Yeah, those are great tips. Another one is to keep the (patchy) beard at stubble length (2-3mm) for a longer period of time, up until the point where the slow growing hairs have made their way out. Then let it grow out and set your clippers to +1mm every time you're trimming your beard, until you have reached your desired length. Patience is key, still.
Your absolutely right about letting your beard grow out before convincing yourself you have a patchy beard. A friend of mine always wanted a full big beard but would get discouraged with the patchiness that he would shave it off. But then someone told him to just let it grow and now he has one of sickest beards I've seen around.
I know this is a few years old but thank you. I do have a patchy beard (early, about a month and a half of growth) but I love it. For the first time in my adult life I’m able to grow my hair without someone telling me to shave. I can’t wait to see what it looks like at 4 months. Wow, my beard looks exactly like the first picture before he started growing it out, I always cut it during that awkward phase because it just doesn't look good. After seeing the after picture I'm fully committed to growing it out!
Hey sorry guys I'm just seeing these responses now, I like the way my beard is looking right now it's definitely worth it. One thing I do is trim the hairs near my jawline every once in a while because it grows faster and thicker than the cheek hairs. After a few trims around the jaw area the cheek hairs started catching up and it's now looking more evened out/denser overall.
I understand this is 8 years old but it doesn't matter. This has given me the courage to try and see what kind of beard I can grow if I just have some patience.
I swear, this video speaks to my freaking soul. Thanks for saying what we've all been saying to that guy who can grow a luscious beard but talks it down when the scruff is barely growing on the home front. Subbed.
Beardbrand Actually, I've been looking at quite a few of your tips and cautionary videos, and I've found them to be quite helpful. I had a few good solid inches growing off of my face a few months back, but when I went from my "Jesus hair and beard combo" to a cleaner look (time for a change, kind of thing), I've found it difficult to manage a shorter style in the facial hair department. I'm growing it back out now, but my oldest brother brother got the beard genes out of the three of us. Now, I'm rubbing beard balm into it and brushing it daily to help.
I have been growing my beard for 5 years, since I was 19. Every year it got better and better, despite me not using beard products (didn't itch me at all). Yes, it wasn't thick and full when I started, so I simply kept it short. Now I have a kickass chin warmer ;). It's more than a goatee, but less than a full beard, because I'd always shave the sideburns (now starting to grow them out), so the hair just follows the jawline. But it feels badass, especially since I don't tame the hedge as some bearded brothers do. The hair is wavy, sometimes curly, but hey, it looks THICK. Besides, I work outside a lot, and facial hair can be quite useful in below freezing temperatures. Inuit men would grow mustaches to help prevent frostbite around the mouth. A rugged beard looks AWESOME if you've been out skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking when it snows. All that snow collects in the hedge and gives you an epic frosty beard :D. Finally, for those who are lamenting about their beard, or get beard envy a lot, hear this: There are hundreds of thousands of guys out there with less facial hair, many of whom either don't have optimal genetics, or they just have peach-fuzz because they're still young. You can bet that they will want facial hair half as good as yours. So grow what you've got, be patient, and most importantly, TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR BEARD :^{D
I'm letting my beard grow, it's been 5 weeks already and it looks patchy; tho not as much but it makes me feel uncomfortable sometimes. Every time I feel like hesitating, I watch this video and it gives me courage, thank you Eric!
@@blinkyourdead9963 Nah, I didn't really start to grow it. I am not sure if i can grow a beard. I shave it mostly after a month, because it really looks unhygienic.Do you happen to know when to give up to let it grow, if it doesn't grow well?
I watched this video back in August last year. Since then I've been trying to grow a beard. I always thought I had a extremely patchy beard (Johnny Depp-ish so to speak). Ever since I committed to growing a beard it came in a lot fuller, I won't even consider myself a patchy beard guy anymore. It's still not as thick as I want it to be, but I'm only 22, so I know it will come in thicker with the years. I'm almost 19 and I started to let my beard grow for about 2 and a half weeks now. My chin and my sides are very strong growing and my moustache is also coming out good. And normally, my side beard and my chin beard are not connected. But only after 2 1/2 weeks of growing, one side is already connected. Just wear it out. It will take some time, but it works.
My beard is 2 weeks old today and I am quite happy with the progress. Only thing letting it down is its not as dense at the sides. Someone did comment on it and it's made me a bit more self conscious of it. Video has given me the confidence that I should stick with it and hopefully the sides will fill in a bit more. Thanks.
I thought my beard was patchy but it just grows slow. It takes me about 4 to 5 months to grow a decent beard. Then I just let it grow and don't trim it and it just transforms into this nice beard. I'm 66 years old now and my beard is all gray but I'm gonna let it grow and then trim it into this nice Santa Claus Beard. It should be the proper length before Christmas this year. Its strange but after my beard grows out it seems like it grows faster.
What do you think about lightly trimming it as more follicles grow in? When I try to grow my beard my hairs get long but not very full. Do you think it's okay to trim a few times so it will look good while waiting for it to get more full? Or just let it all come in at once...
