I would make sure that you treat the metal before leaving it outside. Especially if you intend to leave it there for a long time since it might rust all the way through in places
As a 46 year woodworker who now does woodworking to supplement my retirement, this is exactly the kind of item I have been looking for to add to my wood medium. A wooden vase of these? Sell instantly. Incredibly well done, and I like yours over numerous others I have seen online. Thanks, and excellent work! Keep it up!
Glad you like it. I wanted to make the video as this rose does not require special blacksmithing equipment like many others I have seen. Go ahead and make a bunch of them. Hope they will make someone happy!
FinnCrafted: I made a couple of these today. Few things...I really think the texturing of the petal edges with the edge hammer makes the difference between yours and others. I copied your edging, and it came out great. These little details often make the difference between an average effort, and one that is really outstanding. That simple hammering of the petals with an edged hammer took this from an average metal rose to a hand-hammered beautiful rose, and I appreciate your efforts. At first I thought you had the bottom rose flower casing the other way around. I reversed mine so the raw edges, any remaining, would be down. Then I re-viewed your video and saw you do the same thing. Good deal! Finally, I had a problem with the pieces in general staying put on the stem, (they tried to spin), or in this case, the metal rod. I could not get the pieces to hold tight to the bottom of the ground section. I made it work by simply hammering the top of the stem so it was enlarged, then putting on all the pieces from the bottom of the stem. Then holding them fast to the enlarged top, I welded the bottom piece to the rod, which bled through a couple of layers, but made them all tight and ready for forming. Different, but it worked. Again, thank you for this video...I am always looking for things to enhance my own skills, and this was one great idea and I can execute it without too much difficulty. Thanks again!!
Thanks for a long comment! Happy that you had good success with your roses. Hammering the petals does make a big difference, especially the edges. I could not get them to stay put either, so I just let them spin freely and call it an "organic design". Real roses also have what is called a receptacle below the petals, so putting some welds there can actually make it look more realistic.
First time making one after watching this was a success, wish I could post a picture of it . I clear coated the shit out of it. It gave it a nice shine and bonded the loose pedals together. Thanks for the upload!!!!
What are the diameters of the circles? It shows that the first one is 40mm but they appear to be different sizes. The measurements for all the circles would be extremely helpful.
I'm learning how to use my everlast on my own. I'm pretty good at mig welding (my assessment) and want to start learning how to tig weld. I want to give making roses a try soon.
crazy watching someone do this.... learned how to do this in highschool for shop but noone took it to this level, using the same tips and all my teacher taught me
I would try and maybe do the rivet a different way. Perhaps grab a piece of flat steel, make a hole in the center bigger than the radius of your rod, and put it on top of the sheets (while they're on the rod like 5:19) and find a way to also clamp it to the rod itself so as to squeeze the sheets against it. Then hammer on the rod sticking out, and squish it down to the oversized hole you'd have on that peace of flat bar. You'd have a nice and solid rivet clamping down the sheets hard (possibly even welded if you heat up the sheets during the process). I'm really backseating hard right now because unfortunately I don't have the tools to attempt even making that rose in the first place, but the whole thing rattling around as you were grinding gave me anxiety. Also maybe grind it before sticking it on the rose. Amazing video!
thanks for the video I made one after watching and it turned out very nice. Is there a way to dip them in something other than oil to stop rust, or to color them
what kind of torch is that that gives you the nice precise and long blue flame? just bought a bernzomatic mapp gas torch kit and the flame is huge, blue but no small inner cone
I like it. I have some thoughts if you want them? On a real rose, there is a bulb below the flower petals which, if you introduced it to the stem before adding the petals and over-turning the end into the centre, would give the centre something to press against. Then the head would feel more secure. Of course you could probably just throw a weld under there too, I'm clearly not a smith but a gardener ;)
Thanks. Yes i think i saw Mark Aspery forge the receptacle bulb into the stem in his video. I just decided i would leave it out. The movement in the petals actually gives the rose a somewhat "organic" feel.
Nice job with building this rose. You just make me happy with this and i have a great plan how to make these roses work like a sort of romantic light with L.E.D light in it ;)
very cool and great job. how do you remove the rust? i would think an electrolysis bath would do the trick, or do you simply hammer away the majority and the torch takes care of the rest?
Torch burns off some of the rust. Wire wheel on the angle grinder takes care of the rest. The rose got a coat of spray lacquer after the video was made.
The video was OK the only problem I had with it was that the speed is too slow. If people only double the speed he would then make sure we were unable to catch up in the smallest bit of detail on how to actually do this
Thank you for this, I just finished mine. It's going to look good on my moms grave. So again, thank you.💞💖💝💖💞

