I feel like he already know what to do in the case of that happening, especially because Heimdall is too cocky and a legitimate asshole and it's gonna come back to bite his ass somehow no matter how low the chances are. Odin already know the existence of Kratos and what he's capable of. Atreus made contact with Asgard and he already knows there's a good chance Kratos will be there too.
Odin didn't actually _care_ about Heimdall except as a tool, anyway (and the fact that anyone who could kill Heimdall was a threat to Odin). Putting Atreus through the wringer on the Heimdall issue was just a way to exert power over Atreus, and maybe to make sure he knew what Atreus's lying tells were.

Well there’s a lot of inconsistencies and contradictions in mythology, so it’s probably best to just go with what the game says when it comes to the cannon of the game. but the real reason no game or movie wants to acknowledge heimdall’s parentage is because they don’t want to deal with the fact that heimdall has 9 biological mothers, all of which are sisters. Also these games are ignoring most of the æsir family tree. I could give you some examples if you want
0:54 no look, Odin say Hemdall is his son when he says, "do you think my son is involved ? " This was only mentioned once in the game, but it confirms that the developers have kept their relationship (compared to the mythology)
Odin rarely calls his sons "son", Thor, Baldur, Tyr and Heimdall are all his children, but even Thor, his firstborn, strongest son and most accomplished, is just a "destroyer".
Me with the random NPC:you do know that 1. without Heimdall we can get attacked at any time and never see it coming 2. That the know who killed him has the horn witch summons a army and probably is one there way to kill us all now right
I mean if Thor knew about Heimdall hitting Thrud then I believe he would've killed Heimdall. He was wouldn't let Heimdall get away with attacking Atreus let alone attacking his own daughter.
1:21 i noticed that odin actually sounds quite skeptical like he knows atreus is lying. Until atreus gives a piece of knowledge that makes sense which could help to find the last piece
Odin merely sees his sons as pawns for him to use. I bet he's more angry at Heimdall for dying and giving away the Gjallarhorn to Kratos rather than Atreus who is still proving himself to be useful by translating the mask.
Because he does know Atreus is lying. He saw Kratos presenting Gjallarhorn and was present for the conversation about him killing Heimdall literally a few moments beforehand whilst posing as Tyr. To Odin Heimdall is just another asset, a pawn in his game.
Odin thinking to himself: “Yeah, you know what, this is something I can place on Thor. I mean, of course he wasn’t actually there but I can work him in there since this is his fault somehow”
Heimdall died because of his pride so basically he just killed himself when he refused to surrender during the fight. And he was son of Odin so this line is true. Son of Odin was responsible for death of Heimdall
Odin: apparently the beat down he received was so colossal that his soul was sent screaming into the formless aether between realms with no chance of returning
it feels more like Odin considering Thor being capable of taking an initiative to do something that would directly be detrimental to him is ridiculous, because he broke him into an unthinking tool.
Judging from the tone in Odin’s voice after he killed Thor, it seemed like he genuinely felt remorse for what he did. And when Atreus reminds Odin of what he did, Odin once again has a mournful, almost tearful tone of voice. However, seeing as Odin is a manipulative psychopath, it’s most likely that he didn’t feel bad for what he did. Odin might have genuinely loved Thor’s mom, Fyorgyn, but that was a long time ago. At this point, Odin is a cold-hearted bastard through and through.
@@KingGamerz293 I think he mentioned that GoW 2018 was much harder because they had to do everything from scratch since it's a soft reboot. He even said that the sequel wouldn't have the same problems given all the resources are already there. It didn't really make sense to cram it all in the sequel given that they can reuse assets from the previous game, just like past God of War games did.
Heimdall is not so easy to kill, really Odin could not get any more narrow with choices, he even probably knew already who was the behind Heimdall's death
Given what we know about Odin's antics after the game, he knew WHO was likely about to encounter Heimdall at the time, shortly before Heimdall ended up dying.
Bc if they wanted to show the entirety of a mythology they'd need at least like 6 games, even the greek god of war games didn't show all of greek mythology including major gods and there were 4 of those
I forgot Forsetti was originally a Baldurson. Man, that would have been a really interesting character to explore. Maybe we'll get to see him in the Egypt game.
I think Odin did actually care about Loki, it’s just he was blinded by too much power and didn’t care about anyone else at that moment. There truelly is some sympathy in Odin and that’s why I have sympathy for him
I mean at a core, he's mainly just portrayed as an abusive patriarch, ain't he? Some would say that's the basic impetus, the whole reason things happen, behind the Norse duology here. And, more subtly, I feel there's a tragically ironic desire here, where maybe his obsessive desire to find the mask was borne out of a desire to help his family (although much of it was presumably for his own selfish sake - comparable to Walt's motivations in Breaking Bad). It's a very human story, ultimately - like most abusers, he's not inhuman, he _does_ presumably have feelings and emotions, but expresses them in an awful manner. And perhaps, like a lot of abusers, there's some deeper reason he turned out the way he did.
