If you're wondering why bit of the floors don't join up in Cornwallis (so you have to keep going up and down), it's because a corner of the building collapsed into an old railway tunnel a few years after it opened.

Umass Amherst has a similar dumbwaiter. yeah that H & C lift looks great. Cornwallis building looks interesting though. carpeted walls are interesting. The library lift was modernised in 1996 while I was studying there. Before that, both lifts in the original part of the library had manually operated gates. I studied there for 3 years and never really used the lifts - Rutherford, Darwin and Eliot didn't actually have any.