That’s really nice of you to do that. I hope that it brings you some form of closure or relief. You sound like a good kid.

@Jordon what sheet metal did you use?
0.5 ?
That's really good craftsmanship. Great rose, good idea great video 👍
Forging roses is pretty fun, I like that very much and have forged 7 roses already :)
Wow! What a fantastic craftsman. Thank you so much for taking your time to make these videos and share your craft with us.
Thank you for your kind words!

I love your work my man. Your multi-talented methods, and your creativity. Big fan!!
very nice! I made something very very similar using almost exactly the same technique, but yours turned out a LOT better

A powerplasma would make this process much more pleasurable. Thanks for sharing your fine work.
That's beautiful.

That's like one of the most romantic things ever
Very nice... much easier than how I've been doing them!!!!
Of course, you're the artist. It is indeed a unique point 😀

You did a Great Job!
yeah, great work as always!
Could you use a brazing tourch to work the pedals?
Awesome video, such talent.
Thats awesome, great work!
Great job! Well done!
Great work!
Very nice work. Keep it up
Awesome work, bravo.
I made one of these in my level 1 welding and metal fabrication class but not as good as this
I've seen a few of these videos because I want to make one but this is great and weld free
Well done, very talented.
Great job! Just found your channel, you do some nice work.
The nicest metal rose that I have seen so far.Any chance you could help with diameters of the circles you cut.
Bigger circle diameter was about 8 cm and the smaller 6 cm if i remember correctly. Thanks for watching!
@@FinnCrafted aren't there three sizes? Or are there just two of the 8cm and two of the 6?
What I'm trying is 80 60 and 40 cm. I'm still in the real early stages of it so maybe a 20cm too
EDIT: ok nvm fam its 2 80cm and 2 60cm

Love it when you just do it and don't talk the video to death. What kind of price for a steel rose?

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!
Appreciate your comment. Thanks!
Why this isn't gone viral by now?
it looks so easy to do in your video but i'm sure it is really complicated to make it look great in real life haha
The one i made in this video is actually only the second one for me. Was not as hard as i thought.
very cool man good job
Invest in a nice powerplasma cutter. You will never regret it. Cutting metal will be as easy as drawing.
Nice work!
Looks great, but you should have tightened that rivet up!
Very Nice, Thanks for sharing.
I want a torch for christmas so cool !! 😍
Very, very nice indeed!
It looks like the circles you cut out for the pedals are varying diameters. First one looks like 40cm. What are the others?
sheer awesomeness. Thanks for sharing that
The noises were quite satisfying...
very cool and great job. how do you remove the rust? i would think an electrolysis bath would do the trick, or do you simply hammer away the majority and the torch takes care of the rest?
Torch burns off some of the rust. Wire wheel on the angle grinder takes care of the rest. The rose got a coat of spray lacquer after the video was made.
FinnCrafted it looked so clean that i thought you'd let it set in an electrolysis bath and removed all the rust that way. good job.
awesome work sir....

Hey @FinnCrafted - what were the diameters of the other circles? First one is R40, therefore D=80mm?
And the rest please? :)Thanks!