You have to wonder, what kind of research Odin has been doing for literally thousands of years when Atreus can just walk in and do it in a couple days.
Likely foreshadowing since *spoiler* he had already seen Ghallarjhorn when Kratos announces to the group, and Odin disguised as Tyr, sees it. He's likely wanting to pretend he is still hiding the horn so atreus won't suspect he's watching them
At this point, Odin is so consumed by his quest to finish the mask and unlock its mysteries that he likely doesn't care-so long as he's one step ahead, it won't matter. The only thing that matters to him now is finding the answers he's been chasing. Doing so, in his mind, justifies anything and everything-even Groa's prophecy of Ragnarok coming to pass.
Odin: Heimdall is dead. Happen to know something about that? Anything? Atreus: Maybe Thor..? Odin: So you’re saying my son did it? Atreus: Probably. Odin: Okay. Glad you’re back. Down to business. Also Odin. Odin: I don’t care much for Brok. But if he dies then we are square for Heimdall, and you’ve got a bargain.
So many complaints. Just because they didn’t get to introduce this, or put this Norse figure in the game doesn’t mean it’s rushed. Thank about this game and what more could they have put in a third game

@@alexmac851 I respect your opinion. Don’t really get it but respect it. There’s still some questions that weren’t answered. But we’re obviously getting a Loki spin off
@@cameronperkins4227 I can tell its incredibly rushed based on these arguments. 1. Notice how the first 2/3 of the game, the pacing tho, maybe all over the place, still tries to go in detail, and make sure all important events that are vital to the story being told are being shown to us. Ironwood, making draupnir, going to Asgard etc. Notice the final act of the game instead and what occurs off screen and just how much new INCREDIBLY important plotpoints go by very quickly. In the timespan of about 2 hours, mind you this was the length of the Ironwoods mission. We -have Brok die, Tyr revealed as Odin, recruit 2 realms to fight against Asgard, find and initally have surtr deny helping us to only immediately change his mind and then becomes ragnarok about 20-30 minutes later. We have the invasion of Asgard, the event the entire game has pretty much been hyping, where we walk through a linear path for 20 minutes killing the same enemies, have a complete change of heart that we are no longer doing this for revenge but actually for justice, realise that we don't actually need ragnarok, walk for a few minutes, have jormangadr sent back to the past, and within 20 minutes, we fight and kill both Odin and Thor(where the entire fight occurs in Odins front yard and basement with pretty much 0 destruction going by). Notice the problem? Before it was X-Y plot points that took quite a while, but this time, some of the most important, and more specifically hyped up event in the game, ends in under an hour. Again, they were more than willing to make me go through 2 hours of that dogshit ironwoods mission, but they were unwilling to make the main event of the game longer than a side mission.
Two things. 1: What would have been the Consequences if the boy told the truth to Odin? I mean Odin knows Kratos is not on their side and is already trying to win Atreus over so I’m sure Odin would have played it cool despite what had happened. 2. Atreus is a bad lier. When it comes to news like this he always panics and or gets over excited, he is never calm unless he is trying Sympathize with someone but for the most part he has a hard time containing his emotions. Him being overly calm during an Interrogation like this is definitely outta character.
Odin: “Are you suggesting my son had something to do with this?” Atreus: “Well, there’s only a handful of people in all the realms that could kill Heimdall. 2 of them are here in Asgard. One has a motive since Heindall decided to punch your granddaughter. All evidence points to Thor, doesn’t it?”
I have always wondered what Odin was going to do if Atreus cracked. He needed Atreus to finish the mask, so antagonizing him wouldn't work in Odin's favor.