My cousin is blessed by the beard gods. He went to a high school that was very strict. No stubble allowed on the boys and at 15 years old he had to shave twice a day.

Excellent and helpful. Thank you. I am 3 weeks in for the first time in my 43 years and yes its patchy at the sides, but I'm loving this adventure and will definitely stick with it!
@@imdevil9851 In parts still, and the parts I knew would remain patchy, but I love it, people say they couldn't imagine me without a beard now and it is definitely staying!
I've tried letting my facial air grow in, and I experience a problem I see in quite a few Asian (or more specifically, Half-Asian) people like me. Each hair grows quite far apart. It's not the usual type of patching, where there are areas that are denser than others, but it is a uniform lack of density. I've tried growing it out for ~2 months, and the spaces didn't even start to fill in. I tried trimming it to keep it neat while not touching the follicles that may have needed more time to grow in, but that did not work either. What are your suggestions for either fixing or masking this problem. I may be over exaggerating, my expectations may be too high, I honestly do not know.
So I always thought I couldn't grow a beard because I do have a patchy beard only mine looks better than the guy's on the picture at that length.. watching your video gave me some hope. I broke a leg and have been hospitalized for a while and I haven't been shaving cuz I can't really stand for too long and it's been growing. So I'm excited now that I watched your video c'se I'm really going to give it a try.
Sometimes our genetics just give us a shitty hand. You could always rock a goatee! On the other hand, just give it some time to grow in. Cheeks are usually the last thin to fill in completely. Keep on growing! -Josh
I've bin growing since November last year so unfortunately time is not the answer and i have no neck hair so if i go with a goatee it will be thinner then it already is so im just out of luck
That statement in the end is so true. I have seen so many guys with a super thick stubble, I'm sure they would have an awesome beard if they let it grow, but they just shave it off cuz they don't want it....
Took a patchy well-groomed beard on three interviews. Got all three and had to choose one. I think it's about proper grooming. Owning it is also important. Can't go around looking like a hobo.
Yup, others rarely see the faults with your beard - simply the awesomeness of it. It's important to focus on what we got rather that what we don't got.
Decided to let my “beard” grow out and two months in still doesn’t look the best but in areas I thought I couldn’t grow hair I noticed hair finally growing in slowly and lighter than the rest but it’s all slowly connecting now and filling in the patchy spots. slowly but surely.
I have a full on patchy beard and what has helped is just letting it grow out of control. That means no trimming or anything if you can. I now get a bit of a 5 o'clock shadow now. But I'm growing it again and now about the same length I had it last time.
That one guy that grows a beard without any patches is my dad! He once kept his beard and moustache for Movember, and it was literally a Homer Simpson beard! It's a shame that guys like my dad don't keep their beards! I'm growing my beard now though, I've got a couple spots under my chin where it's patchy, but that's about it really!
I need one of those. Been wanting to grow one since I was 17,I am now 20 and still no luck. Sure it's way better than it was back then but it's still so damn patchy

You don’t look French. You’re a North African
My cousin is blessed by the beard gods. He went to a high school that was very strict. No stubble allowed on the boys and at 15 years old he had to shave twice a day.
i cry in shower with my few hair beard...
I was about to give up and shave but then I saw this! Now I’m gonna give it another 2 months
4:36 Haha, that was great
I am 12 years old , having a mustache and starting to grow a beard! That is ONE CRAZY BADASS BEARD u got there let me tell u that! idek why i watched this video but it was entertaining and fun to watch! just subbed!

Are women liking all this mania for facial hair?
Excellent and helpful. Thank you. I am 3 weeks in for the first time in my 43 years and yes its patchy at the sides, but I'm loving this adventure and will definitely stick with it!
Now you have patchy beard or not
@@imdevil9851 In parts still, and the parts I knew would remain patchy, but I love it, people say they couldn't imagine me without a beard now and it is definitely staying!
@@andyt8216 bro i have patchy beards how I get rid to it
When I read the title from the side of my eye, I swore it said "Patriarchy Beard Guide".
We need to embrace our manly assets in time for the annual general meeting of the patriarchy.
I've been growing my beard for atleast 5 years, and my beard is insignificant. It's surprising wen I see people's progress in just 3 months
Go to Turkey..get a beard transplant..
Wow, this was a life-changing video!!! Now I can live the rest of my life in joy and happiness.
Haha awesome! Like Enoch from Beardfellows says, "You won't know until you grow. So grow, you know!"
+Adam Hemingway Can't say it much better than that!
+Adam Hemingway Enoch, what an awesome name
Scott Allen biblical name
So I always thought I couldn't grow a beard because I do have a patchy beard only mine looks better than the guy's on the picture at that length.. watching your video gave me some hope. I broke a leg and have been hospitalized for a while and I haven't been shaving cuz I can't really stand for too long and it's been growing. So I'm excited now that I watched your video c'se I'm really going to give it a try.
I heard the title "Apache Beard" I thought it was a video about a new Jeep SUV or somesuch
+ResistanceQuest We're working on a video about helicopter pilots who have patchy beards. It's called "A Patchy Apache Beard."
