fast paced our society has become. i've started telling my friends explicitly that i like sitting in silence, because even though i'm a huge extrovert and rambler, i've noticed we feel an obligation to fill the space. i can tell there's so much intention behind her words, i think many would love to hear her philosophies. i would love to sit in silence with you emily
She has one. The link is on her Instagram

This story broke my heart. Please through the power of the internet give this girl some real friends who empathize. Nobody deserves to go through life alone and honestly this girl has intelligence and more importantly a perspective that might teach you something or challenge how you think. Much love for this channel
Excellent video. Too bad Emmie doesn't have a youtube channel, she's obviously very thoughtful.
The entire point of her video is she wants in person relationships. Not a screen or one way communication
It could help. More people would be aware of her.
@@mel3256she said we could communicate on instagram though
I think that would be a great way for people to sit still and get to know her. She might even find some more local friends although I couldn’t deal with a TH-cam channels but if she thinks it would be fun she should go for it!
@@mel3256 is that why there's a link to interact with her on Instagram? There is a much broader world to be accessed with online tools. Even for able-bodied people, face to face interactions are dwindling. People don't have or don't make time for meetups anymore. Here in Atlanta, GA, with traffic and everyone living potentially 30-40 miles away, it's just too taxing with everything else going on in life.
Her written communication is impressive and clearly reflects an active and organized mind. I hope her future is full of joy and peace and fulfillment.
I would be delighted to be Emily’s friend.
She’s thoughtful, witty and seems incredibly genuine.

I really wish more people just embraced the world around them, that they just took a second and appreciated where they are and how they got there. I wish I could give you a big hug! You seem so kind.

Her struggle is so relatable even though we are worlds apart.
I can imagine the power and force of nature she is with adaptive equipment and correct support.
I love her smile. I love her laugh. And as a disabled person, I relate a lot to her. It’s hard to make friends…it’s easy to get left out because we are different.

0:29 gotta appreciate that you asked Emily whether to trim the time she takes to answer or leave it in the final video. Overall it's really great that people in your videos are, well, people and not a mere *subject of the interview. It sucks to see how others happen to infantilize disabled people. Your videos are a breath of fresh air. Keep up the awesome work.
Emily I'm so sorry someone decided you couldn't be alone so rude! The same happened to a classmate of mine it's so rude!!
You are very loved by all of us Emily. Many of us are also lonely. You will make lots of new friends for sure :)
I want to give her a hug so bad. Seeing her cry breaks my heart. She is such a lovely girl. I'm really glad she has a friend like Christine.

She seems like such a sweet and kind person and has definitely matured a lot by living with this kind of handicap. The amount of strength she has to have on a daily basis to still be able to smile like that must be tremendous. I have so much respect and admiration for Emily and I just wish for her to find a group of people who are kind and patient enough to listen what she has to say and give her a feeling of belonging.
What a lovely and super intelligent young lady! My wife has high functioning autism and was adopted from South Korea as well. Emily seems super chill and has a great personality 😊
This is definitely one of the best SBSK videos, and I’ve been a fan for years. Really makes you think. Emmie is so eloquent with her words. What a good reminder to slow down and pay attention. To not compare your life journey to another person. And how important it is to include everyone in conversation so they can be heard 🤍 Thank you so much Emmie and Chris

Great video. I think a big problem is when people think they know better than you just because you are disabled. They forget people with disabilities are still people with rights and feelings.
And there are MANY amazing people on the spectrum/ with disabilities that can achieve things independently too! They shouldn't be underestimated!
Yes; perhaps they should have sign on their wheelchair or a t-shirt saying: My mind is fine! It's my body that's disabled, not my mind!" Or something similar.
What about mentally disabled people? I disagree with this because many disabilities are both mind/body ex autism

Just watching Emily communicate, you can tell she is so intelligent. I also noticed once you realized that she was able to cognitively understand what you were saying that you just spoke to her as if she had no issues understanding. Emily, know that you’ve got at least one other person in your wheelhouse! I’m also disabled, and I hear you. All of us absolutely deserve to be listened to, appreciated, and respected. I wish you all good things, friend!