I would love more Atreus/Loki dialogue With Odin and Thor some questions like: What happened to others Aesir and Vanir Gods and why they are not in Asgard or Vanahaim and if they exist and some of them are others children of Odin and Freya + Odin's Friends and Enemies And why are they missing and what happened to them like: Hermod,Fulla,Gefjunn,Saga,Hlin,Kvasir,Vidar,Uller,Hodr,Var,Vali,Forseti,Nanna,Bragi,Hoenir,Skadi,Ran Freya and Freyr's Mother,Aegir,Njord Freya and freyr's father,Idrunn/Iduna,Sigyn Loki's wife,Meili,Simara surtur's wife,Hoed a valkyrie etc.. among others gods that are missing.. The others questions would be interesting for odin: If asgard has a prison? What happened to Thor's mother since the original Norse Mythology the son killed his own mother And if Odin had others wives.. If Odin and Thor have pets as in Norse Mythology original Freya had several others animals,Thor her goats and Odin have a horse 8 paws who is one of Loki's children Where is Valhalla or Sessrumnir and is there a way to get there or did a god go there... Others questions: What is the true origin of how Odin lost his eye in Mimir's well or the portal If Baldur,Magni and Modi among others death Gods can come back to life and why haven't they come back yet? If Odin has a room Inside the hall like the others rooms and it would be a funny line for Atreus/Loki to say that he thought Asgard was different, much bigger and made of gold like Odin's palace Questions for Thor with his family trying to make happy him and if Thor met Atreus mother or what it was like for him to fight Against Kratos and what he thought of the fight A curiosity here: Thor in Norse Mythology has gloves and a utility belt that makes him much stronger. Heimdall being the son of 9 mothers like in the original Norse Mythology it would be nice for Odin to mention that And also Freya has 5 priestesses like Athena with her allies who prayed to her in Greek Mythology. Freya's Priestesses They are: Sjofn,Vjofn,Lofn,Syn and Snotra I missed those questions and dialogues for Odin that Atreus And also for Thor was going to make a shame it didn't happen,Too bad he didn't ask these questions 🥲😔 like and Bye!
People in these comments are dense as fuck, when Odin says ‘I knew you had nothing to do with it’ that is sarcasm. He knows Loki is involved but the goal of the mask still takes priority
I don't think the devs even know enough about Norse mythology to know that fact. They also forgot Vidar exists, and they never mention that Heimdall is Odin's son, nor does Odin ever refer to Heimdall that way whereas he constantly does with Thor. They literally just know Thor because of the MCU most likely, and didn't bother to look into his other sons. Complete hacks.
@@TheStraightestWhitest I wouldn’t say so. Maybe they decided to change it in the game, or maybe they thought there’s no real point to explicitly stating that Heimdall is a son of Odin’s. Besides, Sinmara is a character so incredibly vague in the mythos that even a professional like Jackson Crawford literally had to go looking her up in a book of his, so they clearly did their homework. And that’s just mentioning the Sinmara tidbit. Mjölnir reviving goats, Freya’s alternative name Vanadis, and even Odin’s shape shifting can be used as evidence that they clearly knew what they were doing. I mean I’m a bit of a Norse geek and I didn’t know the Vanadis thing, so I’d give them some credit at least
@@notblabby They also dubbed Magni & Modi, who were each individually stronger than their father, ''Minor Aesir'', they forgot that Tyr was also a son of Odin, and they forgot about Forsetti, Baldur's son, even after having mentioned him, meaning Freya apparently doesn't give a fuck about her grandson also. This was plain shit writing. Not just mythologically inaccurate as there was no Kratos and no black people in Norse mythology either, but also just bad writing within the game itself. And that's not even speculation. They had three games planned after all, two for Ragnarok. It was rushed as hell, and it was extremely noticeable.
@@TheStraightestWhitest Tbf, Tyr being Odin son’s isn’t exactly canon. Other sources say that he’s the son of a giant, but yes everything else doesn’t make sense lol I still like the game, but it misses the mark on authenticity so hard that it’s almost jarring. But then again, it’s a video game loosely based on Norse mythology, not a full on retelling of the Poetic Edda
Man Atreus was the worst liar in the world. Odin saw right through this little shit from the start, I don't know what Atreus was thinking. Honestly he's only lucky Odin was after the secret of the mask more than war with Kratos, or else his "galaxy brained" decision to keep close to Odin would have turned he and his father into Swiss Cheese. @Jesús Octavio Salgado Pelayo It's because he said "be better" to him. That makes it okay. Because as we both know Atreus is on equal terms with Kratos in every way. Kratos deserved to be guilty of trying to protect his only son by preparing for a very likely conflict with the Aesir. Let's forget this guy raised Atreus for his entire life and treated him well, he should "be better". Not his son tho, he has an equal qualification to him.
A bit weird that non of the Aesir characters ever point out about the issue with Garm has been solved during this point. I expected Odin to congratulate him or something and that is what drives him to accept Atreus back to continue doing the project.
What's up with this comment section? I've gone through tons of comments on the game and I've never seen this much hate. Really odd. Why this scene? The game and story deserve great praise. Thrid Norse game wasn't nessisary. The final battle is the only thing that has any pacing problems.