-Zach
I am that guy 1-100 I have no patchs! very blessed
Love the emotion at the end! *golf clap*
i now have the inspiration to try this 30 year old patchfest out im going to give it 6 months. thank you
+Michael Choate Heck yeah, that's what we like to hear! Beard on, brother!
-Zach
+Beardbrand that's what we like to Hair*
Saviel Delacruz Haha well played, sir!
-Zach
Ya hate how i can't grow hair on my cheeks jawline no problem around my mouth no problem but my cheeks im out of luck and it pississ me off
Sometimes our genetics just give us a shitty hand.
New beard grower here. So glad I found this channel, definitely subbed.
Happy to help out! Let me know if you need any help along the way.
"That guy in that pineapple movie" i'm laughing too hard
BEST BEARD TIP VIDEO ON TH-cam !!! GREAT JOB THANKS MAN!!
+HERMN Woo! Thanks brother!

4:36 "Puk you dude, Puk you!"
my teacher have a patchy beard and he's really confidence, and my teacher is really cool
Liked before I even watched
Liked before I replied!
That statement in the end is so true. I have seen so many guys with a super thick stubble, I'm sure they would have an awesome beard if they let it grow, but they just shave it off cuz they don't want it....
fuck.. i've grown a Beard for a couple of weeks now, it's patchy as hell. I wouldn't care very much if i didn't have a job interview tomorrow -_-
HIGH ARNOLD how did it go
did you get the job
HIGH ARNOLD tell us!!!!!
Took a patchy well-groomed beard on three interviews. Got all three and had to choose one.
I think it's about proper grooming. Owning it is also important. Can't go around looking like a hobo.
That's my problem, I'll get about a month or so in and have to shave off what little bit has grown in for something,
Don't know how many times I've watched this video but I still love it.
His voice gets lower throughout the video
This is the motivation i have waiting big beard , lets go
I didn't notice the spots by his mouth being patchy until he said something. Lol
Yup, others rarely see the faults with your beard - simply the awesomeness of it. It's important to focus on what we got rather that what we don't got.
Hmm. Now to start thinking about my dick that way too. 😂😂😂 average dicks ftw
@@Beardbrand i didn't see it until you said it and now its all i can focus on
Actually that patchy is goos
@@Beardbrand 👍👍 such a great review. Confidence is coming back to our lives..beard on
Decided to let my “beard” grow out and two months in still doesn’t look the best but in areas I thought I couldn’t grow hair I noticed hair finally growing in slowly and lighter than the rest but it’s all slowly connecting now and filling in the patchy spots. slowly but surely.
"Kermit The Beard" 😂😂😂
Im fucking dead! 😂😭😂
@beardbrand you guys are helping me more then you'll ever know, keep up the awesome work gentleman !
Haha. He said taper your expectations instead of temper. It's a beard pun. Lol
I've watched this video many times through these 3 years. I think I like it 😂
Dude same hair color same beard color same hair style whats up brother?
+Agon Dresha wait, hipsters all have the same look? no way!
Hahahaha irony level is too high here.
I have a full on patchy beard and what has helped is just letting it grow out of control.
That means no trimming or anything if you can. I now get a bit of a 5 o'clock shadow now.
But I'm growing it again and now about the same length I had it last time.
haha love your candid and real talk.
Beard psychologist :-)
I need one of those. Been wanting to grow one since I was 17,I am now 20 and still no luck. Sure it's way better than it was back then but it's still so damn patchy
this one guy does not shave it off because he doesnt want it. also solid vid i felt it was genuine advice.
oh man ..awesome video but ..you sound like kermit the frog .. no offense haha :D
+TheFighterheart You gotta get your ears checked bro. I sound like Ray Romano. twitter.com/bandholz/status/667533481094680578
+Beardbrand okay just a hint of Kermit!
+Beardbrand yeah I went straight to Ice Age when I turned this video on. Thanks for the tips, I'm one of those patchy bearded guys. Rocking the scruff!
“A patchy beard may or may not be a patchy beard if you give it time to grow”
I have a patchy beard and this is motivating. I’m only 5 days into growth and never would have thought that perhaps I can’t see what it will look like because I can’t see it. Duh.. Kind of ironic!
This year 2016 I'm starting!
a little late starting, but me too!
+Alex Greene yep I'm a little late too but I started last week
+Alex Greene I'm just now starting also. i wanted to wait after graduation! lol
How has it been going so far m8?
Good luck!
The guy i work with has the beard of Zeus. He has no patches whatsoever, and it's as black as the night. It looks wicked!
i was expecting a deep voice before he talked haha
I used to be "that guy" but would walk around with a beard, anyway. I love them. I've let mines grow for months a few times. I never liked the way my beard looked. I'm going to let it grow for 3 to 4 months to see what happens. Thanks for the video.
+dverners Very nice! Let us know how your progress is going, and beard on!
-Zach
Yessir! Thank you and beard on!
"F you, dude. F you. As always (smiles), thanks for watching!" Amen, brother!
