Would love that

What’s always been interesting is that Pickerings seemingly specialised in designing and building strange and unconventional lifts for strange and unconventional buildings that needed them! :)
00:00 this is the best video intro I've ever heard
the irony is the modern VF will never outlive the old relay logic it replaces....sure VF can do any speed but relays go "thud-chunk-thud" :)
12:46 “cunt elevator service” made me laugh
Those main library lift indicators are actually also Kone Novel Elements LED dot matrix indicators. You can tell because of the font for -1; the 1 has a very distinctive font that sets it apart from NewLift. The double arrow isn't unique to NewLift, either; this indicator also supports it.
Personally I don't see which part of this is exceptionally bad compared to the rest of the UK.. oh well! I assume you're mainly disappointed about the Otis replacements.
There's still an Otis 2000 in Gunwharf Quays, tucked away near the restaurant area, and rarely used. I got some great SFX recordings from that, and I'm sure it would have been ideal to film. No CCTV either. You missed a gold mine there!
I guess the problem is that I have travelled so much around the world, it just makes most towns and cities in the UK seem dull by comparison.
I hope this doesn't offend people from Portsmouth but here is my explanation of why I was not impressed by Portsmouth....
The UK really lacks interesting places. In fact it is quicker to give a list of places that are not crap than places that are. The places that are not crap are... London, Birmingham, Manchester (Deansgate only), Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Reading, Brighton, Eastbound, Cardiff, Bristol, IOW, southend. All other UK towns and cities are lacking in my opinion. While this may sound harsh, with the amount I have travelled around the world, it makes bog standard British places seem very underwhelming.
The problem with Portsmouth is how bad it is for its size. If I was to say what the most crap town in the UK without regards to size, then it would be some boring little town where nothing happens (e.g. Sittingbourne). But what I don't like about Portsmouth is for how big it is, there is very little of interest there. Has to be one of the most dull places of its size. The other place that is very dull for its size is Manchester which is surprisingly empty of interest for a big city, but at least Manchester has the Deansgate towers which are nice.
As for the tucked away Otis lift, I went in it, but I didn't film it. The shopping center just felt very small scale to me. It is just that I am used to big spectacular places such as South Quay (London), Dubai, Benidorm, Hong Kong, Warsaw, Poznan, Paris, Brussels, Sofia etc. These places have put in effort into them. But even places that are not so well developed can be interesting such as Katowice which is very spread out and is mainly countryside, but has a huge extensive tram network. The UK never invests in making amazing places. And in Portsmouth they tried to invest in something for the city, the Spinnaker tower, but it is just pathetic. If Portsmouth was in China it would have lots of high rise apartments with interesting lifts. If Portsmouth was in Poland, the city would have at least 6 tram lines going through it. If Portsmouth was in Germany it would have a smaller tram system in the center that connects onto the mainline in a TramTrain system taking people from nearby areas straight into the city streets without changing. But in the UK Portsmouth is under developed with nothing of interest to it.
@@benolifts Great to see Nottingham on that list. I can also recommend Worcester.
Portsmouth was useful for me when visiting the Island Tube for the class 483s. In February 2020 when I was planning a trip to Spain I went to Portsmouth to visit the Brittany Ferries shipping office to book passage to Bilbao, a ticket not sold on their website. They were no help, attempting to book using the website, which returned "crossing full" 50 days in advance, because the way it's set up is that rather than simply not selling it, they just input to the booking engine that the number of tickets it's allowed to sell for this route is 0.
On a later trip, I ended up stranded in a suburb of Caen at 11pm because they weren't taking foot passengers on the route from there, despite this not being clear on their website (again, they just set the number of tickets available to 0 in the booking engine's code because they're lazy).
this channel is nothing without your speedy squeaky voice... keep it up !
How dare you diss my hometown -_-
I'm Saudi and I'm offended.
If only the old Tricorn Centre was still there, then there would be something to see in Portsmouth
7:34 that got me
You slammed your ✋ on the security camera on the elevator
13:31 Oh, now I'm interested in your collection.
It amazes me with how cheap these areas are and how there can be such elevators/lifts that are such extremely cheap pieces of dog-shit tin cans that are just absolutely disgraceful.
Other than the crap lifts, don’t get the hate for Portsmouth in this video. Went in Portsmouth last year, one of my favourite cities I’ve been to in the UK, I’d move there tomorrow
the watching the casino lift : "AAA!"
Kleemann elevators are really good if serviced by good technician
In your dreams they might be
@@benolifts All but relays is good in Kleemann (2017+ year). Compared to KONE or OTIS elevators they are simple and armoured xD
Aren't the relays those cheap tiny ones that are soldered onto the board, so when one fails the entire board gets replaced.