It's a great game, don't get me wrong but there are some parts that aren't good. Like Heimdall, his death should be alarming yet they all don't really seem to care much. A god of foresight who has NEVER been touched before has suddenly been done in by someone and killed but they're all calm. Another thing,we never saw the person who was looking into Heimdall's death. Forgetti or whatever their name was. They're baldur's kin so you'd think there would be a scene or battle about the dude getting his get back against Atreus/kratos for killing his dad.
Yeah, forseti being baldrs son makes him freyas grandson. Is she really such a hypocrite for hating kratos for killing baldr, while at the same time not even caring about forseti, she doesnt even care to know if he survived ragnarok, not even tried to reach out to him before bringing death to his door?
@@igotnopatience1717 tbf she might not have known baldur even had a son since baldur probably never told her or was too busy trying to kill her instead of talking and she spent her entire life being the witch of the woods in midgard while forseti was out and about in other realms.

Why is it that every Ragnarok video's comment section is filled to the brim with salt 💀 There are valid criticisms of this game. The fact that you don't kill every god is not one of them. Odin: Yes we are young man!
Heimdall in this game was a right prick, and i think kratos let him off easy. I wish he'd ripped off all of Heimdall's limbs and sent him back to Odin alive, but in tremendous pain.
Odin: "Do you know anything about Heimdall's death?" Atreus: "Yeah, my Dad killed him." Odin: "Wow.... That's.... Huh... I'm surprised you told me that." Atreus: "My Dad beat a guy who called himself, "untouchable." Of course I'm gonna flex with that."
Showing the world destroyed after each god death is simply a story wise craft to show you that the vengeance of kratos is selfish. They simply cut it in ragnarok cause that would make kratos( in the eyes of some people bad). Baldur is the only exception, but it’s because Cory Barlog dropped the original project( 3 Norse saga games) so everything is rushed in the end and story changed a lot from the original druft. If you really think that kratos death was not gonna happen you’re delusional, they even put the hint of time travel and bringing people to life again. If you think that some part of the story of ragnarok are good or well written go back to 2018 game, and you will see a lot of retcon.

Its rushed

@@cameronperkins4227 Kratos > Loki

I have always wondered what Odin was going to do if Atreus cracked. He needed Atreus to finish the mask, so antagonizing him wouldn't work in Odin's favor.
I would love more Atreus/Loki dialogue With Odin and Thor some questions like:
What happened to others Aesir and Vanir Gods and why they are not in Asgard or Vanahaim and if they exist and some of them are others children of Odin and Freya + Odin's Friends and Enemies And why are they missing and what happened to them like:
Hermod,Fulla,Gefjunn,Saga,Hlin,Kvasir,Vidar,Uller,Hodr,Var,Vali,Forseti,Nanna,Bragi,Hoenir,Skadi,Ran Freya and Freyr's Mother,Aegir,Njord Freya and freyr's father,Idrunn/Iduna,Sigyn Loki's wife,Meili,Simara surtur's wife,Hoed a valkyrie etc.. among others gods that are missing..
The others questions would be interesting for odin:
If asgard has a prison?
What happened to Thor's mother since the original Norse Mythology the son killed his own mother
And if Odin had others wives..
If Odin and Thor have pets as in Norse Mythology original Freya had several others animals,Thor her goats and Odin have a horse 8 paws who is one of Loki's children
Where is Valhalla or Sessrumnir and is there a way to get there or did a god go there...
Others questions: What is the true origin of how Odin lost his eye in Mimir's well or the portal
If Baldur,Magni and Modi among others death Gods can come back to life and why haven't they come back yet?
If Odin has a room Inside the hall like the others rooms and it would be a funny line for Atreus/Loki to say that he thought Asgard was different, much bigger and made of gold like Odin's palace
Questions for Thor with his family trying to make happy him and if Thor met Atreus mother or what it was like for him to fight Against Kratos and what he thought of the fight
A curiosity here:
Thor in Norse Mythology has gloves and a utility belt that makes him much stronger.
Heimdall being the son of 9 mothers like in the original Norse Mythology it would be nice for Odin to mention that And also Freya has 5 priestesses like Athena with her allies who prayed to her in Greek Mythology.
Freya's Priestesses They are: Sjofn,Vjofn,Lofn,Syn and Snotra
I missed those questions and dialogues for Odin that Atreus And also for Thor was going to make a shame it didn't happen,Too bad he didn't ask these questions 🥲😔 like and Bye!
People in these comments are dense as fuck, when Odin says ‘I knew you had nothing to do with it’ that is sarcasm. He knows Loki is involved but the goal of the mask still takes priority
I love how as soon as he finds out Atreus has more info he stops “caring” about Heimdall
Thrud attacking like a skyrim npc with dual swords
It’s so crazy how Odin is kinda nonchalant about Heimdalls death considering Heimdall is his son
Odin dont care about Heimdall
