- A ZX Spectrum - but not as you know it.
This video is about the Hermit Retro Spectrum ZX Zero Board kit. The board is more than just a breakout board for the Raspberry Pi. The kit includes a secondary SD card slot, full sized HDMI output, additional USB, I2C port (i2c.info) and joystick support. The board is a custom design but will fit into original or reproduction ZX Spectrum cases and ZX Spectrum Plus cases.
You can purchase a kit from: www.hermitretro.com/zxzero.html
However at the time of publication the Kit with a RaspberryPi is out of stock (due to the world wide chip/Raspberry Pi shortage). I purchased the kit without the Pi as I had a few spares at home.
The Spectrum is powered by the Free Unix Spectrum Emulator (FUSE)
For more info about either Hermit or Fuse please take a look at the documentation online.
* This video is not sponsored by Hermit Retro - but thanks Alastair for the great kit! *
** Please excuse the rain noise - the joys of having a loft based TH-cam channel! **
** Yes I had a couple of other sound/dubbing issues **
*** At least it's only costing you time to view it!! ***

Lol
Interesting, I wasn't aware of this kit until now!
I made my own version of a Pi-based speccy emulator with a load of add-ons. There are videos of it on my channel for anyone that is interested.
Sounds good, I'll take a look - always great to see other options
0:29 Where did you buy the case from? Where can we buy a case like that?
You can get it from ZX-Renew - (a UK based website). There's a few others such as Retroleum & Sintech who do parts and other things.
How is the keyboard connected to the module?
It uses the standard Sinclair connections (you can see them on the video at around 05:15)
@@stevesretroloft thanks! Don’t know how I missed it!
No worries. If you're interested in the device it might be worth keeping an eye on the hermit retro website as the creator is working on a Raspberry Pi Pico version of the board due to lack of the standard Raspberry Pi Zero.
yeah that sounds interesting. I have a couple of zeros and a few picos! I had bought a replica case and keyboard to make a spectrum emulator using a pi 3A+ but am still waiting for a keyboard interface board to be produced by another TH-camr (The Retro Shack). He has done a few videos on it!
flux! :)
Old solder from about 20 years ago!