@@benolifts That's the 'Serviced by good technician' part... Engineer would change whole logic board and drive because of relay failure ;)
And yes- Those small Finder ones- Mostly orange series (At least in Poland)
Yea I really hate Kleemen
I don’t mind kleemen lifts I like the voice in their lifts
5:44 These also remind me of that video you did over 11 years ago at that olympic area somewhere in london or whatever where they had the temporary mcdonnalds and acer structure because those were kind of like kits where they could put them up quick with no digging required and then they take them down easy well those fell into a similar side to these where they didnt install anything good because aparentlly that was too much to ask for in a temporary structure
Exept the only difference is these are not temporary theyre perminent ones with the acception of probably gonna get modded a bunch of times
And infact these are probably so cheap they probably make evil owls garbage seem somewhat better
4:58 you might say that type is nice, but in Australia where its literally everywhere, its really not.
How come Otis no longer make Otis 2000’s?
Otis 2000 got succeeded by Otis Gen2
To be honest, the Pickerings story is slightly similar to A.B.'s story in Romania. They made lifts in the 60's. They weren't as good as IFMAs of that time, but they were a competitor. (which is quite cool considering that this was in the communist times) they manufactured their own single-speed lifts (IFMAs were two-speed and had floor indicators), until they just... dissapeared? They weren't gone, and aren't dead even to this day, but they haven't made an in-house developed lift since the early 00's. They mostly modernize now, with cheap, generic panels. Some panels are even modelled after the 60's IFMA panels! It's definately an interesting company. Really need to know more about A.B., but it being a communist romanian elevator manufacturer that dissapeared in the 70's and sort of came back ~20 years ago, there really isn't much info.
Also, A.B. stands for Ascensorul București. They also re-branded to just "Ascensorul", although you might also find it called "Ascensorul RomService" or just "RomService".
When bashing through Portsmouth, one has to make note of which station to change at for the best mileage. Go too far, & you might cost yourself an hour.
Is this your normal voice or adapted on a app
Love your videos especially the rants
Sound like somebody screaming in the Elevator shaft
best video title of all time
100m is still high since I've never really been to a city before.
100 meters is not high for me. Also, anything less than 130 meters usually has an MRL lift nowadays. So for me, modern buildings only get interesting when they are over 130 meters.
Looks like the evil owl has taken over there. Lots of generics and companies that just throw the parts together and install them. I miss the old ones that have the relay logic, which are getting harder to find as time passes on.
You had me at the intro 0:03 😂😂
Spinnaker tower does have a nice cafe on the first floor. Although it is a mess as you have to use the lift for the upper floors as it’s the one lift there. The outside lift,I believe was maspero the same company as the millennium bridge when it had those significant problems. I believe it’s been removed as part of improvements to that area. The pedestrian tunnel in Newcastle, they’ve never got working so far. Although checked later this year.
10:53 that bus is advertising my favorite movie series harry potter thats probably the only cool part of that bus though the rest of it is probably ofcourse nothing special just to spread the crappy butter on the bread lol
It is the s [_] hole you're right
Good Video Beno
There’s some pickerings at Huntingdon station on the ECML
Aren't those lift the standard generic design of station lift
yup
Portsmouth is nice imo. If anything Southampton is somewhere I don't like
I’m slowly losing interest In lifts, in Northern Ireland we had a great lift brand but Kone bought them in 2001 and killed them off. Now all the good, interesting and extremely reliable lifts installed by the old brand are slowly being replaced with shitty Raloes or modded into some cheap shit by Thyssenkrupp.
I am also loosing interest in lifts slowly. In the past I would go to a typical crap town center and would search every shop and building in the hope of finding an old lift. 5 hours of searching would usually end up with finding 3 relay controlled lifts and 5 other interesting lifts. But nowadays I lost the inspiration to even look. Nowadays often 5 hours of searching will lead to 0 relay controlled lifts and 1 other interesting lift. Also I just find towns in the UK boring. I am used to visiting interesting places abroad, and also visiting tall skyscrapers. The crappy little shopping centers and town centers just feel rubbish to me now. As for modern lifts, most of them are crap generics, or base model MRLs. Even brands I like such as Kone, their bottom of the range lifts feel dull, such as the NMX07. With modern lifts I only find big powerful goods lifts or high speed lifts of interest. But even them I only find Mitsubishi, Kone and Schindler interesting, and I have seen all of these many times. There is little left for me to now enjoy in terms of lifts. I often get people asking me to film the lifts in the crappy little town that they live in, and I feel awkward, as I know that 10 years ago I would have found this interesting, but I don't anymore.
Same thing happened to Daka lifts, they used to make absolutely epic lifta back in the 1970's but now they turned into a company that only installs generic parts
i've never been so glad to live in southampton and not portsmouth.
Over the Portsmouth schedule for 50 years
If I’m correct the Otis 2000 is still a proper traction lift not an MRL?
Otis 2000 is a traction lift with 2:1 cabling with a motor room.
Otis don't install Otis 2000 lifts anymore. For the last 10 years there has been a trend of moving everything to MRL (even in situations where an MRL is not appropriate). High rise lifts are the only lifts installed today that are not MRL.
As someone from the North I think Portsmouth is really decent, better than Southampton by a mile.
Okay so thank you for BENO awful tearing all the story
KLEEMANN THAT COMPANY COULD BE ASHAMED OF SELF
Yeah I find Portsmouth bit boring but still it’s a nice place. Gosport ain’t got much where my Nanna used to live and Gosport is deprived except for some parts of Gosport that is quite nice.
what did the pickerings lift use to be?
That Scotts voice sounds very similar to the old drucegrove voice.
It sounds similar
I think the doors screamy the elevator doors screaming not you it's not you it's so funny f_____ funny watch this elevator door The scream f_____ hilarious
Who Actually Manufactures The Scotts Voice Boards?
Did the Tesco Chatham lifts have the scots voice also?
They had Digital lift controls voice before the Otis mod
Was ist deine meinung zur Schweiz was aufzüge und Infrastruktur angeht?
I thought that whilst I was traveling through life, I had come across all and sundry in the world of lifts, but no.
Those Otis direction arrows (07:40) on the door frame are a nice touch, even if they are overkill when you consider the ones on each floor level.
Only go to Portsmouth if your going to gunwarf quays
50 years this is bulshit [_] for elevators wow just [_] well 50 years that's a long time oh my gosh that's a long time we praise him this the elevator lift
Yeah you have to serve Elevator see what's wrong with it Sophia's whole elevator is crappy hole maybe. Company could be shame
Do you like Marryat Scott’s
Yep especially old Woolworths ones
@@LadySophieofHougunManor7325 how do you know about them in Woolworths , I’m intrigued steve.
@@1961kickboxer I think my old Woolworths had one they had 2 goods lifts but if it was the one I’m thinking it was a marryat Scott that was removed Leaving only one goods lift in B&M Long Eaton towns old Woolworths but going back further I remember when Nottingham co op had attendant operated relay controlled lifts I’ve always been fascinated by them
Yeah they won't last for 10 years correct elevator won't last for 10 f______ YEARS WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ELEVATOR WON'T LAST
About Kleenman lifts , my work got on of them, and yes keeps breaking down
Nope they do not want to do that they want to become a crappy ass installer
I just got back from there it is decent with the dock other than that it’s pretty thuggish
That f______ indicator don't work yes that flow indicator don't work
That is a KONE display for sure.
My college has lots of kleeman lifts

😮 The Fun Fair in Portsmouth [Southsea] (Clarence Pier) is a nice place to go and has some high thriller rides + roller coasters, I sailed Saint Malo from Portsmouth via Brittany Ferries via Portsmouth International Port.
It is abandoned elevator
I presume you were just passing through.
portsmouth is good
I like it buses are nice city is amazing
You're from Southampton, what the hell are you saying!??? Isn't it illegal to like us?
Shutup
The town might be rubbish but the football team is ok
Yeah the f_______ number won't
But the food is good
I do agree about Casino's, theres no need for them, all it is is just people spending lots of money only to end up throwing it away.
Okay listen yeah because their company suck or the builder own list on purpose
Ports mouth, ye not going there lol
Yeah could be yes it is that's discussing
What's a predoor? 🤔
Short for Pre-opening doors. The inner and outer door safety circuits have a pre-door bypass relay (actually 3 relays for redundancy) that allow the lift to move with the doors open. The following must be true for pre-doors to enable...
1. The logic must chose to pre-door during levelling when arriving at a floor (or for relevelling once stopped)
2. The speed of the lift must be below a certain speed
3. The 2 shaft bars (or magnet switches) must be activated to activate the 3 pre-door safety bypass relays
4. (optional) The logic must not have detected the fault state that the pre-door relays have become stuck or bridged
This setup is the standard of allowing a lift to move with the doors open using both software and using physical relay interlocks. Both the software and the relays can not activate pre-doors alone, they must both independently allow it for it to happen.
@@benolifts Thank you Beno you're very clever! 😁
At least you got to surf a couple.
I love how you covered that camera. 😁

And all the tower block lifts there have Lester Controls :///
Yeah k is going in the car park elevators gone
Hey Beno I remember your 465 brush motors vids
F___ up penguins elevator company
Lester generics I hate
DieHard Building
13:52 If Drusgrove V1 had a sibling
Same thing is happening in Southampton with the otis 2000. The otis 2000s are getting modernised with kone KCE logic in the shopping centre car park. 1 is in service but it behaves like a Lester lift and most of it is still original. With Portsmouth's otis 2000s, their all becoming ecodiscs which are better than just a mod. Also in Southampton the kone office series are being modernised by generic with Lester control its a peice of crap really.
Hey generic company
I didnt think you could swear this much in a video
